Shortstop is often regarded as the most dynamic defensive position in baseball because more balls go to the Shortstop than any other position. A MESSAGE FROM THE We would like to welcome you to the 2016 West Ranch Baseball spring season! The boys have been working to try and continue the winning ways of Wildcat Baseball. Last year West Ranch fi nished as the Foothill League fourth place team and missed the playoffs for the fi rst time in six years. The Cats had a successful run in the Easton Sports Tournament to start the season. The varsity squad beat El Camino Real at USC in the annual game at Dedeaux Field. The spring break tournament was another great experience as the Cats participated in the prestigious National Classic in Orange County beating host school El Dorado. The Wildcats return several players who bring varsity experience with them. Right hander Jack Cunningham who last year committed to San Jose State, will help anchor a talented pitching staff. Junior all- league and Cal State Fullerton commit Timmy Josten will give the staff a solid one-two punch from each side of the mound. Senior all-league returners Jason Drees and Blake Baumgartner will power a potent offense. The team will need others to contribute. The Cats will look for senior arms Christy Frierson, Sam Gray, Devin Judge, Michael Rosati, and Simon Pilato to add depth to the pitching staff. Underclassmen Dom Eberle will also see innings on the mound. On offense, seniors Doug Gragg and Daniel Luevano will add some power. Junior fi elders Garren Bui, Austin Hernandez, Alex Lee, and Nico Valdez will see the fi eld. Talented Sophomores Will Chambers and Christos Stefanos will be looked upon to help move the Wildcats back to the top of the league in 2016. The team has put in the time and hard work to be successful this season. So sit back and enjoy our 9th varsity season here at The Ranch. A’s News Clips, Wednesday, May 11, 2011 Oakland A's, Brett Anderson lose 7-2 to Texas Rangers By Joe Stiglich, Oakland Tribune ARLINGTON, Texas -- Brett Anderson's night was a washout even before the rain hit Tuesday night. The A's left-hander has impressed this season, but the sight of a Texas Ranger digging into the batter's box brings out his worst. Anderson was gone after 42/3 innings, and a 59-minute rain delay in the sixth inning did nothing to halt an A's 7-2 defeat before 31,655 fans at Rangers Ballpark. "Yeah, the Rangers aren't my favorite team to face, that's for sure," Anderson said. "We don't play them again until like, July, so I've got a couple months to get away from them a little bit." In two starts against Texas this season, Anderson in 92/3 innings has allowed 15 hits, 11 earned runs, four homers and eight walks. In six starts against every one else, he's allowed 38 hits, eight earned runs, four walks and zero homers. Call him the anti-Cahill. A night earlier, teammate Trevor Cahill continued his mastery of the Rangers, ringing up his eighth victory in 11 starts. So what gives with Anderson? "For some reason, the Rangers kinda have my number right now," he said. "Maybe if I could turn into a right-handed sinker guy like Trevor, next time will be better." A's second baseman Mark Ellis said: "(He's) got to face them a lot in our division.

  • SF Giants Press Clips Monday, May 7, 2018
SF Giants Press Clips Monday, May 7, 2018 San Francisco Chronicle Giants complete sweep of Atlanta in Andrew Suarez’s first big-league win Henry Schulman ATLANTA — The Giants’ charge over the past five series can be dissected a dozen different ways, from their stable of older hitters starting to progress toward their career numbers, to the excellent pitching, to younger players such as Mac Williamson, Alen Hanson and Andrew Suarez arriving from the minors and infusing life into the team. Or, just let Pablo Sandoval distill it in three words. “We’re having fun,” Sandoval said after the Giants survived a ninth-inning scare and beat Atlanta 4-3 Sunday to complete their first series sweep of 2018 against a team that came into the weekend with the swagger befitting a 19-11 team. The Giants finished their fifth consecutive series win and forged their first four-game win streak of the season. They have won seven of their past eight, and 12 of 16, with their two top starting pitchers, closer and second baseman out of the picture. The Giants outscored the Braves 24-9 as several hitters who began the year slowly, contributing to the team’s 7-11 start, got healthier at run-friendly SunTrust Park. Andrew McCutchen went 5-for-10 with three walks, a hit batsman and a sacrifice fly. Brandon Crawford was 8-for-14 after entering the series 20-for-98 for the season. Hanson was 6-for-14 with three doubles, a homer and two hand-first slides into the plate for runs that put a charge into the dugout.
