Romanticism and Sentiment: Géricault and Delacroix

Lecture summary: This lecture considers the important role of sensation in French Romanticism. The presentation will focus on close examination of key works by Théodore Géricault (1791-1824) and Eugène Delacroix (1798-1863). I will examine many of their most important paintings and seek to stress how they engaged with ideas of movement, human emotion, colour and artistic expression.
