Slide Event 1: International Action Global Initiative on Transport Emissions • A public/private partnership for the reduction of emissions from the transport sector

• How could GITE help DaimlerChrysler in issues relating to alt fuels and vehicles, emission and data exchange. DaimlerChrysler and the Global Compact

We at DaimlerChrysler believe on the 9 Principles under laying the Global Compact:

Human Rights 1 Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights within their sphere of influence; and 2 Make sure they are not complicit in human rights abuses. DaimlerChrysler and the Global Compact (continued) Labor 3 Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and, the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining; 4 the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labor; 5 the effective abolition of child labor; and 6 eliminate discrimination in respect of employment and occupation. DaimlerChrysler and the Global Compact (continued)

Environment 7 Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges; 8 undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and 9 encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies “The problem of how to ensure a sufficient supply of energy - environmentally friendly energy - is one of the biggest challenges facing our planet today”

The Vision: Creating a new energy world that is safe, clean, sustained, protecting resources, generating new products, benefits, values, new industries and business opportunities. • We have to search for the environmentally compatible energies and drives that will guarantee our future mobility - and find them.

• We have decided to concentrate on the most promiseable of all alternative drive systems - the fuel cell Preparing The Market

Both institutions are seen as a “global knowledge center” coordinating better access to vital information. Looking to the future, the UN and the World Bank will play a key role in crafting partnerships that support sustainable development. The “Global Initiative on Transport Emission” Project is a good example for this partnership.
