NORWICH CITY are a popular football institution, one that is sometimes too strong for second tier football, but lacks the financial clout to maintain a top level presence. The club has little trouble gaining support at their homely, compact arena, but with the continued polarisation of English and European football, clubs like Norwich may have challenges ahead in finding their true place in the modern game. They will, undoubtedly, have to weigh-up the long-term benefits of speculation or choose a path of realistic sustainability, balancing immediate requirements with ambition and aspiration. If they are seen as a little cautious, Norwich’s experience of life outside the big time has equipped them well to manage expectation and to withstand future crises. The need to be part of the top flight In 1972, Norwich won promotion to English football’s top flight for the first time. It was a golden period, which two trips to Wembley (in 1973 and 1975) and for the next 20 seasons, Norwich were in the top division for 17 years. Another Wembley visit followed in 1985 and this time, the Canaries won the Football League Cup. When the FA Premier League started in 1992-93, Norwich finished third, their highest-ever placing. -

Okay my name is er Michael Campbell I live in Colchester in Essex but I was born in Stratford E15 er I went to school in Stratford and Plaistow E13. Erm my first experience er my father was born in Manor Park my grandparents lived a stones through away erm from the Boleyn Ground Inniskilling Road erm literally like 200 metres away. And erm I lived in a house in Bolton Road Stratford opposite West Ham Park. Erm my primary school was Park County Primary School in Ham Park Road round the corner to where I lived. A couple of ex West Ham players from years ago before my time attended that school erm I erm I was very interested in football at an early age and Brian Dear that played for West Ham lived quite locally and he was a cousin of my sisters erm best friend. So we see Brian quite regularly and he would come over the park with us and put a couple of jumpers down on the floor for goal posts and we’d have a about 200 against 200 with an old leather ball. That weighed a ton on a west cold day when nobody wanted to head the ball, it was like heading a medicine ball. -

Phil Brignull and Brian Mooney scored for the Welsh side inside the first 21 minutes to put them two up. Tommy Cavanagh’s side fought back to be level ten minutes later with goals from Alan Taylor and Ray Deakin. It was Deakin’s first goal for the club. Burnley were the better side in the second half. Midfielder Paul Comstive, who would go on to play for the Clarets, was sent off at 2-2. Goals from Neil Grewcock and Derrick Parker (2) reflected home superiority. Centre-forward Parker had returned to Turf Moor after spells at Barnsley and Southend United. He had previously played for the Clarets in the First Division. MONDAY 1st JANUARY 2018 Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s first goal of the season looked to have given Burnley a precious point at home to Liverpool but the Clarets were cruelly denied by an injury-time winner from Ragnar Klavan. It was the Estonian’s first ever Premier League goal. Jurgen Klopp’s team had taken the lead when Senegal international Sadio Mane picked up a deflected Trent Alexander-Arnold cross and fired past Nick Pope in style. -
