Technical aspects. Snooker 19 offers realistic visuals. In the case of the single-player mode, advanced artificial intelligence is used, which increases the difficulty level of the game. Snooker 19 Is The First Dedicated Game To The Sport On PS4. Snooker games on PS4 are few and far between. In fact, the only one we know off is the snooker DLC that’s available for Pure Pool. However, fans of the sport will be glad to know that there’s a dedicated PS4 snooker game coming out called Snooker ’19. Developed by Lad42 and World Snooker, and published by Ripstone Games, Snooker 19 is coming to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC next year. The game will feature all the top players from around the world. With a roster of 128 characters, you’ll be able to play as the likes of Ronnie O’ Sullivan, Mark Selby and others in some of the most iconic snooker arenas in the world. “Players will be able to compete in every major tournament culminating with the World Championship in Sheffield. Snooker 19 will be the first officially licensed game to be published across all current generation consoles as well as PC,” says Ripstone. With the backing of World Snooker and the official license to produce the game, Ripstone says that this will be the best-looking snooker game ever made and include TV style presentation. They’ll also be multiplayer modes as well as a single-player career mode. “As a sport, snooker has gone from strength to strength in the past decade and, at the same time, sports gaming has revolutionized”, said Lewis Ward of World Snooker “This is what makes working with Ripstone and Lab42 so exciting; seeing them create a state-of-the-art game that will deliver the most authentic snooker experience ever.” Snooker 19 Review – PS4. With a packed calendar of tournaments, a stunning physics engine, and a roster of all your favourite potters, Snooker 19 is a dream for fans of the popular sport…almost. Fully licensed by the officiating body, Snooker 19 comes packed with the most famous snooker players on the planet. From Ronnie “The Rocket” O’ Sullivan to John “The Wizard of Wishaw” Higgins, there’s an incredible 128 players that you can choose from and play against. When you take into account the sheer amount of players on offer, it’s somewhat forgivable that a chunk of the character models – despite being identifiable as their real-life counterparts – look like they’re straight out of the PS2 era. However, it’s still a little disappointing. Despite that initial bad impression, you’ll be spending most of your time with your head down at that table, partaking in the likes of the Masters and playing at the crucible or the World Snooker Championship, which should prove to be quite a draw to fans of the sport. Snooker 19 Features A Lot Of Content To Get Stuck Into. On top of that, there’s some decent multiplayer options for match-matching. These include global online tournaments, plus some variations of snooker if you want to try something different, such as 6-red which is played with the six colour balls and six reds. Despite the unimpressive start, (as soon as you see the first character model), the quality of the tables and the lighting and graphical polish of the balls, soon put me back in the mood to take Snooker 19 seriously. Then when you start to play, it’s clear that the physics engine is the star of the show and where the developer has spent the most time tweaking it to perfection. As someone who has spent a number of years playing on a snooker team, it’s impressive to see the balls react how they should. Whether you’re applying a curve shot, back spin or side as you attempt to position the cue ball for your next shot and rack up a big break, it’s quite satisfying as a novice snooker player to replicate some of the shots you’d play in real-life on the screen and seeing them work out exactly how you planned them. Snooker 19 Is Best Played With Aim Assist. The control scheme works well too. Using the left stick to initially line up your shot, you can hold down L2 to move the target line (aiming aid) more slowly for accuracy. Holding down the R2 trigger, you can then decide exactly where you want to hit the cue ball, and the white trailing line on the table shows you which direction the cue ball will end up. Then it’s up to you to choose the power required, before you pull back on that right thumbstick and take your shot. Like real snooker, there’s a fine line between making that perfect shot and ending up at the wrong end of the table. Even in easy mode, I’ve yet to score a break over 50 with aid assists fully on, and if you choose one of the harder difficulty modes, the aiming aids are reduced or removed, making it a lot harder. Great visuals outside of the character models. Where things don’t quite go according to plan are some of