artist anicka yi debuts fragrance collection

For multi-disciplinary artist Anicka Yi, a project two and a half years in the making now yields a collection of three fragrances and a consumer-facing olfactory brand called Biography. While it’s a bit of a departure from Yi’s typical work (conceptual pieces that lie at the intersection of scent, experience, and science), the process did not differ all that much. Yi, alongside Barnabé Fillion, tested samples and balanced personal taste against political statements and science based decisions with an emphasis on fluidity.

The three all natural fragrances were crafted to embody significant women in history and set a course for future generations, all while being gender-neutral and emphatically contesting the traditional confines of femininity. Biography will also riff upon sculpture. Yi has embedded the plastic, prismic bottles with real, dead bugs.

Yi has also created three short film trailers to accompany the . Set against a soundtrack of drips and light percussive beats, they feature shots of snails crawling on her sculpture, a tattooed arm emerging from sand, and computer-generated, robotic arms manufacturing perfume.

Perfumery Folie à Plusieurs celebrates the release of Find Me, the sequel to André Aciman’s celebrated love story Call Me By Your Name, with two fragrances that seek to transcribe the narrative into the medium of scent.

Celine has opened a dedicated perfume boutique on ’s 390 rue Saint-Honoré. The space hosts the maison’s Haute Parfumerie collection, a series of 11 unisex fragrances developed by the brand’s creative director Hedi Slimane.

The boutique contains artworks curated by Slimane, incluifng a composition of wood blocks by Luisa Gardini; canvases by Camilla Reyman and Søren Sejr; and a glazed gunmetal form by Rochelle Goldberg that was commissioned for the boutique. FRAGRANCE NEWS byredo

byredo’s latest 1996 limited-edition collection

Modern Swedish luxury house Byredo has just dropped a limited-edition collection inspired by Kirsten 1996, a picture of a young girl taken by iconic photographers Inez & Vinoodh that same year.

The range includes an Eau de Parfum, a leather travel perfume case, hair perfume and a hand cream where each box is decorated with a Kirsten 1996 photograph. The top notes of the products include black pepper and juniper berries, while the heart of the scent has been incorporated with leather accord, orris and violet. To finish it off, the base features black amber, patchouli and vanilla.

The limited-edition Byredo 1996 collection ranges from €32 to €135 and is now available for purchase on Byredo’s website. FRAGRANCE NEWS jo malone & zara perfumer jo malone partners with zara for global fragrance launch

Zara has called on the fragrance expertise of perfumer Jo Malone, the founder of Jo Loves, for its latest perfume launch.

Malone has worked with the Inditex owned retailer to create a range of eight unisex fragrances called Zara Emotions by Jo Loves. The edps are said to be inspired by Zara’s past, present and future fashion collections.

The Zara Emotions collection (Ebony Wood, Vetiver Pamplemousse, Amalfi Sunray, Tubereuse Noir, Fleur D’ and Fleur De Patchouli) is available in 10ml (€5.95), 40ml (€15.95) and 90ml (€25.95).

Thom Browne is now entering the world of fragrance for the first time. The collection includes six scents, all unisex fragrances.

For each scent, the designer chose vetiver . This include’s Vetyver Absolute, then combinations like Vetyver and Cucumber, Vetyver and Grapefruit, Vetyver and Whiskey, Vetyver and Smoke and Vetyver and Rose.
