Optimism is everywhere. The industry is predicting full order books for 2014, retailers’ tills will be ringing and tourism businesses are already satisfied. We are being told that unemployment is falling and GROKO wants to distribute a horn of plenty to its citizens. Germany is supposed to be the locomotive and put the EU states that have lost their way back on the right track. Agency reports state that the USA is recovering slowly from the financial crisis. So the sweet drug of flooding the euro and dollar is having its effect but it is doping for the economies. As in the case of sport, politicians like officials too have no regard for future damage. They want victory and recognition here and now. The vehemency and power with which the players use all available means makes a speedy turnaround less likely. The positive trend will therefore continue and you can start the new order round in good spirits and choose the best garments for your customers. The new edition of THE INTERNATIONAL FASHION GUIDE (Vol. 39) can help you here with lots of detailed information. See who belongs to the group of special, international designers and manufacturers. The Guide gives you details of their showrooms, contact partners and philosophies. The print edition is sent to leading retailers, over 100 international fashion journalists and distributed to hot spots in the order locations Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich and at trade fairs in Milan and Paris. The internet version can be downloaded at www.fashion-square.net (> Business > THE GUIDE). Our homepage offers many additional sources of useful information for international buyers e.g. under THE NAMES. Over 2,200 top fashion brands are currently listed and constantly updated. It is a well-known fact that 60 % of all consumers download information from the internet before they actually purchase. This has motivated us to establish a SHOPFINDER specifically for top fashion: www.fashion-square.net/shopfinder Potential customers can now find information directly about special collections, new names and must haves and find out where they are sold without being distracted by a host of labels and “no names”. We offer this service free of charge to designers and manufacturers who are registered in the GUIDE as sales support for their distributors. The SHOPFINDER currently provides details about 8,000 distributors from 80 countries. Cordially, Your Hans-J. Ottimismo all’avanguardia.

  • Das Rheingau Musik Festival Präsentiert Das Chamber Orchestra of Europe Mit Der Nachwuchselite Der Kronberg Academy

Twenty-three distinctive pieces created during a period of six decades (1946-2007) are on show. The exhibition pays homage to one of the most significant artists of our time, reflecting thirty years of close collaboration between Galerie Karsten Greve and Louise Bourgeois. Following the artist’s first retrospective in Europe, shown at Frankfurter Kunstverein in 1989, Karsten Greve organized his first solo show of works by Louise Bourgeois in his recently opened Paris exhibition space in 1990. On the occasion of the opening of his gallery in St. Moritz in 1999, Karsten Greve dedicated a comprehensive show to the artist, followed by presentations in Paris and Cologne. Born in Paris in 1911, Louise Bourgeois grew up in a bourgeois family in Choisy-le-Roi near Paris, where her parents ran a workshop for restoring tapestries; at an early age, she made the drawings for missing sections in tapestry designs. After dropping out of mathematics at the Sorbonne, she completed her art studies, between 1932 and 1938, at the École des Beaux-Arts and selected studios and academies in Paris, taking lessons with Fernand Léger, among others. In 1938, she was married to Robert Goldwater, the American art historian, and went with him to New York.

Galerie Karsten Greve is delighted to show a solo exhibition featuring new work by Scottish artist Georgia Russell, who has been represented by the gallery since 2010. The show, which will be Georgia Russell's sixth solo exhibition with Galerie Karsten Greve, is a DC OPEN GALLERIES 2021 event. New works on canvas will be presented, created at her Méru studio between 2020 and 2021 during a worldwide state of crisis that was characterised by confinement and social distancing measures. By contrast, Georgia Russell has created her most recent works by breaking through matter. Her pieces epitomise the idea of the permeability of matter and breaking through the surface – ajouré – to bring this materiality to life by deliberately incorporating daylight and air into space. Born in Elgin, Scotland, in 1974, Georgia Russell, studied fine art at the Robert Gordons University of Aberdeen (until 1997) and the Royal College of Art, graduating with an MA in printmaking in 2000. Thanks to a scholarship from the Royal College of Art, the artist set up a studio in Paris. Her work has regularly been presented internationally in solo and group exhibitions. Works by Georgia Russell are also held in notable private and public collections, such as the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, the E.On Art Collection, Düsseldorf, and the Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern.

A Festival of Artistic Research (Graz, 5–7 October 2017) Artistic research is currently a much-talked about and highly innovative field of know- ledge creation which combines artistic with academic practice. One of its central features is ambitious artistic experiments exploring musical and other questions, systematically bringing them into dialogue with reflection, analysis and other academic approaches. ARTikulationen, a two-and-a-half day festival of artistic research that has been running under that name since 2016, organised by the Artistic Doctoral School (KWDS) of the Uni- versity of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG), expands the pioneering format deve- loped by Ulf Bästlein and Wolfgang Hattinger in 2010, in which the particular moment of artistic research – namely audible results, which come about through a dynamic between art and scholarship that is rooted in methodology – becomes something the audience can understand and experience. In Alfred Brendel, Georg Friedrich Haas and George Lewis, the festival brings three world- famous and influential personalities and thinkers from the world of music to Graz as key- note speakers. George Lewis will combine his lecture with a version of his piece for soloist and interactive grand piano. The presentations at ARTikulationen encompass many different formats such as keynotes, lecture recitals, guest talks, poster presentations and a round table on practices in artistic research.
