In October 2019, the series was selected for the full season. In May 2020, the series was renewed for a second season. The premise of the series focuses on Malcolm Bright, whose father, Martin Wheatley, is a notorious serial killer known as The Surgeon. As a child, Malcolm was responsible for allowing the police to arrest his father, and did not see his father ten years after joining quantico. Now a profiler with the FBI (until he was fired) and now consulting for the New York Police Department, Malcolm is forced to confront his father after a copycat serial killer uses Wheatley's murder techniques. He finds himself embroiled back in constant contact with his father as he must both use Wheatley's ideas to help police solve particularly horrific crimes and fight his own inner demons. Starring Chief Tom Payne as Malcolm Bright (formerly known as Malcolm Wheatley), a disgraced former FBI profiler who now works for the NYPD. He has a unique ability to view crimes from the killer's perspective, allowing him to pick up on things that other cops might miss. However, this gift also haunts him, forcing him to live in a constant state of fear that he will one day succumb to the same sociopathic tendencies as his father. He was a Martin Wheatley arrest officer and has since acted as a surrogate father to his son Malcolm; Gil hires Malcolm as new consultant after the latter was fired from the FBI. On January 28, 2019, it was announced that Fox had given the producer a pilot order. The pilot was written by Chris Fedak and Sam Sclaver, who along with Lee Toland Krieger, Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. Production companies associated with the pilot include Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television. On March 12, 2019, it was announced that Lee Toland Krieger would be the show's director. On May 9, 2019, it was announced that the production was given in a series of orders. The day after that, it was announced that the series would premiere in the fall of 2019, and the premiere will take place on Mondays at 21:00. On October 7, 2019, the series was assembled throughout the season with 22 episodes. In March 2020, Warner Bros. Television closed production due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Burkhead takes hostage his wife and police officer, Detective Dani Powell, and a depressed Malcolm offers to exchange his life for his own, distracting Burkhead long enough for Gil to shoot him. Ainslie discovers that her brother was visiting their father. Malcolm goes to Dr. Wheatley and warns him that he will reveal the truth about his missing memories. When a suspect is reported to have died by suicide, Gil gives his team a few hours to prove Malcolm's theory that he was framed. Malcolm and Dani visited a family lawyer who admits that he was an illegitimate child, rejected by the patriarch, and therefore took revenge by killing his family. He then poisons himself and his wife and daughters, but the police are able to reverse the poisoning. Dani takes Malcolm's intoxication home that night and helps him to bed. Dr. Wheatley's security guard at the shelter secretly contacts Jessica, revealing that she followed her son's visits. 3Strread Response BaileyLeyLis Randolph October 7 2019 (2019-10-07)T88.101033.66 Murder leads Malcolm and team Elaine Brown (Sakina Jaffrey), one of Malcolm's idols and prime minister expert in the science of fear. Based on letters extracted from the victim's body, as well as evidence that the man's brain was removed after his death, Malcolm suspects that the killer may be dissatisfied with Brown's former subjects. JT discovers that Brown illegally sucked her students with LSD, resulting in a suicide that she covered up. Jessica becomes concerned that her son's visits with Wheatley further damages his fragile mind; she asks Gil to intervene, but he refuses, as he feels, feels have to make your own choices. Brown identifies the suspect, just as Malcolm realizes that the killings are designed to destroy anyone involved in her research. While on horseback, the killer breaks into Brown's house and drugs her before she shoots him dead; Malcolm convinces her to surrender to the police. Jessica pays a visit to tell him to stop their son and he takes the opportunity to try to manipulate her. The influence of social media is killed in a way that Malcolm identifies as likely to be the work of a stalker. Accompanied by JT, he picks up Roger, a photographer who has been following the victim for some time, but refuses to reveal evidence that police believe he possesses for fear. After the real killer tries to escape from him, Malcolm makes Roger think that he is about to die, forcing him to hand over the evidence. This points to team Axel X, a designer and former friend of the victim, who Malcolm understands is the actual target.
