From Acting Opposition Leader to YB 'Tarik Balik' Malaysiakini.Com November 08, 2010
From acting opposition leader to YB 'tarik balik' Malaysiakini.com November 08, 2010 Teluk Bahang (Umno) assemblyperson Hilmi Yahya had a daunting task today to deliver the opposition leader's speech on the recently announced 2011 budget at the Penang state assembly. Hilmi, who became acting opposition leader following Azhar Ibrahim's six-month suspension from the assembly for uttering seditious remarks, however, was not prepared for the missiles awaiting him inside the Dewan. NONEHe appeared so unprepared that at every juncture, he was interjected by Pakatan Rakyat assemblypersons, asking him to withdraw either an 'offensive' word, a 'scandalous' statement or an accusation of corruption against his opponents. To his credit, Hilmi (left), who is a former Penang deputy chief minister, readily withdrew his problematic utterances as soon as he made them when asked to provide evidence of his allegations. “I will retract the statement to save time,” he said, although he had been asked to retract his statement about 20 times in the morning session alone. One of his allegations involved accusing Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng of accepting bribery for his recent business trip to Australia in September. He was shot down immediately and fiercely by the usually mild-mannered Tanjong assemblyperson Chow Kon Yeow, who demanded that he retract his accusations or provide proof within 24 hours, failing which, he would be referred to the powerful privileges and rights committee. “I am just expressing the grievances of the rakyat,” explained Hilmi, but was told to withdraw his statement by house speaker Abdul Halim Hussain, which he eventually complied with. -

Guan Eng Can't Tell Right from Wrong Malaysiakini.Com Feb 5, 2014
Wanita MCA: Guan Eng can't tell right from wrong MalaysiaKini.com Feb 5, 2014 Wanita MCA chair Heng Seai Kie has taken DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng to task for "defending the indefensible" as the war of words escalates over Seputeh MP Teresa Kok's stirring video work. Heng said Lim was "incapable of differentiating right and wrong" as he could not see the havoc wreaked by Kok's Chinese New Year 11-minute clip, which satires the political situation in the country. Amidst uproar by a few Umno cabinet ministers and police investigations, Lim - who is also Penang chief minister - had said yesterday that he saw "nothing amiss" with the video and considered BN's exaggerated outrage a mere political ploy. But Heng (right) begged to differ, saying that the video published on the Internet on Jan 27 "will not only destroy the country's image, but also affect foreign investment and tourism which will impact the national economy, victimise the rakyat and the nation". "If Lim can spend some time and watch the video and also read the feedback from netizens, he will understand how Kok's video has created controversies and differences among the people, especially between the Malays and Chinese. "Thanks to the video, Kok cannot run away from contributing to the polarisation of the people and jeopardising national unity," Heng stressed in a statement. She damned the video, which features Kok as a talk-show host interviewing a "panel of experts" on what to expect in the Chinese Lunar Year of the Horse. -

CATEGORY: FOOT IN MOUTH Nominee Background and basis for nomination 1 “Most Malays are sensitive Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is alleged to have made this to [the rape of] teenage statement in response to the release of a report that statutory rape figures are girls…Non-Malays are higher in the Malay community than amongst non-Malays. probably less sensitive towards this.” It is insulting to suggest that statutory rape is a racial issue. The Deputy Home Minister later claimed that the statement was taken out of context, but there is 18 March no context in which it is appropriate to allow the issue of ethnicity to subjugate the very universal problem of child rape. It is also an issue that someone of this high standing in Parliament is seemingly attempting to sweep this beneath the carpet, instead of treating it as an issue that needs serious attention. -

Offer Malaysiakini.Com Feb 8, 2014 Sarawak DAP Wants the Police To
Shocked by PM's silence over 'money for slap' offer MalaysiaKini.com Feb 8, 2014 Sarawak DAP wants the police to act against the NGO that offered a cash reward for slapping Seputeh MP Teresa Kok. “It has never happened in Malaysia where a person offers a reward to commit crime,” Sarawak DAP chairperson Chong Chieng Jen said. Chong, who is the MP for Bandar Kuching, urged this after lodging a report at the Simpang Tiga police station in Kuching yesterday against the NGOs which slaughtered four chickens in Kuala Lumpur and smeared the blood on a banner bearing photographs of opposition leaders. At the protest, the Muslim Consumers Association of Malaysia (PPIM) offered a reward of RM500 - and later increased it to RM1,200 - to anyone who slaps the MP and provides photographic evidence of this. Speaking to the media after filing the police report, Chong said: “The offer itself is an act of crime that is intended to criminally intimidate as well as intended to commit violence. “We want the police to take action. We have given them 12 hours from 3pm today (yesterday) to take action, failing which the police will be accused of condoning such acts of violence,” said Chong, who is also a lawyer. “Moreover, if anything happens to the MP for Seputeh, the police will be held responsible for their act of nonfeasance (failure to perform their duty as required by the law),” he said. More police reports A rather annoyed Chong said even more than 24 hours after the money-for-slap offer had been made and publicised, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, his deputy Muhyiddin Yassin and Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi were all keeping mum, as if they were condoning the crime. -
Laporan Jawatankuasa Tinggi Pusat
Agenda 3: Laporan Jawatankuasa Tinggi Pusat AM 1.
