Marquetry on Drawer-Model Marionette Duo-Art
Marquetry on Drawer-Model Marionette Duo-Art This piano began life as a brown Recordo. The sound board was re-engineered, as the original ribs tapered so soon that the bass bridges pushed through. The strings were the wrong weight, and were re-scaled using computer technology. Six more wound-strings were added, and the weights of the steel strings were changed. A 14-inch Duo-Art pump, a fan-expression system, and an expression-valve-size Duo-Art stack with a soft-pedal compensation lift were all built for it. The Marquetry on the side of the piano was inspired by the pictures on the Arto-Roll boxes. The fallboard was inspired by a picture on the Rhythmodic roll box. A new bench was built, modeled after the bench originally available, but veneered to go with the rest of the piano. The Fender Custom Shop and “Blackie” Your Questions Answered…
The Fender Custom Shop and “Blackie” Your questions answered… A few days before the launch of the Fender Eric Clapton “Blackie” Reissue, Mike Eldred – Director of Sales and Marketing for the Fender Custom Shop, was interviewed by Guitar Center for his personal account of the “Blackie” Reissue project. GC: So Mike, what’s your role at Fender, and in the Custom Shop specifically? Mike: I’m Director of Sales and Marketing for the FMIC Custom Division, and that encompasses all brands: Tacoma, Guild, Gretsch, Fender, Charvel, Jackson, and the amplifiers. GC: What is it about “Blackie” that makes it so special, even within that special world? Mike: It’s an iconic Stratocaster. The story about the guitar is really such a great story about how Eric bought the guitar--bought several guitars--and then pieced together basically just one guitar from a bunch of different parts. So he actually built the guitar, which is very unique when it comes to iconic guitars like this. A lot of times they’re just bought at a store or something like that. But here, an artist actually built the guitar, and then used it on so many different recordings, and it was so identified with Eric Clapton and his musical legacy. GC: Then, after 35 years of ownership, he offered it up for sale. What did Fender think when they heard that Guitar Center had bought Blackie at auction for almost a million dollars? Mike: Just that we were glad that it was sold to someone we have a relationship with. The concern that we had was that somebody was going to buy it and then just lock it away and that would be that, or some private collector would buy it or something like that. -
Sparkle King Standard
It’s not enough for your instrument to look and sound great, it has to hold up. It has to be able to take the abuse of a 40 show tour and have the same quality of sound at the last show, as it did on your first. www.kingdoublebass.com It’s an old maxim: If you want it done right, do it yourself. SPECIALIZING IN BUILDING CUSTOM UPRIGHT BASSES “When I was touring with an upright bass, I could not keep it together and when I got it to stay together I could not get it loud enough to be heard over the rest of the band. So I decided to make my own,” says Jason Burns of the modest beginnings of what has become one of the hottest companies specializing in building custom upright basses. While touring over the years, Burns developed and refined the product line, which has catapulted his company to the top of the industry. “I gathered input from players like Lee Rocker and Jimbo Wallace, they have been playing on the road and in studios long enough to have a really good idea of what needs to go into the design and crafting of professional quality instruments.” It’s not enough for your instrument to look and sound great, it has to hold up. OCTOBER 29, 2019 Link to article: https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/8541086/the-stray-cats- lee-rocker-pays-homage-to-his-influences-on-dog-house The Stray Cats' Lee Rocker Pays Homage to His Influences on 'Dog House Shuffle': Premiere 10/29/2019 by Gary Graff Alex Solka Lee Rocker The Stray Cats' Lee Rocker gets all about the upright bass on "Dog House Shuffle," a one-off solo single whose video, premiering exclusively below, pays tribute to the instrument Rocker helped propel into the MTV lexicon during the early '80s. "It's a tribute in a lot of ways," Rocker (nee Leon Drucker) tells Billboard. "It's a song I wrote over the last couple of months. I was thinking about my career with 40 years of Stray Cats and all of that and thinking about the upright bass, which is what started this thing. It takes me back to the opening line of the song -- which is "Took me 'round the world and I changed my name/found a little fortune, found a little fame/Doin' the dog house shuffle" -- which is right out of my story. Dog House is what they call the upright bass, so it's a tribute to the bass itself and a lot of the players that I came up listening to." Some of those players -- including Elvis Presley's Bill Black, Willie Dixon, Fred Maddox, the Tennessee Three's Marshall Grant, Carl Perkins' brother Clayton and Al Rex of Bill Haley & His Comets -- are featured in the "Dog House Shuffle" video, along with cartoon animations and studio footage of Rocker and his band recording the track. -
