Luminaries Galore at The Closing Ceremony of 8th Theatre Olympics in Mumbai Mumbai, 8th April 2018: After a glorious run of 51 days across 17 cities of India, the historic event 8th Theatre Olympics drew to a colourful close here today. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Devendra Fadnavis was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony. Hon’ble Minister of State (I/C), Ministry of Culture, Dr. Mahesh Sharma and eminent theatre and film personality Shri Nana Patekar were Guests of Honour at the closing ceremony. The closing ceremony was honoured by the gracious presence of Artistic Director, 8th Theatre Olympics, Shri Ratan Thiyam and presided over by Acting Chairman, National School of Drama Society, Dr. Arjun Deo Charan. Shri Theodoros Terzopoulos, Chairman of the International Committee of Theatre Olympics, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Shri M L Srivastava, and popular theatre and film personality Shri Nawazuddin Siddiqui were special guests at the closing ceremony. Director of National School of Drama, Prof. Waman Kendre, was also present on the occasion. “We get many chances to show our strength and potentials, but 8th Theatre Olympics has given us unprecedented opportunity to show the power of our culture. 8th Theatre Olympics could not have been possible without the inspirational support of Dr. Mahesh Sharma, our beloved and visionary Culture Minister, Government of India. The International Conference Japan – Film – Theatre – Media Art – East and West: Contemporary Interconnections The Idea In the postwar period, Japanese performing arts and fi lmmaking underwent rapid and profound transformations. Following the era of accelerated modernisation, during which Japan had been quickly absorbing cultural infl uences and patterns imported from the West, a slew of innovative avant-garde theatre and fi lm artists of the 1960s began revisiting and reexamining their own cultural backgrounds and legacies. This strong counter-reaction was also related to Japan’s postwar political landscape, as well as the country’s military dependence on the United States and the social turmoil that it bred. The prominent Japanese theatre and fi lm innovations, developed over the course of the turbulent 1960s, became part of the worldwide cultural processes and have remained interrelated with their counterparts elsewhere, also in Poland, ever since. The conference builds upon this tradition of exploration and innovation, which oft en involved searching for roots and regenerations. It celebrates and examines the intersections of contemporary Japanese-Western theatre, fi lm, and media art, including direct artistic collaborations and major impacts on both sides, as well as non-immediate infl uences and distant reverberations. Yuri Lyubimov International Theatre
Yuri Lyubimov International Theatre Award 2020 – Theodoros Terzopoulos The Yuri Lyubimov International Theatre Award has been created in honour and memory of the outstanding Russian Theatre and Opera director Yuri Lyubimov (1915-2014), the extremely well-respected stage director who enjoys a high esteem in the performing arts community all over the world. His performances were innovative and unique, first in the Soviet Union and, after he lost his citizenship in his country of origin, also around the world. Due to his unique approach to theatre and opera, the best theatre and opera venues in Europe and the United States invited him to create his master pieces in their location – even though he was “stateless”, a migrant without legal documents. After the creation of the Russian Federation, Yuri Lyubimov could return to his home country, received a passport and could continue his work. In the memory of his achievements, every year the Lyubimov Foundation and ITI are selecting an outstanding theatre personality to be awarded with the Yuri Lyubimov International Theatre Award. In the past the Award was always given to at event around the birthday of Yuri Lyubimov at the end of September, the first in Moscow to Anatoli Vassiliev and the second one to Tadashi Suzuki in Saint Petersburg. Due to the pandemic there will be no event in 2020. The event will happen in 2021 as soon as travels are possible and such event can happen. Nevertheless, the jury of the Yuri Lyubimov International Theatre Award (Katalin Lyubimova, Natalia Isaeva, Anatoli Vassiliev, and Tobias Biancone) decided to announce the Awardee 2020 to you. -

He attended the Italian elementary school and later the German school in Rome . In 1973 he moved with his parents and brother to the small north Hessian village of Kruspis. Until 1981 he attended school in Bad Hersfeld . In 1982 Chotjewitz began training as a publishing bookseller, initially at the Weismann Verlag in Munich , and from the spring of 1984 at Rowohlt Verlag , Reinbek. Writers and much more. In 1983 he married and their daughter Sarah was born. In the spring of 1984 his first literary book was published, the collection Frühhreif - texts from the plastic bag , in 1984 the first radio play , Patience Holfstätter or The First Kiss . In 1988 he began translating Norma Klein's novels for Alibaba Verlag in Frankfurt . In the nineties Chotjewitz worked for independent theater groups in Hamburg and assisted there at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus and the Vienna Burgtheater. 1992-1994 he studied with the Javanese dance and performance teacher Suprapto Suryodarmo in Java . In the following years he worked with the Healing Theater in Cologne and the Julia Pascal Company in London. His novel about Albert Einstein , The Adventure of Thinking , was published in 1994 and received great attention and was reprinted several times, most recently by Carlsen Verlag in Hamburg . -
