Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa Thank You. Sr. Cecelia Sweeney has written to thank you for your generosity to the appeal last week which amounted to €1040.35. Pope Francis – Croke Park: Each parish will be allocated 10 tickets for distribution to attend the Festival of Families in Croke Park with Pope Francis on Saturday evening 25 August. Some of these tickets should be allocated to a family. These must be allocated by 31 July. The fairest way to allocate the tickets might be by inviting families or individuals to be included in a draw. If you would like a chance to receive tickets, please give your name and number of tickets required to a member of the Pastoral Council or to Fr. Phair before Wednesday 25th July, and a draw will then take place to allocate the tickets. Youth 2000 Summer Festival, Cistercian College, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary from Thursday 16th – Sunday 19th August 2018. For young people aged 16-35, an opportunity not to be missed to experience the Catholic faith and meet many new people, with over 1000 young people from all corners of Ireland attending last year. The festival is donation only. Free buses travelling from all around Ireland. For more info and to book online, see www.youth2000.ie The Irish Cancer Society offers a free local transport service for patients undergoing chemotherapy and attending one of the following hospitals for treatment - Our Lady of Lourdes, Drogheda, Cavan General and the Mater hospitals. A driver will pick you up at the door of your home, drop you off at the hospital and then, when finished treatment, will collect you and drop you home. This is a free service and patients may bring a companion with them for support.     THE LIST of CHURCH OF IRELAND PARISH REGISTERS A Colour-coded Resource Accounting For What Survives; Where It Is; & With Additional Information of Copies, Transcripts and Online Indexes SEPTEMBER 2021 The List of Parish Registers The List of Church of Ireland Parish Registers was originally compiled in-house for the Public Record Office of Ireland (PROI), now the National Archives of Ireland (NAI), by Miss Margaret Griffith (1911-2001) Deputy Keeper of the PROI during the 1950s. Griffith’s original list (which was titled the Table of Parochial Records and Copies) was based on inventories returned by the parochial officers about the year 1875/6, and thereafter corrected in the light of subsequent events - most particularly the tragic destruction of the PROI in 1922 when over 500 collections were destroyed. A table showing the position before 1922 had been published in July 1891 as an appendix to the 23rd Report of the Deputy Keeper of the Public Records Office of Ireland. In the light of the 1922 fire, the list changed dramatically – the large numbers of collections underlined indicated that they had been destroyed by fire in 1922. The List has been updated regularly since 1984, when PROI agreed that the RCB Library should be the place of deposit for Church of Ireland registers. Under the tenure of Dr Raymond Refaussé, the Church’s first professional archivist, the work of gathering in registers and other local records from local custody was carried out in earnest and today the RCB Library’s parish collections number 1,114. The Library is also responsible for the care of registers that remain in local custody, although until they are transferred it is difficult to ascertain exactly what dates are covered.

    Private Sources at the National Archives Small Private Accessions 1972–1997 999/1–999/850 1 The attached finding-aid lists all those small collections received from private and institutional donors between the years 1972 and 1997. The accessioned records are of a miscellaneous nature covering testamentary collections, National School records, estate collections, private correspondence and much more. The accessioned records may range from one single item to a collection of many tens of documents. All are worthy of interest. The prefix 999 ceased to be used in 1997 and all accessions – whether large or small – are now given the relevant annual prefix. It is hoped that all users of this finding-aid will find something of interest in it. Cavan Kevin White This thesis is a study of the landscape of Magh Slecht, Co. Cavan. This area contains over 30 prehistoric monuments in an area measuring 5km by 5km, something unseen in the rest of Co. Cavan. The area was the legendary centre of worship of the chief pre-Christian deity of Crom Cruach until St. Patrick and Christianity arrived in the 5th Century. It is the author’s belief that Magh Slecht is an unidentified minor “Royal” site. Through analysis of Medieval literary sources and a study of the monuments of the area it is hoped by the author that this will be proved. A geophysical survey was carried out at the hilltop enclosure site of Derryragh, the hypothesised focal point of Magh Slecht and location of Crom Cruach’s idols. The geophysical survey disproved the theory that Derryragh is the location of Crom Cruach’s idol. The author firmly believes the aniconic stone, the Killycluggin Stone might have been perceived as Crom Cruach’s idol. The geophysical survey did produce evidence of a palisaded enclosure with a funnel entrance, a feature that is present at many of the major “Royal sites”.
