He was one of the best players in Asia in the 1970s. Born in Setapak, Mokhtar showed interest in playing football at an early age. He played for his school and later for his home state, Selangor FA. He attended secondary school at Victoria Institution, Kuala Lumpur from 1966 to 1970 and established the Piala Mokhtar Dahari (Mokhtar Dahari Cup) which is still being played for until today. He was only 19 years-old when he first played for the Malaysia national football team in an international game. Mokhtar helped Selangor FA win the Malaysia Cup 10 times and scored 177 goals altogether. In international games, he helped the Malaysia national football team score a total of 125 goals in 167 caps. He was the best striker in Malaysia. His first game for Malaysia national football team was against Sri Lanka national football team in 1972. The Merdeka Stadium was his second home. Mokhtar was famous for his speed, accuracy and dribbling. Roars of "Supermokh" was all over the crowds including the young generation who tried to imitate his move. Mokhtar once did "The Goal of the Century" like Diego Maradona except Maradona weaved through six players and Mokhtar only weaved through 5 players from the half way line. Along with goalkeeper R Arumugam, defenders Santokh Singh and Soh Chin Aun, midfielders Reduan Abdullah and Shukor Salleh and Mokhtar's partner upfront Isa Bakar, Mokhtar Dahari's Selangor FA and Malaysia national football team were powerful forces in the '70s. In 1975, he represented the Malaysia national football team against English giants Arsenal. Malaysia national football team won the game 2–0, with Mokhtar scoring both goals. After the game, Mokhtar was rumoured to have been offered a chance to play for the Gunners. He also famously scored a goal in a 1–1 draw against England in 1978, dribbling past half of the 1 | P a g e opposing team coached by Bobby Robson. Paul Mariner was on the scoresheet for England that day. He won his 100th cap for Malaysia national football team when he played in a Merdeka Football Tournament match against Japan national football team in 1976. This number 10 of Selangor FA also had a friendly game against another number 10, Diego Maradona's Boca Juniors of Argentina in January 1982. The match ended with a 2-1 result; won by Boca Juniors of Argentina. Mokhtar Dahari retired in May 1986 after winning the Malaysia Cup for Selangor FA and himself the man of the match. He also gave his number 10 jersey to Raja Muda Selangor. He came out of retirement in January 1987 to play one more season for Selangor FA. In January 1988, he joined Kwong Yik Bank and won the Selangor League that year. Although not recognised internationally, he was claimed to have score 125 goals for his country, making him the top scorer of Malaysia. His story and the caused of his death was revealed for the first time in public in "The Untold Truth About Supermokh," premiered on National Geographic Channel on August 30, 2010 Mokhtar died at age 37 years-old of Muscular dystrophy at Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) at 8:25 am on 11 July 1991. His body was laid to rest at Taman Keramat Permai Muslim Cemetery, Bukit Permai. 2 | P a g e Exercise 2 In not less than 150, use the notes and pictures given below to write out a description of the advantages and disadvantages of living in the countryside and the city. Living in the countryside Living in the city Peacefully – air is fresh and cleaner – People City life is hectic- crowded. Have to rush – tall greet each other- friendly –Rivers and jungles – buildings and sky scrappers- not exploited or polluted 3 | P a g e Advantages and disadvantages of living in a city and in the countryside A lot of people decide to move to the countryside nowadays. However, there are still many people who prefer stay in the town and say that they couldn't live anywhere else. So which place is better to live? Let's think about both of them. I would like to start with the advantages and disadvantages of the big city life. Living in such a big city has a lot of advantages. There is a big offer how to spend free time. There are a lot of theatres, concerts and other ways of entertainment. There is always a lot to do and visit! There are a lot of possibilities of shopping. In various shopping centres and galleries you can buy whatever you want. What is more, there are a lot of working places in a city. Many big international companies have their locations in the cities, so it is much easier to find a job in a big city. Moreover, the public transport is developed quite well, so the commuting to work isn't a problem. On the other hand, there are some disadvantages of living in a big city. Cities are very crowded. Everywhere there are crowds: on the pavements and in the buses. What is more, the traffic is heavy and city's car parks are always very full. Sometimes it is very difficult to get from a given place to another. It may take hours! Moreover, the other disadvantage is the safety in a city, but actually the lack of safety. There is a big crime rates in cities. So you have to be very careful at nights when you leave your home. I think that in the country the problem of crime isn't so big. There aren't so many people and they usually know each other well. The possibility of robbery or other crime is relatively lower. Life in the countryside is more peaceful and the life is also slower. What is more, it is less stressful. There isn't any time pressure and the traffic conditions are better. A lot of places you may reach on foot. The city offers a lot: there are huge buildings, skyscrapers or some historic monuments. On the other hand, in the countryside there are a lot of breathtaking sceneries, space and other amazing places such as forests, lakes or mountains. Moreover, people in the countryside are quite different than people living in the city: they are relaxed, friendly and family-oriented. People in the city are like ants. They are always in hurry, busy and out of time. In the country people enjoy lives and take pleasure in their daily activities. As a disadvantage of living in the countryside we may consider the commuting problems. People who stay in the countryside often have to work in the nearest cities, so it may take a lot of time to get to it. However, the living costs in the country are much lower, the variety of products in shops is smaller. To sum up I would like to say that both countryside and city have some advantages and disadvantages. Both city and country may be a good place to live. However I will stay in the city till I retire. Then I would like to move to the country to have a rest. I think that everyone of us will take into consideration all aspects before he decides to move to the country. 4 | P a g e 5 | P a g e .

