“The salmon, the tree, and even Celilo Falls (Wyam) echo within if we become still and listen. Once you have heard, take only what you need and let the rest go.” Recalling Celilo, Elizabeth Woody

Again, in February, when days are short and often gray, make room in your life for a writing retreat. Take a day for yourself, away from your hectic life, to put words on a page, to begin fragments that turn into the writing you have missed doing. This year’s Oregon Writing Project annual writing workshop for K-12 teachers will feature Elizabeth Woody (Navaho/ WarmSprings/Wasco/Yakama) who became Oregon’s Poet Laureate in 2016. She has authored and published poetry, short fiction, essays, as well as a collection of visual artist.

2017 Guest Writer Elizabeth Woody “The power of language in poetry, song, story and legacy has kept Oregon’s communities vibrant.” Woody’s poetry reflects her close ties with her family, the natural world, and her people, a group she portrays with humanity and sympathy.
