4 Painted Churches Tour On Saturday, April 6th, 54 Mary Queen pilgrims traveled to Schulenburg, TX to tour the painted churches in the area. Their tour began at the Chamber of Commerce where they were greeted by a very knowledgeable tour guide who not only lectured about the churches but also shared a wealth of information on the history of the area. The first church visited was Saints Cyril & Methodius in Dubina. It is beautifully decorated with frescoes and stenciling. The second church toured was St. John the Baptist in Ammannsville. Inside the church is a purely ornamental painting with stenciling, infill, freehand and marbling techniques. A delicious lunch was served at the Oakridge Smokehouse with a stop at the gift shop. The third painted church, St. Mary’s in High Hill, was toured after lunch. It is a classic example of the Gothic Revival , displaying not only late Victorian features, but also the European background of the German and Czech Moravian settlers as well. After we bid our tour guide farewell, the group headed to the Mejek Vineyard and Winery in Moravia. Many in the group did a wine tasting of six sweet or dry wines. The favorites in both categories were the ones named after the CARDINAL. After the wine tasting, we arrived at our last painted church, St. Mary’s in Praha where Father Sibi concelebrated Mass with Father Gabriel, the pastor. After Mass, Father Gabriel, requested a group picture on the altar. The trip wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Buc ee’s in Katy. As we arrived back at Mary Queen, everyone agreed that it was a fun filled, action packed day. We enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful churches and enjoyed the fellowship of our fellow parishioners and guests. Another Painted Churches tour is planned for Saturday, October 19th. If you are interested in attending, please email Anita at [email protected] and provide your name, phone number, email address and number of people attending. Stewardship Reflection For all those who generously share their unique gifts so that as a parish community we carry on the work of Jesus Christ. “There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone.” 1 Corinthians 12:46 All of us are blessed, regardless of our own individual circumstances; God has given each of us many gifts. How we use those gifts is our gift back to God. For God’s plan to work, each must do what we are called to do and guess what M we are not all called to do the same thing!
