  • Introduction to R&C Database Compilation & Index
Introduction to R&C Database Compilation & Index I have a long history and fondness for Rod & Custom magazine. This is the first magazine I purchased at age 10, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I often refer back to my collection, but find it hard to quickly lay my hands on a given article. This is for fellow HAMB members who share a love for this little magazine. This Index covers Rod & Custom Magazine from May 1953 through May 1974. I stopped at 1974 since R&C went out of print then. R&C was restarted in December 1988 and lasted until October 2014. This index is created for general reference, technical reference, research, tracing automobile histories, and genealogy. I have attempted to use a consistent categorization or article grouping scheme across all 20+ years, even though editors or previous compilations may not have used this convention. This index contains the following specific information: Title of each article along with a descriptive supplement such as club affiliation, noted customizers, past owners, professions, etc. The author’s and/or photographer’s name where space allowed. Featured vehicle year, make, model, & engine and/or engine displacement where available or where space allowed. Vehicle owner name, city and state. Where the country is other than the United States, I listed the country Product manufacturer name, city and state. Address may be included if space allowed. The month and page number of each feature article or photograph. The index is sorted by year, and a title at the top of each page indicates which year.

  • Periodicals by Title
I think this is now the largest list of books and magazines in the world on Motor Vehicles. I think I maybe the only person trying to find and document every Book and Magazine on Motor Vehicles. This is a 70+ year trip for me all over the world. Some people have called this an obsession, I call it my passion. This has been a hobby for me since I was about 10 years old. I don’t work on it everyday. I don’t do this for money. I don't have any financial help. I have no books or magazines for sale or trade. I do depend on other Book and Magazine collectors for information on titles I don’t have. Do you know of a Book, Magazine, Newsletter or Newspaper not on my list?? Is my information up to date?? If not can you help bring it up to date?? I depend on WORD-OF-MOUTH advertising so please tell your friends and anyone else that you think would have an interest in collecting books and magazines on motor vehicles. I am giving my Book and Magazine Lists to Richard Carroll to publish on his web - site at www.21speedwayshop.com take a look.. All I am collecting now is any issue of a title. If you are the first to send me a copy of a magazine I don’t have I will thank you with a mention under the title. Because of two strokes and a back injury from falling down the stairs this is about all I can do now.

  • Volkswagen Beetle History
Volkswagen Beetle History The very first Volkswagen type 1 ever produced. Volkswagen Beetle The Volkswagen Type 1 is an economy car produced by the German auto maker Volkswagen (VW) from 1938 until 2003. The car was originally known as Käfer, the German word for "beetle," from which the popular English nickname originates. It was not until August 1967 that the Volkswagen corporation itself began using the name Beetle in marketing materials in the US. 1933-1934 VW design drawings In Britain, VW never used the name Beetle officially. It had only been known as either the "Type I" or as the 1100, 1200, 1300, 1500, or 1600 which had been the names under which the vehicle was marketed in Europe; the numbers denoted the vehicle's approximate engine size in cubic centimetres. In 1998, many years after the original model had been dropped from the lineup in most of the world (production continued in Mexico until 2003), VW introduced the "New Beetle" (built on a Volkswagen Golf Mk4 platform) which bore a cosmetic resemblance to the original. 1934 VW Porsche-NSU Its peculiar styling, underpowered motor, rough ride, and high noise levels compared to modern vehicles might have made it a market failure. In its day, though, it was more comfortable and powerful than most European small cars, and ultimately the longest-running and most-produced automobile of a single design (a record that will not take long to be beaten by its younger "cousin" the Type-2 Bus or Kombi, which is still in production in Brazil, with the same basic characteristics of the first series).

  • Greetings to All Fellow MVVC'ers
Greetings to all fellow MVVC’ers. by Dan Peirce I hope you are all in good spirits with the good weather and that your enjoying your VW’s and having fine adventures with them. I am by nature a pretty upbeat guy and when things get bleak I generally double down, put my back into the issue and push harder till things work out. It is in my nature to do so. Most winters with my car Ally are spent pushing the envelope of its performance with updates to the engine, transmission, electrical, and suspension. Most years I jump hurdles and face the challenges presented by the modifications and by the time our Festival has arrived Ally is available for fun and games. This winter I upgraded the engine to accept a new fuel and spark man- agement system called mega squirt 3. This is a neat system in that you can configure it to run on almost anything from a lawn mower to a Ferrari. I wanted to delete the distributor and instead utilize a GM based LS-2 coil pack ignition sys- tem. I would reuse my CB performance throttle bodies but would upgrade the injectors so that I could run E85 fuel which is supposed to run cleaner, cooler, and have a higher-octane rating. Now I have grown up with carbs and points like most reading this article but I felt it was time to upgrade myself as well as Ally. The learning curve was steep so I enlisted the help of a young gentleman that has built and programmed these systems in the past with much success.
