Clause 5 in Report No. 10 of Committee of the Whole was adopted by the Council of The Regional Municipality of York at its meeting held on June 23, 2016 with the following additional recommendation: 3. 1 YONGE NORTH SUBWAY EXTENSION Project Update Stephen Collins, Program Sponsor, YNSE Rajesh Khetarpal, Vice President, Community Engagement May 5, 2021 BETTER TRANSIT CONNECTIONS FOR YORK REGION & TORONTO • Four new stations along an approximately eight-kilometre extension of TTC Line 1, from Finch Station north to Richmond Hill. • Steeles Station will be a hub for local bus routes as well as a future rapid transit line along Steeles Avenue. • Bridge Station will conveniently connect with GO train, GO bus, and local transit service, including VIVA BRT. • High Tech Station will serve future communities envisioned within the Richmond Hill Centre area. • Metrolinx is working with municipal partners to evaluate and determine the best location for the fourth station as planning work continues. Recommendation(s): a) That SRPRS.20.004 be received; b) That Council endorse the staff recommendations contained in SRPRS.20.004 for modifications to the identification, boundaries, and resident to job ratios of York Region’s proposed Major Transit Station Areas, as follows: i. Staff Recommendation 2: Investigate through the OP Update the inclusion of lands on the east side of Bathurst Street in the Bathurst/Highway 7 MTSA, iii. PASSENGER CHARTER Year End Report 2016/2017 Dear Customers, This year, GO Transit reaches a milestone as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. What began in 1967 as a 14-stop commuter line from Hamilton to Pickering now runs across seven rail lines, and connects to 17 municipal transit systems across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, with all day, frequent GO bus service complementing GO train trips. The Passenger Charter continues to guide GO’s expansion: we will do our best to be on time; to always take your safety seriously; to keep you in the know; to make your experience comfortable; and to help you quickly and courteously. Each of these promises has a performance standard that we make every effort to achieve, and if there is an area where we didn’t exceed our target, we have a plan to meet it. The promise of an easy commute aboard all-day, two-way electrified train service every 15 minutes on all our owned rail corridors is the driving force behind our vision for GO’s future. Construction of the 25-stop Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit (LRT) is well underway, and GO will connect with this service at two locations. Shovels have broken ground for the new Bloomington GO station, and the new Downsview Park GO Station and 407 GO Bus Terminal are on schedule to open in December. Enhanced services are also being added, such as making PRESTO cards easier to purchase and load at various retail locations; installing mobile charging stations on our rail coaches; introducing corridor-specific Twitter handles to provide real-time and relevant updates; and automated announcements have been introduced to keep you “in the know.” We’re here to listen to what you have to say. -
New GO Stations in York Region to Support Regional Express Rail
Clause 5 in Report No. 14 of Committee of the Whole was adopted by the Council of The Regional Municipality of York at its meeting held on October 20, 2016 with the following additional recommendation: 7. Receipt of the communication, dated October 17, 2016, from the Commissioner of Transportation Services regarding “New GO Stations in York Region to Support Metrolinx’s Regional Transportation Plan and Regional Express Rail Program”. 5 New GO Stations in York Region to Support Regional Express Rail Committee of the Whole recommends adoption of the following recommendations, as amended, contained in the report dated September 22, 2016 from the Acting Commissioner of Transportation Services: 1. Council endorse two new GO stations in York Region on the Barrie GO rail corridor near the intersection of Kirby Road and Keele Street in the City of Vaughan (Kirby) and near the intersection of Mulock Drive and Bayview Avenue in the Town of Newmarket (Mulock), as recommended in the Metrolinx GO Regional Express Rail Update report adopted by the Metrolinx Board of Directors on June 28, 2016. 2. Council request the Ministry of Transportation and Metrolinx to fully fund the new GO stations at Kirby and at Mulock as part of the Regional Express Rail 10-Year Program. 3. Council request that Metrolinx reconsider its decision to not include a new GO station on Highway 7, east of Keele Street in the City of Vaughan (Concord) in the Regional Express Rail 10-Year Program. 4. Council request Metrolinx and the City of Vaughan to work with staff to immediately pursue improving the Initial Business Case for the Concord GO station to address transportation needs associated with future growth in this area, as set out by the Proposed Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe 2016. -

