1. to Host Next Steering Committee Meeting of TAPI Gas Pipeline i. India (New ) will host the next steering committee meeting of the proposed 1,814 kilometre-long Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline senior officials on both sides confirmed. The decision came during the sixth joint Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) meeting on trade, economic, scientific and technological cooperation. ii. The meeting was followed by a meeting between visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan.

About TAPI Gas Pipeline in Brief-

The Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India Pipeline, also known as Trans-Afghanistan Pipeline, is a natural gas pipeline being developed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). On 24 April 2008, Pakistan, India and Afghanistan signed a framework agreement to buy natural gas from Turkmenistan. The intergovernmental agreement on the pipeline was signed on 11 December 2010 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

2. Odisha: Special Programme to Prevent Spread of Malaria i. Odisha Government will soon launch “Durgama Anchalare Malaria Nirakaran” (DAMON), a special program to prevent the spread of malaria in remote areas of Ganjam district. ii. Under this program, camps will be held in remote areas for mass test for malaria. As many as 103 camps will be held in the next three months. Around 15,000 people would be covered under the program.

3. India Opens First Partition Museum in Amritsar i. The museum will include photographs, newspaper clippings, donated personal items, and screens showing video interviews with survivors. iii. It will also have 'The Gallery of Hope', where visitors can scribble messages of love and peace. Tickets are priced low at Rs10 for Indians and Rs150 for foreigners.

4. Cabinet Approves MoU Between India and Sweden on IPRs i. The MoU establishes a wide ranging and flexible mechanism through which both countries can exchange best practices and work together on training programs and technical exchanges to raise awareness on IPRs and better protect intellectual property rights.

5. Union Cabinet Approves New Metro Rail Policy i. The government approved a new metro rail policy for expanding the metro network across various cities in the country. The new policy was approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. ii. The metro policy will talk about standardizing norms and developing a procurement mechanism for implementation of the projects. At present, metro projects with a total length of more than 350km are operational in eight cities- Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Kochi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Gurugram.

6. „Indira Canteen Scheme‟ Launched in Bengaluru i. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi launched the „Indira Canteen‟ scheme, dedicated to former Prime minister Indira Gandhi- a state government initiative to provide food at low cost to cater to the urban poor. ii. The canteen, located in Kanakana Palya (Jayanagar) in Bengaluru, is one of 101 such that opened across various locations in Bengaluru. The canteens are loosely modelled on the late Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa‟s “Amma canteens”.

7. KVGB Bags Best Performer Award i. National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has conferred the „best performance award‟ for 2015-16 and 2016-17 to Karnataka Vikas Grameen Bank (KVGB) for its work in the field of credit-linking joint liability groups (JLGs). ii. 1,194 JLGs(Joint Liability Group) were credit-linked by disbursing Rs 19.38 crore during 2016-17. The outstanding accounts under JLGs stood at 6,329 involving an amount of Rs 63.83 crore.

China, which is suspected of failing to enforce past UN measures, accounts for 90% of North Korea‟s trade.

12. Australia to Get World's Biggest Single Tower Solar Thermal Plant i. Australian state government has approved the world's biggest single tower solar thermal power plant, a 150- megawatt structure to be built in South Australia by 2020. ii. Solar thermal technology uses mirrors to concentrate the Sun's light at the top of a tower. This heats the stored molten salt and the heat is then used to operate steam turbines.

Melbourne (in Australia) has been named world‟s most liveable city for a record seventh year in a row, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit‟s Global Liveability Report 2017. Melbourne scored an overall rating of 97.5 out of 100 on the liveability index. ii. Damascus in Syria was deemed the world's worst among the 140 cities surveyed. It is the first time in the survey‟s 15-year history that a city has held the No 1 rank in its own right for seven consecutive years. Vienna (in Austria) and Vancouver (in Canada) were on 2nd and 3rd Positions, respectively.

14. Earth's Largest Volcanic Region Discovered in Antarctica i. The largest volcanic region on Earth, with nearly 100 volcanoes, has been discovered two km below the surface of the vast ice sheet in West Antarctica. Researchers from the University of Edinburgh in Britain found a staggering 91 previously unknown volcanoes, adding to the 47 others. ii. These newly discovered volcanoes range in height from 100 to 3,850 meters, with the highest almost as tall as Switzerland's 3,970 meters Eiger mountain.

16. Alexander Zverev Beats Roger Federer to Win Rogers Cup i. Alexander Zverev won 6-3 6-4 at the Rogers Cup to claim his second Masters 1000 title and extend his winning run to 10 matches. ii. Zverev is the youngest Rogers Cup finalist since Novak Djokovic in 2007. Alexander Zverev and Roger Federer now have five tournament titles this year.

