Welcome back! – it’s lovely to see you all back here at Masses this weekend. Here’s hoping that situation will be able to continue. Thank you to those people who helped in any capacity during the lockdown. Arrangements for Christmas – obviously the celebration of Christmas will be quite different this year because of social distancing regulations. If necessary we will have extra Masses to spread out the number of people who might be coming, with a possibility of Mass on Christmas Eve in Hinckley at 12.00pm (the YouTube) Mass at 3.00pm in addition to 7.00pm and Midnight, plus the two normal Masses on Christmas morning. We will also have to look at the schedule in Earl Shilton and Market Bosworth. Fr.Brian and I will discuss the matter and then there will be a consultation next weekend when you will be asked on arriving or leaving church which of the Masses you intend to come to. Once that is established, we will be able to formalise a schedule which hopefully will enable everyone to celebrate Christmas at Mass. There is also the problem of Boxing Day being on a Saturday and the question arises about whether to have Masses on that day for the Sunday or not, bearing in mind that we still have the problem of accommodating everyone. What is definite is that we will need a lot of help around the Christmas feast – particularly with stewarding. So if you are willing to act as a steward for one of the proposed Christmas Masses, please let us know at the Priory. If we do not have enough stewards, we will not be able to offer Masses. We also will need help in putting up the tree and crib the weekend before Christmas in our churches, so please don’t leave that to someone else. Eucharistic Ministry – would all our ministers please resume their responsibilities on Sundays by checking with the people to whom they normally take Communion if they would still like you to come before actually doing so. Some people still feel uneasy and even afraid, which we have to accept and understand. Extra Mass – Fr. Brian will be celebrating Mass in Hinckley on Tuesday at 11.00am to mark the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Our Lady. First Communion 2021 – a letter will be sent out before Christmas inviting practising Catholic parents of children eligible to make their First Communion next year (Year 3 and upwards) to make formal application on their behalf. The programme will be quite different for the obvious reason and we will give details once consultation with the catechists has taken place. If anyone would like to help as a catechist, please see Fr.Frank. Covid Christmas ideas from Churches Together – our district Churches Together groups have come up with some inventive ideas for us to mark the feast in a very difficult year. You could decorate your windows or gardens using the theme of a Christmas carol, get the children to make a tissue ‘stained glass window’ to put in your window, or you could design an angel which may be knitted, crocheted or junk modelled to be put in your window with a light, so that people passing can see the real light of the Christmas feast. It has even been suggested that you might take a picture of your display and post it on Facebook if this is how you normally communicate with others. The main purpose of this enterprise is to be a sign of hope that we as a community can get through this very challenging time together. Care should be taken to ensure that everyone is safe and so consider the sizing and placement of the displays so that they can be seen without anyone needing to get too close to your house or windows. Last week for AlterNativity – this year’s project ends after Masses next weekend. If you would like to do your Christmas shopping in this very inventive way, please pick up a form from church, fill it in and return it as soon as possible. For more details please look at the YouTube video or on www.hinckley-alternativity.org.uk “Walk with Me” books – for Advent are on sale at Masses this weekend at £1 each Community diaries - for next year are also available at the same price. Online sessions for catechists – the diocese are offering two online sessions for catechists this week – Tuesday for leaders of Children’s Liturgy and Thursday for First Communion catechesis. For more details please contact joe.hopkins@diocese of .uk. You can also obtain from Joe, details about how to mark the celebration of Advent and Christmas in these trying times. Second Collection – next weekend for the poor and needy parishes of our diocese Phil’s Christmas song - Phil Byrne and friends have recorded a Christmas charity song video called ‘Christmasland’, which you can watch on Facebook or YouTube and then donate directly to your favourite charity. For more details please contact Phil on [email protected]. Earl Shilton church grounds – if anyone would care to tidy up the church grounds, ie. sweep up leaves, etc., before Christmas that would be much appreciated.
