NATIONAL is Asia’s most corrupt country with 69 per cent bribery rate: Forbes  India is the most corrupt Asian country with 69 per cent bribery rates, a report by Transparency International said.  The report was published in March 2017 but the official handle of the Forbes India tweeted the article again on Sep 1.  According to Forbes India, in five of the six public services—schools, hospitals, ID documents, police, and utility services—more than half the respondents have had to pay a bribe.  India is followed by Vietnam at 65 per cent, Thailand at 41 per cent, Pakistan at 40 per cent and Myanmar at 40 percent bribery rate. Ahmedabad gets India’s first World Heritage City certificate  Ahmedabad in Gujarat has been formally accorded the status of India‘s first World Heritage City.  The honour makes the walled city of Ahmedabad the first city in India, and the third in Asia after Bhaktapur (Nepal) and Galle (Sri Lanka). Arunachal Pradesh, J&K are fastest growing economies  According to a new series of gross State domestic product data with 2011-12 as the base year published by the Central Statistics Office, Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh were the fastest expanding State economies in 2015-16.  The two States also reported the fastest rise in per capita income in the same year.  Arunachal Pradesh‘s gross State domestic product (GSDP) expanded 16.5 per cent and that of Jammu and Kashmir 14.7 per cent at constant 2011-12 prices. Rs 7,900 crore Penalty on Vodafone For Tax Dues  The Income Tax Department has imposed Rs 7,900 crore penalty on the tax demand of the same amount on a unit of billionaire Li Ka-shing‘s CK Hutchison Holdings Ltd. over its decade-old sale of mobile phone business in India to Vodafone Group Plc.  Vodafone had in 2007 acquired 67% stake in the mobile-phone business owned by Hutchison Whampoa, now part of CK Hutchison. GST Collection for First Month at Rs 92,283 Crore  According to the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, taxes worth Rs 92,283 crore were collected in July from just 64.42 per cent of the total taxpayer base. Indian economy's growth slows down in Q1 2017-18 at 5.7%  A major decline in manufacturing and the lingering effects of demonetisation sharply pulled down India's economic growth rate in the first quarter of the current fiscal ended June to 5.7 per cent, as compared to 7.9 per cent in the same period a year ago. NDB approves $1.4 bn loan for projects in India, China, Russia  Ahead of the BRICS summit, the New Development Bank (NDB) of the five-member group has approved USD 1.4 billion loans for sustainable development projects in China, India and Russia. UCO Bank has Rs 7,500 cr exposure in identified stressed accounts  State-run UCO Bank on Wednesday said it has Rs 4,500 crore exposure in the identified 12 large non- performing accounts and additional Rs 3,000 crore in the second list of 21 stressed accounts. The installed capacity of the group was 51,671 MW as on July 31 and has over 28,000 MW of capacity under construction.
