HOUSTON BASKETBALL HOUSTON POSTGAME NOTES (Jan HOUSTON BASKETBALL HOUSTON POSTGAME NOTES (Jan. 17, 2021) #11/11 Houston 75, UCF 58 TEAM NOTES • Houston’s all-time record is 1,320-864. • Houston’s starting lineup was DeJon Jarreau (53rd start of his career, 28th at Houston), Marcus Sasser (25th start of his career), Quentin Grimes (68th start of his career, 31st at Houston), Justin Gorham (22nd start of his career, 11th at Houston) and Brison Gresham (33rd start of his career, 22nd at Houston). • Houston leads the all-time series against UCF, 18-11, having won the last two matchups between the Knights. • Houston is 338-251 all-time in the month of January. • Houston is 15-2 all-time when competing as the No. 11 team in Associated Press poll. • Houston is 37-3 all-time inside the Fertitta Center, having won 18 consecutive games at its home venue. The Cougars have not lost in the Fertitta Center since a 72-71 buzzer-beating loss to BYU on Nov. 15, 2019. • Since the start of the 2015-16 season, the Cougars have posted a 83-11 (.882) record in their three different home venues. • Houston is 56-3 (.949) in home games since the start of the 2017-18 campaign. • Houston has more wins (137) than any other school in the state of Texas since 2015-16. • Houston moves into a tie for fourth with Villanova through Jan. 14, 2021 as the winningest Division I team since 2017-18 with 94 wins during that span. • Houston held the UCF to 58 points on Sunday. The Cougars have held its opponent to 60 or less points nine times this season and 65 points or less in ten of their 11 games. • Houston improves to 10-1 on the year when scoring first. • Houston improves to 7-0 on the year when leading at halftime. • Houston improves to 11-0 on the year when leading with 5:00 left in the game. • With Houston’s win, UCF extends its current four-game skid, which the Cougars started in their, 63-54, win against the Knights on Dec. 26, 2020 in Orlando. • Houston held the Knights to 19 points in the first half, the eighth time this season an opponent has scored 25 points or less in the first half. This was the least amount the Knights have scored in the first frame this season.. • All 11 Cougars that played, recorded points. It’s the third time this season, 11 Cougars that saw playing time scored. COACH KELVIN SAMPSON • Houston Head Coach Kelvin Sampson is 650-331 in his career. His record with the Cougars is 150-61. • With Houston’s win, Sampson moves to 41st in NCAA Division I history with 650 career victories, passing former Houston head coach Tom Penders. • Sampson is the program’s career leader in winning percentage at .711 (150-61). • Sampson holds a 121-22 record when leading at halftime while coaching at Houston. • Sampson is 9-4 all-time against UCF. INDIVIDUAL NOTES MARCUS SASSER • Has drained at least one three-pointer in all ten of his appearances this season. DeJON JARREAU • With two made threes tonight, Jarreau tied his Houston career-high for the second time. • Posted two steals against the Knights, tying his Houston career-high for the fifth time. QUENTIN GRIMES • Poured in 18 points, marking his 11th double figure performance this season, 28th at Houston and 45th in his career. • Has made a 3-point field goal in 14 consecutive games (dating to March 5, 2020), including all 12 games played this season. • Set a Houston career-high four steals. That mark matches his career-high that he set at Kansas. HOUSTON BASKETBALL HOUSTON POSTGAME NOTES (Jan. 17, 2021) #11/11 Houston 75, UCF 58 JUSTIN GORHAM • Following the game, was credited with a defensive rebound that was originally given to DeJon Jarreau around the 4:15 mark of the second half. • With defensive rebound addition, finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Was his team-leading fourth double-double of the season and his Houston career and the ninth of his collegiate career. • Was his fourth game this season with double-digit scoring, fifth at Houston, and 19th career. • Was his fourth straight game with double-digit rebounds. Became the first Cougar to grab 10+ rebounds in four consecutive games since TaShawn Thomas accomplished the feat during the 2012-13 season. Thomas started his streak with 10 rebounds against Rice in the Conference USA Championship First Round (March 13, 2013) and followed that with 11 rebounds vs. UTEP in C-USA Championship Quarterfinals (March 14, 2013), 10 rebounds vs. Texas in CBI First Round (March 20, 2013) and 17 rebounds at George Mason in the CBI Quarterfinals (March 25, 2013).
