CSP ABU DHABI TERMINAL FACTSHEET CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal in numbers • Annual designed capacity: 2.6 million TEUs • Current handling capacity: 1.6million TEUs • Draft depth: 16 metres (allowing it to accommodate mega-vessels typically carrying in excess of 14,000 TEUs) • Quay wall and yard length: 1,200 metres (by 2020) • Size of Container Freight Station (largest in the Middle East): 275,000 square metres • Today Abu Dhabi becomes a gateway for China’s global maritime network through the inauguration of the CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal at Khalifa Port. • The new terminal is the result of a 35-year concession agreement between Abu Dhabi Ports and COSCO SHIPPING Ports Ltd (CSP) • CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal will connect Abu Dhabi to CSP’s global terminal portfolio covering 282 berths at 36 ports worldwide, of which 192 were containers berths with a total annual capacity of approximately 104 million TEUs. • CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal is the first overseas green field subsidiary of CSP. It will have an annual designed capacity of 2.6 million TEUs • CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal has the largest container freight station in the Middle East. • Total CAPEX spent in CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal by CSP was approximately AED 1.1 billion (USD 300 million) Capex in Khalifa Port • Abu Dhabi Ports plans to expand the current capacity at Khalifa Port from 5 million TEU (total capacity of Khalifa Port terminal 1 and CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal) to 9.1 million TEUs over the next five years. The agreement gives CSP a concession to provide container operation services at Khalifa Port Container Terminal 2 • 5 November 2017 - CSP breaks ground in Khalifa Port, to signal the start of construction and welcome the arrival of the largest COSCO vessel at Khalifa Port. CSP also signs an agreement to develop the largest container freight station in the region • April 2019 – Trial operations scheduled to begin at CSP Abu Dhabi Container Terminal COSCO SHIPPING Ports Ltd. • CSP is a leading port operator in the world. It is the only terminal platform under China COSCO Shipping Corporation Limited, the world’s largest integrated shipping enterprise. • CSP’s terminal portfolio covers the five main port regions in Mainland China, Southeast Asia, Europe, the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. • As at 30 September 2018, CSP operated and managed 282 berths at 36 ports worldwide, of which 192 were for containers, with a combined annual handling capacity of 104 million TEU. • The annual designed capacity of CSP China’s portfolio totals 81.2 million TEUs Abu Dhabi Ports • Abu Dhabi Ports is an enabler of maritime trade and logistics, providing world-class services and infrastructure that allow firms from across the world to grow their businesses. • The company is the operator and manager of Abu Dhabi’s commercial and community ports, in addition to the Fujairah Terminals and the Port of Kamsar in Guinea. • Its subsidiaries also include trade and logistics hub Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD), the largest free zone in the Middle East. • Abu Dhabi Ports is helping to transform the Emirate’s maritime infrastructure, playing a pivotal role in building Abu Dhabi’s sustainable, value added and knowledge-based economy. • The firm contributed AED 19.6 Billion to Abu Dhabi’s GDP, equivalent to 3.6% of the Emirate’s non-oil GDP. Page 2 CSP ABU DHABI TERMINAL FACTSHEET Khalifa Port • Khalifa Port is Abu Dhabi’s flagship, deep water port, inaugurated on 12.12.2012 by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE. • It was the first semi-automated container port in the GCC, with an 8km-long breakwater – the longest in the Middle East. • The port serves 25 shipping lines with direct links to more than 70 international destinations, and handles general cargo, container, break-bulk, and RoRo. • In May 2018, Abu Dhabi Ports signed a 30-year concession agreement with MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, the world›s second-largest shipping line in terms of container vessel capacity, to develop the container terminal in the UAE located at Khalifa Port. • Khalifa Port Container Terminal 1 is operated by ADT. KIZAD • KIZAD is the largest free zone in the Middle East - a hub for manufacturing, trade and logistics, strategically located adjacent to Khalifa Port, between Abu Dhabi and Dubai. • It offers businesses access to markets through sea, air, road and future rail; connecting them to more than 4.5 billion consumers. • Within KIZAD sits the Khalifa Port Free Trade Zone (KPTZ), which offers free zone and non-free zone solutions for land leasing. • Since July 2017, a total of 19 companies have signed agreements for land in the Jiangsu demonstration zone in the free zone of Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD), with investments totalling $1.1 billion. • This places KIZAD and KPFTZ in a prime position to welcome businesses operating along the China’s Belt and Road initiative.
