He was involved in the insurrection of 1848 which erupted in Naples. After his death, he was labelled as one of the warrior artists of Italy. Is this reflected in the painting we are contemplating—a battle? The landscape is desert, not a slice of green to be seen. Christ seems to be in a completely relaxed mode, an attitude of prayer, engrossed in conversation with his Father. Fasting has not emaciated him. He seems completely in control. Names of Jesus in Mark's Gospel
Son of God • Unclean Spirits (1:24; 3:11; 5:7) — the demons themselves knew who Jesus was and were deeply afraid. They both “fell before him.” Another place a demon cries out “I know who you are Son of the Who is Jesus? Most High God” which seems to be an attempt to “gain power” over Jesus. Finally there is a place Names of Jesus in where a demon calls him “the Holy One of God” or the “Holy One fom God.” Mark’s Gospel • The Son Doesn’t Know the Hour (13:32) — here Jesus himself talks about the “Son” not knowing the hour when God will send His Son back. Mary Magdalene
Mary Magdalene What on earth, you may rightly ask, has the 1966 Western, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly to do with Mary Magdalene? Nothing much really. However, while I was cogitating about her new status among saints, Ennio Morricone's haunting theme song sprang to mind. Instantly, I knew there must be some connection. The lasting legacy of this movie's well known theme song, regarded as one of the best of all times, speaks to me of the legacy of Mary Magdalene - of the good, the bad and the ugly written about her. Did I mention that Morricone’s composition was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2009? No, I did not; neither did I mention Mary Magdalene finally being given her rightful place by dear Pope Francis - her induction into a different sort of 'Hall of Fame.' Half a century ago, this year, we first heard the instantly recognizable theme music of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The good, the bad and the ugly about Mary Magdalene, on the other hand, has been widely proclaimed for nearly 2000 years. At times it is helpful to turn things upside down. So let me start with some of the prolific ugly written about Mary of Magdala, (also referred to as the red head, the courtesan, the prostitute or even the vamp) and then work my way through some of the bad. I'll keep the good for last. We all know her story from Sacred Scripture. In more recent years, however, a glut of books about Mary Magdalene, spawned in part by Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code, has flooded the book market. -

Scaramastro In considering the question whether the Lord Yahoshua Messiah's temptation was internal or external or actually a combination of both, we have to consider the background of events leading up to His temptation. We are going to try to bring together the historical setting as best we can from the gospel records. Here we have to look at what the record says about John the Baptist and what he was doing up to the point of Yahoshua's baptism. We see John actively preaching about his role in this divinely appointed process. Consider the following passages of Scripture (common color denotes common ideas): Matthew 3 1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, 2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord [Yahweh], make his paths straight. 4 And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey. 5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan, 6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins. 7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance: 9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. -
Daniel's Vision of the Son Of
Daniel’s Vision of the Son of Man E.J. Young, Th.M., Ph.D. [p.3] One of the most majestically conceived scenes in the entire Old Testament is that of the judgment in which a figure like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven and was brought before the Ancient of days. The vision has to do with the judgment of four beasts which represent human kings, and also with the establishment of the kingdom of God.1 At its central point is the scene of judgment and the introduction of the Son of man. Concerning this strange figure there has been much discussion, and it will be our purpose to ascertain, in so far as that is possible, his identity. A Survey of Daniel VII The seventh chapter of Daniel relates events which took place in the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon.2 During this year a dream came to Daniel, the content of which he recorded. In this dream he saw the great sea, a figure of humanity itself.3 From the sea there arose four beasts, each diverse from the others. These beasts did not arise simultaneously, but one after another. The first is said to have been like a lion, with the wings of an eagle. In its flight to heaven it was checked, the heart of a man was given to it and it was made to stand upon its feet as a man. The second beast was compared with a bear raised up on one side. The third resembled a leopard, and the fourth was nondescript, compared to no animal. -

He is “the perfect man,” who invites us to become his disciples and follow him. (CCC 520) In reality it is only in the mystery of the Word made flesh that the mystery of man truly becomes clear. For Adam, the first man, was a type of him who was to come, Christ the Lord, Christ the new Adam, in the very revelation of the mystery of the Father and of his love, fully reveals man to himself and brings to light his most high calling. (Vatican II, Gaudium et Spes 22) The Creation of Adam, the first Man So God created man (Heb adam) in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them...
