Editorial “ Each life is made up of mistakes and learning, waiting and growing, practising patience and being persistent. ” Dear Aspirants, It is a great honour for us to publish "February 2019" edition of "Master In Current Affairs" a platform which provides you with in-depth and concise information. This edition is well designed specially by keeping all the forthcoming examinations in mind. The scope of this edition includes highly admired sections NEWS MAKER, NEWS DIARY, ONE LINER which are indeviatingly related to the examinations. Chalte-Chalte is one of the most steering elements of this which is mentioned at the bottom of every page. This edition creates a forum where all candidates and guidance personnel can meet the important issues of this month which may play a vital role in forthcoming examination. The important topics covered in this edition are : One among them is ‘The unending tragedy of 1984 anti-Sikh riots’ which was in news recently when Sajjan Kumar was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Delhi High Court on 17 December 2018. Kumar was awarded life term after the court found him guilty of offences of murder, promoting enmity between groups and defiling public property. Then an article about ‘All about Rafale deal case’, which discusses about Rafale deal which was in the news recently, here we have a look on the issue to know more about it. With the Supreme Court asking for details of the “decision-making process” that led to the order for 36 Rafale aircraft, there is likely to be greater clarity about certain key questions which have created a political controversy. Later we’ll see ‘Surrogacy Bill: Then & Now’ which seeks to regulate the surrogacy part of a rather flour- ishing infertility industry in the country. After it 'UN Climate Change Conference 2018 Katowice, Poland' which was held on December 3, to discuss the goal of finalising the implementation guidelines for the Paris Climate Change Agreement. The major outcome of the Paris Accord ‘rulebook’ has been ratified marks a step forward, even with the US threatening to withdraw from the deal — something it cannot do before 2020. In this edition we are providing the Model paper of Railway ALP Stage-2 and IBPS Clerk Mains 2018 for your self-assessment. There is a separate section named Quiz Time for your self-evaluation, which includes all the possible MCQ's from this month's current af- fairs. This will be highly beneficial for all the upcoming examinations. The topics of the next issue will be different, we make sure that we will be trying to serve you with our next edition consisting a rich piece of knowledge. Best of Luck for your exams. Your advice or suggestions will be much appreciated and welcomed. With Best Wishes Editor : N.K. 1 OBJECTIVES & RATIONALE OF THE SUBJECT Rationale At the senior secondary level students who opt Political Science are given an opportunity to get introduced to the diverse concerns of a Political Scientist. At this level there is a need to enable students to engage with political processes that surround them and provide them with an understanding of the historical context that has shaped the present. The different courses introduce the students to the various streams of the discipline of Political Science: Political Theory, Indian Politics and International Politics. Concerns of the other two streams - Comparative Politics and Public Administration- are accommodated at different places in these courses. In introducing these streams, special care has been taken not to burden the students with the current jargon of the discipline. The basic idea here is to lay the foundations for a serious engagement with the discipline at the under graduation stage. Objectives: Contemporary World Politics Enable the students to expand their horizons beyond India and make sense of the political map of contemporary world. Familiarise the students with some of the key political events and processes in the post cold war era. Equip students to be conscious of the way in which global events and processes shape our everyday lives. Strengthen their capacity for political analysis by thinking of contemporary developments in a historical perspective. Politics in India after Independence Enable students to become familiar with some of the key political events and figures in the post independence period. Develop skills of political analysis through an understanding of events and processes of recent history.

  • Belarus: a Chinese Solution?1 Tomasz Kamusella University of St
Belarus: A Chinese Solution?1 Tomasz Kamusella University of St Andrews Bezviz, or the European Union’s visa waver program extended to Ukraine a year ago in June 2017,2 must have angered the autocratic regimes in neighboring Belarus and Russia. Why would Ukrainians, who had just lost Crimea and were unable to stop the Russian incursion in the east of their country, be allowed to enjoy Rome or Paris without having to face the indignity of applying for a Schengen visa? The Eiffel Tower, the Sistine Chapel, or the Canaries can hardly be successfully replaced with the likes of Sochi, the rebuilt Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, or the Crimean seacoast stricken by the dearth of water. Neither are the Kuril Islands, known for their balmy climate conducive to all-year-round holidaying. To the average Belarusian and Russian the west inexplicably rewarded Ukraine for the military losses suffered with the privilege that should first be accorded to Russians or Belarusians. Autocracies as good at winning elections with the help of political technologists and sophisticated IT systems as those in Belarus and Russia are nevertheless still susceptible to fickle popularity felt by the ‘electorates’ for the strongman at the top. The less a dictator is popular, the more direct violence has to be applied to wage power. In turn, unleashing too much violence causes popularity to plummet even further. This confronts the regime with the unwanted downward spiral of increasing state violence that simultaneously generates instability, which in no time may morph into effective political opposition. And such opposition stands a chance of unsettling the dictator from power; an option best to be avoided.

TRADITIONAL HEALTH-RELATED PRACTICES OF RUSSIAN-SPEAKING IMMIGRANTS RESIDING IN THE UNITED STATES by POLINA AMBURG A Dissertation submitted to the Graduate School-Newark Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey In partial fulfillment of the requirements For the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Nursing Written under the direction of Dr. T. Lindgren and approved by ___________________________________ ___________________________________ ___________________________________ ___________________________________ Newark, New Jersey January 2019 @2019 Polina Amburg All Rights Reserved ABSTRACT OF THE DISSERTATION Traditional Health-Related Practices of Russian-Speaking Immigrants Residing In The United States By POLINA AMBURG Dissertation Director: Dr. Teri Lindgren The population of Russian-speaking immigrants is growing in the United States. Like many other immigrants, Russian-speakers (born in the former USSR) present with a number of health concerns. Many of the health conditions pertinent to this population are highly manageable and/or preventable. Empirical literature indicates low engagement in health-promotion, health maintenance, and screening behaviors in this group of immigrants. There is also an indication of a gap in research addressing culturally-based beliefs and behaviors of Russian-speakers in the US. To address a gap in empirical literature, a qualitative ethnographic study was conducted on the East coast of the United States. Twenty participants ages 36 to 83 years were interviewed along with participant observation at community events and analysis of documents (visual and print media). Data analysis revealed perceptions of health and illness to be influenced by perception of healthcare, and these findings subsequently guide health-related practices of Russian-speaking immigrants. The study also identified transnational socio-cultural ii connections to influence beliefs and practices of the immigrants who came to the United States after the USSR dissolution.
