Golden Corral Continues NASCAR Sponsorship, Pleges Donations to DAV Golden Corral continues NASCAR Sponsorship, Pleges Donations to DAV February 27, 2009 RALEIGH, N.C., Feb. 26—Race fans have a new reason to root for the No. 28 Ford Fusion: Golden Corral, America’s favorite family buffet and grill restaurant chain, is extending its NASCAR involvement and has signed on to sponsor Yates Racing driver Travis Kvapil for the next three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. It will also continue its “Race for America’s Families” promotion. Each time Kvapil posts a top 10 finish, Golden Corral will give every kid in America a free buffet* as well as make a $5,000 donation to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). “Golden Corral was thrilled to sponsor Travis in the Daytona 500 and our customers, employees and veterans across the country told us they were pulling for him, too,” said Chris Kuehn, chief marketing officer of Golden Corral. “We decided to extend our sponsorship because the response reinforced that this is a perfect fit for our brand and the start of the season is a great time of year to be involved in NASCAR.” “Golden Corral is a longtime friend of America’s veterans and active military members and a true partner to our organization. Through their Military Appreciation Monday event, they free meals to hundreds of thousands of veterans every year and have allowed the DAV to raise millions of dollars through Golden Corral’s generosity,” said DAV National Adjutant Arthur H. Wilson. “They always look to exceed their own generosity and go further to help us expand on the needed services we offer veterans and their families.” Travis Kvapil and the No. 28 Yates Racing team rallied to pull off an incredible top 20 run in the weather-marred 250-lap NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Fontana, Calif. Kvapil capitalized on competitor mistakes to march through the field late in the race to claim a solid 18th place finish. Kvapil is optimistic about his team’s racing abilities and is excited about the opportunity to race for America’s families again. “Our team is working extremely hard to finish top 10 not only for our own team goals, but because our fans have been there every step of the way. We are so thankful that Golden Corral has continued to put their faith into our team and we’ll do our best to make the kids and fans proud.” Fans can cheer on Kvapil and the No. 28 Ford Fusion in the next three races: Sunday, March 1, at Las Vegas Motor Speedway; Sunday, March 8, at Atlanta Motor Speedway; and Sunday, March 22, at Bristol Motor Speedway. Kvapil is from Janesville, Wis., and has recorded six top 10 finishes and one career pole in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. In 2003, he won the Craftsman Truck Series Championship. ABOUT THE “RACE FOR AMERICA’S FAMILIES” If Kvapil places in the top 10, Golden Corral will turn the Monday after race day into “Kids Eat Free” Day. Families who bring race tickets or official race results from a newspaper or Web site can receive a free kids buffet for any child 12 and under with the purchase of an adult buffet at participating restaurants nationwide. In addition to “Kids Eat Free” Day, Golden Corral will make a $5,000 donation to the DAV, an 87-year-old non-profit organization dedicated to providing services – free of charge through its nationwide network – to disabled veterans and their families. Through Golden Corral’s “Military Appreciation Monday,” the company has helped raise more than $3.26 million for the DAV since the program started in 2001. ABOUT GOLDEN CORRAL Founded in 1973, privately held Golden Corral Corp. is headquartered in Raleigh, N.C. Theodore M. Fowler Jr. serves as its president and chief executive officer. Golden Corral currently has 485 restaurants in 41 states. The company’s vision is to be the leader in the family restaurant segment by making pleasurable dining affordable for every guest, at every restaurant, every day. Golden Corral restaurants nationwide have long been strong supporters of the U.S. Military and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Golden Corral helped raise more than $736,000 for the DAV in 2008 as part of its annual “Military Appreciation Monday” initiative.