1. Cabinet Approved raising of over Rs 9000 cr through NABARD for Completing Irrigation Projects i. The Union Cabinet has approved raising extra budgetary resources up to 9,020 crore rupees for Long Term Irrigation Fund in 2017-18 under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY). According to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, the amount will be raised by NABARD through Bonds. ii. The Fund seeks to make loans from NABARD attractive for states by ensuring lending rate of 6 per cent per annum.

2. CCEA Approves Proposal of DIPAM for Strategic Disinvestment i. The department will set up an alternative mechanism comprising of the Finance Minister, Minister for Road Transport and Highways and Minister of Administrative Department, to decide on the matters relating to terms and conditions of the sale from the stage of inviting of Express of Interests till inviting of financial bid.

3. Italy to Host G-7 Interior Ministers' Summit on Security i. Italy will host a summit of G-7 interior ministers centered on security issues in the fall. According to Italian Interior Minister Marco Minniti, the meeting is being organized at the request of Italy's G-7 partners: Canada, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Japan and the United States. ii. Italy currently holds the rotating helm of the Group of Seven industrialized nations. The summit is expected to be held in October 2017.

2. It was founded in 1975.

3. Canada became the seventh member to begin attending the summits in 1976, after which the name 'Group 7' or G7 Summit was used.

5. However, Russia was eliminated from the group in 2014 after it annexed the Ukrainian territory of Crimea.

The telecom department had also asked NCLT to direct RCom and Aircel to get permission from the Supreme Court before filing their merger plea. 13. RBI Makes Aadhaar Linkage Mandatory for Farmers i. To ensure hassle-free benefits to farmers under Interest Subvention Scheme, the Reserve Bank of India has advised banks to make Aadhaar linkage mandatory for availing short-term crop loans up to Rs 3 lakh in 2017-18. ii. In order to provide short-term crop loans to farmers at an interest rate of 7 percent during the year 2017-18, the RBI said it has been decided to offer interest subvention of 2 percent to lending institutions, public sector banks, private sector commercial banks on use of their own resources.

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its approval to the proposal to complete the balance works of the North Koel Reservoir Project in Jharkhand and Bihar at an estimated expenditure of Rs.1622.27 crore to be incurred during three financial years from the start of the project. ii. The Cabinet also approved storage of water in dam restricted at lower level than envisaged earlier to reduce the submergence and to protect Betla National Park and Palamau Tiger Reserve.

2. Government to Conduct „World‟s Largest Sample Survey‟ for Students i. So far, during several rounds of the survey, a total of 4.45 lakh students have been tested for various learning outcomes. This time, approximately 30 lakh students will be assessed in the year 2017-18 making it the world‟s largest sample survey of student learning achievement.

The government has banned exports of gold jewellery, medallions and other articles above 22- carat purity in a bid to check round tripping of the precious metal. ii. According to the Directorate-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), certain provisions of the foreign trade policy (2015-20) are amended to allow export of gold jewellery and articles containing gold of 8 carats and above up to a maximum limit of 22 carats only from domestic tariff area and export-oriented units, electronics hardware technology parks, software technology parks and bio technology parks.

National Highways Authority of India launched two mobile Apps – MyFASTag and FASTag Partner in , to facilitate the availability of FASTags for Electronic Toll Collection. ii. MyFASTag is a consumer App that can be downloaded from the App Store for both Android and iOS systems. FASTag Partner is a merchant App. Agencies like Common Services Centre, banking partners, and vehicle dealers can sell and enroll FASTag through this App.

6. HDFC Bank Revises Interest Rates On Saving Accounts i. HDFC Bank Ltd has announced a revision in its savings bank interest rate effective August 19, 2017. Customers maintaining account balance of below Rs 50 lakh will earn interest at 3.5 per cent per annum from earlier 4 per cent. 7. BSNL Launches Digital Wallet Powered by MobiKwik i. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) went digital by launching a bespoke mobile wallet (mobile payment App) that would enable its existing 100 million customers to make Bill payments. This digital wallet was launched at an event by Manoj Sinha, Minister for Telecommunications in the capital. ii. The wallet has been developed and issued by MobiKwik on behalf of BSNL.

8. World Bank Pledges $24 Million to Enhance India's Forest Ecosystem Services i. The Finance Ministry and the World Bank signed a grant agreement of $24.64 million from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) of the World Bank for ecosystem service improvement project. ii. The project would be financed entirely by the World Bank out of its GEF Trust Fund. The project's duration is five years. The objective of the Project is to strengthen the institutional capacity of the departments of forestry and community organizations to enhance forest ecosystem services and improve the livelihoods of forest dependent communities in central Indian highlands.

2. FDI jumps 37% to $10.4 billion during April-June 2017 i. Foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country grew by 37 per cent to USD 10.4 billion during the first quarter of the current fiscal.
