Death penalty to go: Mnangagwa The death penalty will soon be removed from the country’s statutes as the Government takes into account the views Zimbabweans expressed in the new Constitution concerning the law’s relevance in safeguarding fundamental human rights. Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday said it was the Government’s vision and the general feeling of the people that the death penalty should be abolished. African Sun sued A consortium of local architects, surveyors and engineers has taken African Sun Zimbabwe (Private) Limited to court over outstanding consultancy fees to the tune of US$16 million for construction projects in Equatorial Guinea. The firms included Manyara Design Architects, Promec Consulting Engineers, Exclusive Consultants, Mthupha Practice Architects and Marsden Consultants Africa who collectively constitute the Corisco Design Team. Air Zim adjusts fares Air Zimbabwe has adjusted its fares by up to $40 after the airline’s comeback promotion lapsed last month as the festive season approaches. The airline yesterday announced the new fares which would see a return ticket for the Harare/Bulawayo flight increasing to $150 from the promotional $105. The traditionally viable Harare/Johannesburg route, which during the promotion cost $275, will now cost $310 while the Harare/Victoria Falls return ticket now costs $220 from $180. (Newsday )

Cabinet extends import- Cabinet has extended a waiver on the tourism industry to import duty-free capital goods as the new government duty waiver pins hope on the sector to stimulate economic growth, Tourism minister Walter Mzembi has said. The State, according to the minister, has also approved the setting-up of a tourism revival fund. (Newsday )

Zanu PF dissolves Jomic The ZANU PF politburo, has unanimously agreed to dissolve the Joint Monitoring and Implementation Committee (Jomic) following the end of the four-year inclusive government. the resolution was reached after robust debate between senior Zanu PF officials as Labour minister Nicholas Goche and Finance minister Patrick Chinamasa’s idea to transform Jomic into a new Zimbabwe Political Parties Dialogue (ZPPD) was shot down by Information minister Jonathan Moyo. Shell Nigeria selling 4 delta oil Shell Nigeria is putting up for sale four onshore Delta oil blocks with a combined production of around blocks 70,000 barrels per day (bpd), two industry sources said on Thursday, the latest move by an oil major to divest assets from the area. (Reuters )

Liberian Ex-Leader Taylor to Serve Former Liberian President Charles Taylor is to be transferred to a U.K. prison to serve his 50-year sentence for 50-Year Prison Term in U.K. crimes against humanity in Sierra Leone’s civil war in the 1990s. U.K. Justice Minister Jeremy Wright said in a written statement to Parliament in London on Thursday that following a request from the court, Taylor will now be moved to a prison in Britain. South Africa to Take 20% Free South Africa’s government plans to take a 20% free stake in all new oil and gas ventures and reserve the right to Stake in New Oil Projects buy a further 30% at market-related rates, Mineral Resources Susan Shabangu said.