the matches against the A.I. Even the lowest ranked players on the easiest settings will pull often off some ridiculous shots to rack up a decent break. It feels it needs a lot more balancing to make it fair. One of the guys I was playing against also got stuck in a loop and pulled off an identical shot no fewer than five times in a row. To be fair, this example of poor or over-powered A.I. didn’t affect the fun I had with Snooker 19 when it was my turn at the table. It just made me concentrate a lot harder with the knowledge that if I miss a pot he might clear up! On the easiest setting, with all aids available, you’ve at least got a fighting chance and there’s nothing more satisfying then a well-placed shot where your cue ball lands in exactly the position where you wanted it to land. Pumped up to the hardest level and I was barely at the table. Overall though, Snooker 19 feels fantastic to play when you’re potting balls left, right and centre, and the accurate physics engine really makes it feel realistic. However, there’s one feature missing that is hard to forgive. Lack of Camera Angles Is Disappointing. The lack of camera angles to choose from is a big disappointment specifically the lack of an overhead view. You should also be able to walk around the table and view your shot from every angle so you can work out positioning and get a better view of whether you can sink that pot. With the current angles you can utilize, the aiming aid beyond your target ball is sometimes too far away for you to make a good judgement. Consequently, the omission of multiple camera angles means that some of your shots are a bigger gamble than they needed to be; and that simply shouldn’t be the case. Snooker 19. • Some Say That There Are Actually Four Players from Outside the U.K
Some say that there are actually four players from outside the U.K. that have been World Champion citing Australian Horace Lindrum, a nephew of Walter, who won the title in 1952. This event was boycotted by all the British professional players that year and for this reason many in the sport will not credit him with the achievement. The other three to make the list are first, Cliff Thorburn from Canada in 1980, defeating Alex Higgins 18 frames to 16. He also made the first 147 maximum break of the World Championships in his 1983 second round match against Terry Griffiths which he won 13 – 12. Third was Neil Robertson who won a never to be forgotten final against Scot Graeme Dott 18 frames to 13 in 2010. His route to the final had started with a match against Fergal O’Brien which he won 10 – 5. Next up was a heart stopping, come from behind win over Martin Gould after trailing 0 – 6 and again 5 – 11 before getting over the line 13 – 12. Steve Davis, multiple World Champion, was next and dispatched 13 – 5 which brought him to the semi finals and a 17 – 12 victory over Ali (The Captain) Carter. Third here but really second on the list is Ken Doherty from Eire who won the World title by beating Stephen Hendry, multiple World Champion winner from Scotland, at the Crucible in 1997 winning 18 - 12. Ken had previously become the I.B.S.F. amateur World Champion in 1989 by defeating Jon Birch of England 11 frames to 2 in the final held in Singapore.

  • John Higgins

  • The Whirlwind Blows Into Fast and Furious Snooker's
Marcel Eckardt might not be a name you are familiar with, in snooker. 21 year old Marcel is part of the new breed of referees. “This interview is the first I have done; I am a little bit excited.”At 21 Mar- cel describes himself as organised, helpful and friendly all good qualities doe a referee. How did the German born ref get into snooker? “I was 13 I think, I watched it on telly and found it interesting. I never got the chance to play snooker growing up as there were no tables near where I lived. Snooker and Pool aren’t popular in my region but I want to do my best to change that. “I love to play but you can’t be a player and a referee, so my solution to this was play pool. I started at 19 far too late to reach anything, but I’m not bad at it. It helps me learn more to improve my skills as a referee as well.” Snooker is seeing a change, with new players and recently a large intake of young referee’s, what interests young people in the game? “I think snooker is the perfect alternative for young people. Not everyone follows the crowd and favours team sports. Skills like concentration, tactic but also mental strength are important for snooker.” “Refereeing the final on PHC was exciting but, I had spent the day before feeling really ill, I felt confident and very proud to be given the opportunity. I would next like to referee the World Championship final, that’s the dream.” Referee’s in all sports face a lot of stick from fans, but it seems snooker fans are more respectful.