KREATIVITI, INVENSYEN DAN INOVASI: SUATU CADANGAN MATAPELAJARAN PADA PERINGKAT SEKOLAH MENENGAH Mohd. Azhar Abd. Hamid Sanitah Mohd.

ISSUE: 2017 No. 75 ISSN 2335-6677 RESEARCHERS AT ISEAS – YUSOF ISHAK INSTITUTE ANALYSE CURRENT EVENTS Singapore | 11 October 2017 The JDT FC (Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club) and the Success of Bangsa Johor Serina Rahman* EXECUTIVE SUMMARY . In the 19th century, Sultan Sir Abu Bakar created a singular Johorean identity distinct from that of the European colonizers that he partnered with. This was the beginning of Bangsa Johor . Today, the royally propagated Bangsa Johor identity marker is widely accepted by people from Johor, and is one of the reasons behind the citizens and diaspora’s support for the Johor Sultan and Crown Prince. In contrast to the federal government’s 1Malaysia concept, the Bangsa Johor identity is seen to be authentic and sincere. JDT FC is the Johor state football club and its social media channels are highly popular, outranking other teams and popular figures on Facebook. JDT FC is very adept at promoting the Bangsa Johor concept on their media channels, further driving its popularity. Similar to Sultan Sir Abu Bakar, JDT FC and the Crown Prince of Johor have elicited international recognition and accolades for both the team and Johor royalty, further engendering pride in the team, its royal owners, and the Bangsa Johor identity. * Serina Rahman is Visiting Fellow at the Malaysia Studies Programme, ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute. She would like to thank Leonard C. Sebastian and James M. Dorsey of RSIS for their encouragement, and for planting the seed that germinated the idea that football and JDT FC can be used to discuss Johorean identity.

  • Public Relations and Sport in Sabah, Malaysia: an Analysis of Power Relationships
Public Relations and Sport in Sabah, Malaysia: An Analysis of Power Relationships Che Ching Abd Latif Lai 1719445 Declaration This thesis has been composed by Che Ching Abd Latif Lai. The work the thesis embodies has been done by Che Ching Abd Latif Lai and has not been included in another thesis. Che Ching Abd Latif Lai ii Abstract The central theme of this thesis is about ‘power’. This thesis is an endeavor to explore how ‘power’ could affect the dynamic of communication and relationships between actors. Power has been chosen as the central theme as a way of building new theory about public relations as proposed by Curtin and Gaither (2005). The same thing can be seen from the sports studies literature, particularly in the relationship between the three main actors in sports; NGB, Media and Sponsors. The investigation of public relations activities in sports is due to the fact, as shown in the sports studies literature, that there was a lack of recognition of the role of public relations in sports. To provide answers for the above aims, this thesis employed the critical, cultural research approach. Bourdieu (1991) conception of capital together with Berger’ (2005) dimension of power relations were used to frame the study. Using a semi-structured interviews, data of this research gathered from respondents based on a purposive sampling technique. The data was analysed using a thematic analysis approach where seven central themes emerged. The findings in this research suggest that power or capital does affect the dynamics of communication and relationship between actors. The implications of this thesis is that it managed to map the dimension of power relations based on the capital possessed by the actors.

  • A Case Study of Malaysian Football
Maximising Stadium Attendance: A Case Study of Malaysian Football Nor Hayati Abdul Hamid Graham Kendall School of Computer Science, University of Nottingham, UK {nha|gxk}@cs.nott.ac.uk Abstract : Malaysian football is seeing a decrease in the number of supporters at stadiums. We propose that a level of importance is defined for each fixture, which we then maximise. This is in the expectation that the more important a match, the more attractive it will be for supporters. Keywords : Sports Scheduling, match importance, football, gate receipts Introduction Football in Malaysia started in the 1900’s, after being introduced by the British. It has developed ever since and the administration of Malaysian football is now the responsibility of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM). There are four main national football competitions in Malaysia; the most prestigious being the Malaysia Super League (MSL), the others being the Premier League, the Malaysia Cup and the FA Cup. The MSL was introduced in 2004, replacing the M-League. It is a privatised league with a private company, MSL Sendirian Berhad (MSLSB), overseeing the promotion and marketing of the MSL. The league began with 8 teams (Kedah, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Pulau Pinang, Sabah, Sarawak, and Selangor PB). It has a relegation system whereby the bottom two teams are replaced by the top two teams from the Premier league. In June 2006, FAM increased the number of teams in the MSL to 14, in order to encourage more competition.
