The developing skills in health and social care (DSHSC) project, provides fully funded qualifications to staff working in the adult health and social care sector across and .

The project is led by Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils, working with a range of local colleges, training providers, and other partners.

The aim of the project is to empower people working in the sector to develop new skills. This will enable them to continue providing high-quality care to local people.

We are working with adult health and social care providers to identify the best way to involve their staff.

The DSHSC project is part-funded through the European Social Fund. Courses

The project is funding a range of specific qualifications, provided by local partners:

• Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT • Level 1 course to embed the Care Certificate • Level 1 course in strengths based and person-centred approaches • Level 2 units in Dementia, End of Life Care, Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Autism. • Bespoke Level 4 Aspiring Manager Programme.

Please note individual partners may only deliver a selection of these courses.

The training qualifications will take approximately 20-50 hours to complete and can be completed flexibly. All learners will have access to 1:1 mentoring and support.

All training and mentoring will take place in line with ongoing social distancing measures. Due to COVID-19, we are anticipating that most project activity will be delivered remotely until further notice. Eligibility criteria

To be eligible, individuals must:

• Be legally entitled to live and work in the UK • Live in Norfolk or Suffolk and be employed by an organisation that provides health and / or social care services for adults in Norfolk or Suffolk.

We are able to support people who are self-employed within the context of State Aid law.

The health and social care sector is very complex, with many varied roles. If you are unsure whether you are eligible for funding, you should contact the DSHSC team.

The project cannot fund training that is considered mandatory or should other- wise be provided by an employer.

Individuals who are already receiving funded training should notify a member of the DSHSC team to discuss this in more detail. What’s in it for you?

• All courses are fully funded, meaning nothing to pay for you or your employer • All courses lead to accredited units, meaning they are more sought after by employers than an e-learning module. • It will improve your access to further and higher education opportunities • Improved chances of career progression. This accredited course can go onto your CV to open up more opportunities for you. • You will gain knowledge and skills to become more confident in your job, which will enable you to continue giving high-quality care. • Greater job satisfaction • IT equipment and basic support can be made available

Alongside our course offer, all employees will have access to of our Career Progression Mentors who will support you throughout your training, to enable you to complete the course and to discuss your next steps.

The DSHSC project is a unique opportunity to support staff who have been on the frontline during COVID-19.

What’s in it Not only is this training fully funded for staff in the health and social care sector, it is giving staff more skills and knowledge to continue doing the for your job they love, enabling them to give better care. Staff will feel more confident in their roles which employer? will improve job satisfaction and in turn will help with job retention.

All of this together will show a much more positive image of the health and social care sector. Courses Functional Skills

Functional skills are an alternative option to GSCEs allowing learners to develop and progress in both their lives and career.

Functional Skills Maths- Entry Level 2 up to Level 2

Functional Maths is based around real-life situations that you might encounter day-to-day or at work.

You will learn to apply number and practical mathematical skills to your personal life, work life and any vocational course. You will learn to use numbers confidently and to apply number skills to a variety of situations and solve problems.

You will focus on building practical skills such as problem solving, handling information and data, calculating ratios, averages and areas of shapes and space.

Functional Skills English- Entry Level 2 up to Level 2

Functional English is based around real-life situations that you might encounter day-to-day or at work.

Focusing on developing everyday practical skills such as letter writing, report writing, the use of formal and informal language and reading techniques. You will also take part in talks and discussions, helping you to build confidence in communicating effectively.

English for speakers of other languages (ESOL)

ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) qualifications are designed to help learners to develop English skills and build confidence in using English in everyday life, education and employment.

ICT Functional Skills- Entry Level 2 up to Level 2

Functional ICT is based around real-life situations that you might encounter day-to-day or at work.

You will focus on developing everyday practical skills in ICT to enable you to work confidently, safely and independently. Learning how to effectively find and select information, develop documents, manage data and complete tasks using appropriate software.

Digital Skills for the workforce

You will gain the digital skills to handle information, create and edit digital content, use online communication modes, work safely and responsibly and to identify and solve technical problems.

The Digital Skills for Work qualifications are based on the Essential Digital Skills Framework. The small, single unit qualifications are designed to develop your digital skills within a work related context.

Level 1

Course to embed the Care Certificate

This course is suitable for new starters or as a refresher for staff who did not have the opportunity to complete the Care Certificate when they started work in the sector. This cover the knowledge aspect for all 15 Standards of the Certificate with the added bonus of achieving a Level 1 qualification at the same time.

This course is the knowledge component only and competence will still need to be signed off by a workplace assessors.

Course delivered by: East Coast College (Gateway) Award in Progression embed- ding the knowledge elements of the Care Certificate, West Suffolk College (NCFE) Award in preparing to work in Adult Social Care which embeds the Care Certificate.

Introductory awareness of person-centred support in health and social care

The aim of this unit is to develop learner’s awareness and knowledge of person-centred support in health and social care. To understand what is meant by person-centred support and know the importance to individuals of person-centred support in health and social care setting.

By the end of the course, you will be able to: • Define person-centred support • Outline the importance of finding out an individual’s history, needs, wishes, likes and dislikes. • Give examples of how to provide person-centred support when supporting individuals in day-to-day activities. • Outline the benefits to an individual of person-centred support • Give examples of how individuals can be in control of their care needs • Outline how assessing risk can assist person-centred support.

The aim of the unit is to enable learners to gain knowledge of what dementia is, the different forms of dementia and how others can have an impact on the individual with dementia.

The aim of this unit is to provide an introductory awareness on autistic spectrum conditions. It provides learners with key areas of knowledge and explores important themes such as individuality, communication, behaviour and person-centred support. This unit covers the principles of supporting individuals with a learning disability to access healthcare. It covers legislation, barriers to and functions of healthcare services, and plans for healthcare.

This unit explores the meaning of learning disability and considers issues closely linked with learning disability support. These include an awareness of how the attitudes and beliefs of others affect individuals who have learning disabilities.

In this unit learners will understand what is meant by mental health and mental ill-health and its impact. Learners will also look at the legal frameworks that ensure high-quality care is provided.

Mentoring

In addition to the teaching provided by local colleges and training providers, you will be able to work with a Career Progression Mentor to explore your personal and professional goals and to identify any barriers to learning.

The mentoring support will include:

• Study skills support • Further qualifications and learning • Career guidance and progression routes • Professional-specific coaching and mentoring, for example for seeking to progress into the nursing associate, registered nurse, or qualified social worker routes.

Your mentor will remain available to you throughout your learning journey and will support you to complete your qualification and think about your next steps.

We are required to collect, use and share personal data for all participants receiving training under the DSHSC project.

For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Data Controller for the DSHSC project is the DWP. NCC as an ESF grant beneficiary organisation, is the data processor in respect of information it processes in relation to participants in the DSHCS project. The Delivery Partners listed on the final page are data sub-processors in respect to information processed through the DSHSC project which relates to participants in the operations and projects funded by the ESF. For information about how and why the DWP as Data Controller uses your personal data or to exercise your data protection rights please see DWP’s personal information charter.

The information you provide will be shared with the DWP and used to evaluate this project and to report to the DWP and ESF for monitoring purposes, in line with European Commission regulatory requirements.
