2020 Gila and Trails NOT RECOMMENDED Note: Trail may be partially or completely impassable or obliterated. Read trail description to understand more specific conditions and the affected section of the trail.

Due to tree fall, floods, or other environmental conditions, the trails may become impassable at any moment. Travel at your own risk. To learn about more current trail conditions and water sources, call your local Forest Service office. In areas of recent fires, the grass and weeds grow very fast. Despite recent maintenance, dense vegetation and fallen burnt logs are likely on the trail.

Black Range 59 Silver Creek Trail Tread is gone (Aldo) An old fire obliterated tread in the section near Reed's Wilderness Peak. The lower section of the trail near Black Canyon 73 Falls Canyon Trail (Aldo) is overgrown with locust and has several large trees across the trail. Washout due to Silver Fire caused 15 foot drops Wilderness where trail crosses the creek. Not maintained since 78 Middle Fork Mimbres Trail (Aldo) the fire and likely totally overgrown with tread nearly impossible to find. 1 The Complex fire caused damage Wilderness to tread. Dead trees continue to fall and make the trail 102 Turkey Feather Mountain Trail (Gila) very difficult to travel on. It is also likely to be overgrown with locust and aspen. Wilderness 101 Homestead Trail Tread gone in middle section of trail. (Gila) Black Range 105 North Fork Palomas Trail Tread is gone on section near CDT (Aldo) Black Range 110 Lake Trail Tread is gone (Aldo) Black Range 116 East Curtis Trail Tread is hard to find (Aldo) Black Range 134 Trujillo Trail Dead ends (Aldo) Glenwood 138 Bead Spring Trail No tread (Gila) Black Range 148 Vic’s Park Trail Dead ends (Aldo) 2 separate sections are not recommended.

1) The trail section that travels along Cooper Canyon (between Iron Creek and Turkey Feather Pass) is obliterated from both fire and extensive flooding

2) The trail from Turkey Feather Spring to the junction Wilderness 151 West Fork Trail with the West Fork Corral Trail (# 814) was destroyed (Gila) by major flooding. It does not exist due the narrowness of the canyon and the severity of the flooding. However, there is an impressive old CCC wall in this section that was not destroyed. Although it is slow travel when you are off trail, it is a sight to see (by foot only – horses not recommended).

Wilderness Trail Canyon section is very overgrown and hard to 153 Mogollon Trail (Gila) find the trail. Impassable for horse.

Trail wash out on Sycamore Canyon Trail making it Wilderness 158 Sycamore Trail impassable to through travel from Turkey Creek to (Gila) Mogollon Creek. 2 Wilderness 167 McKenna Creek Trail Trail tread is gone in most places (Gila) The upper part of Trail Canyon Trail leading up to Wilderness was obliterated in a fire years ago. 169 Trail Canyon Trail (Gila) Now the tread is hard to find and overgrown with locust. Whitewater Baldy Trail from Wilderness The section of this trail in the high severity burn is 172 Iron Creek Lake to (Gila) heavily logged and the tread is hard to find. Whitewater Baldy Cienega (Upper Mogollon Wilderness This tread is hard to find and there are many logs and 177 Creek) (Gila) cut banks along the trail.
