4 5 MASTER‘S PROGRAMME LIGHTING DESIGN 2 CRITERIA FOR YOUR DECISION he professional part time Master programme “Architectual Lighting and Design Ma- nagement” at Wismar University is a unique combination of the study fields “Architec- tural Lighting” and ”Design Management”. The curriculum is modular and focused on integration into the individual’s professional life. The central capability of a lighting designer, regardless of dealing with daylight or artificial light, is to design the interactions between architecture and light. The aim of the ”Architectu- ral Lighting” modules is to encourage the students to investigate architectural, physical and psychological aspects of lighting by using creative and autonomous methods. This is to be done while keeping human well-being as well as the standards of sustainable architecture in mind. The focus of the ”Design Management“ modules is teaching the students how to set up working groups in the field of Architectural Lighting Design. They will understand office or- ganization and how to improve project performance as well as the strategic management ap- proach. By using market analysis tools students can develop marketing and business plans. The ”Design Management“ modules also incorporate the concept of design as part of the customer’s value chain. The participants are provided not only with technological and design expertise but also experience the customer oriented view of professional practice. Our graduates will under- stand how to successfully develop lighting design concepts incorporating design, ecology and advanced technology. They are able to adapt these concepts to the diverse global mar- kets and also understand the interrelation of design, project management in relation to the customer’s needs. Our lecturers are professors and lighting designers from various universities and research institutes as well as from well known lighting design offices. They are specialists in the field of ”Architectural Lighting“ and “Design Management“, which ensures a high academic quality of the programme. The degree acquired is an internationally accredited Master of Arts (M.A.) degree. The part time programme started in 2012 but it developed based on the experience collected in the full time programme in “Lighting Design“at the Wismar University, which has existed for more than 15 years. In 2013, one year after the initial start of the programme, it was awar- ded the PLD-R award (Professional Lighting Design Recognition) in the category of education.