Frequently Asked Questions Why is Metrolinx expanding GO service? The Greater Toronto Hamilton Area (GTHA) is growing fast, and while this growth is a sign of success and opportunity, our transportation networks are at their limit. Metrolinx is working to build a regional transportation system that’s modern, efficient and integrated, with more public transportation connections to keep GHTA residents moving today and tomorrow. What is Metrolinx doing in the GTHA? Expanded GO service is just one part of what is being developed in the Region. Metrolinx is delivering the largest transportation infrastructure program in Canadian history and it will transform the GTHA. To give you a sense of the scope of what is planned, Metrolinx has an ambitious plan that envisions more than 1,200 kilometers of rapid transit – more than triple what exists now – so that over 80 per cent of residents in the GTHA will live within two kilometers of this network. Currently, there are more than 400 rapid transit projects underway, creating enormous economic benefits of 800,000-900,000 person years of employment and an infusion of $110-$130 billion to our economy. When complete, the Metrolinx plan will transform the way the GTHA moves. What specific projects are expected in my community? In Aurora, Metrolinx is working to create more connections to the entire GO network with faster, more frequent local service. To make this happen, we’ll be installing new track, building bridges and tunnels, introducing new trains and constructing a new station at Bloomington Street. Our goal is to bring you 15 minute two-way all-day service between Aurora and Union GO Stations, and 15 to 30 minute service from the new Bloomington GO Station to Union station during the weekday rush hour. -

Media Release November 10, 2017 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE METROLINX IDENTIFIES WHITCHURCH-STOUFFVILLE TRANSPORTATION ISSUES IN DRAFT 2041 REGIONAL PLAN Council asks Metrolinx to not charge transit users for parking at Stouffville stations WHITCHURCH-STOUFFVILLE, ON – Metrolinx has identified several planning and transit improvement projects within Whitchurch-Stouffville in their Draft 2041 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) released in September. Whitchurch-Stouffville Council was updated on these initiatives, which include the electrification of the Stouffville GO train corridor, the expansion of the layover facility in Lincolnville and a new Lincolnville GO station on Tenth Line, at the Council meeting Tuesday. Council was also asked to not endorse a plan by the provincial Crown agency to charge riders for parking at the proposed Lincolnville GO station and the current Downtown Stouffville station. “Charging users for parking at any of the current or proposed GO stations in Whitchurch- Stouffville could add to the parking issues we already face in Town,” said Rob Flindall, Director of Public Works and Project Lead of the Town’s recent Commercial and Residential Parking Study. “We may start to face issues where GO riders seek free parking in other areas of the town, reducing the availability of parking for businesses and residents.” According to the Draft 2041 RTP, only 32% of riders travelling to Toronto on the GO train arrive at their suburban GO station via a mode of transport other than a single-occupancy vehicle. Metrolinx wants to increase this number to 62-64% by 2041. “Locally in Whitchurch-Stouffville, this policy will help reduce the number of vehicles on the roads and ease rush hour traffic congestion around the GO stations; however, it will also require the Town to increase development density and put more people within a 10-minute walk of the stations,” said Haiquig Xu, Deputy Director of Development Services. -

The expansion includes double-tracking through Aurora to allow for 15-minute all-day two-way GO Train service between Barrie's Allendale Waterfront station to Toronto's Union Station. Additional components include upgrades to the Aurora GO Station, a vehicle and pedestrian underpass under the tracks at Wellington Street, and additional service through the nearly-complete Bloomington GO Station located on the southwest corner of Bloomington Road at Highway 404. ?More than a rush hour commuter service GO Expansion will connect communities with more GO service, faster trains, more stations and seamless connections in a regional rapid transit network,? says Metrolinx. ?The change will be seismic in how commuters will travel through the region.
