Stonyhurst College is the UK’s leading Catholic co-educational boarding and day school for pupils aged 3-18. Boarding is from the age of 7.

At the College, there are approximately 500 pupils aged 13-18, two thirds of whom are boarders. At Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall, the adjacent dedicated preparatory school, there are around 300 pupils aged 3-13. Stonyhurst is set in stunning countryside, near the Ribble and Hodder rivers and the beautiful Trough of Bowland. Manchester is only about an hour away by road or rail. The market town of is four miles away, and we are twelve miles from the city of Preston. The Lake District can be reached in about an hour, and the Yorkshire Dales are even closer.

Stonyhurst has a fascinating heritage, being the oldest continuously active Jesuit school in the world. It was founded in St Omer, Northern (then the Spanish Netherlands) in 1593, and moved to its present site in ’s beautiful in 1794. Throughout the years of religious persecution in England, Stonyhurst educated the boys of the English Catholic aristocracy and gentry.

This year Stonyhurst celebrates 20 years of full co-education. Our roll is 50/50 boys and girls.

This is an additional role within our Admissions and Marketing Team, part of the External Affairs Department. The appointee will report to the Head of Admissions and Marketing and work alongside the current Marketing and Communications Officer primarily assisting with the planning and implementation of the marketing plan. The appointee will play a vital role in promoting both Stonyhurst College and Stonyhurst St Mary’s Hall to prospective parents and pupils.

The role

We are looking for a passionate and creative Marketing and Communications Officer to be based within a small creative team. The team manages all aspects of the Stonyhurst brand and image, developing marketing strategies, cultivating important relationships and is key to attracting potential pupils both in the UK and internationally. You will play an important part in working to position Stonyhurst as the leading Catholic independent boarding school in the UK.

This is a varied role and the ability to remain calm under pressure and prioritise your workload is crucial. You will take the lead on specific campaigns, from the initial brief through to delivery and evaluation. Responsibility for the day to day management of all social media, maintaining and updating the website and the production of digital newsletters lies within your remit.

This exciting and varied role is newly created and would be ideal for someone with a background in marketing and communications, preferably, although not essentially, in the education sector. The post-holder will be working with multiple stakeholders, both internally and externally, so excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a must, as well as a flexible approach to the role.

Candidate profile

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent and have at least three years in a marketing or communications role. You will possess strong IT skills and knowledge of design software such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, along with a flair for creativity and writing engaging content. Building and managing relationships is key to this role as you will work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders as well as key partner agencies. Candidate Information

Key responsibilities

• To support the Head of Admissions & Marketing, contributing to the department’s strategic aims • Lead on specific campaigns as agreed with the Head of Admissions & Marketing, from conception through to campaign delivery and evaluation • Produce digital newsletters for various audience groups on a weekly and termly basis • Contribute to the content planner, including updating the planner, building in key terms in-line with the SEO strategy and ensuring that the content is delivered • Day-to-day management of all social media channels including Stonyhurst Link • Website maintenance, including instigating a process to ensure that content is current and regularly refreshed and liaising cross-departmentally to facilitate it • Liaise with staff and other stakeholders to identify potential news stories for the website and PR opportunities • Day-to-day creation and publication of compelling PR stories across national, regional, educational and Catholic press • Involvement in the filming and photography of the school’s campus/events and editing of content to post externally on various media channels • Brand guardianship • Support in budget management • Track digital performance against an agreed set of KPI’s • Brief marketing collateral and managing the design process • Research competitor activity and best practice from both within and outside the sector • Work flexibly as is necessary within a small department • Comply with and promote the School’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures and maintain a safe environment for pupils, staff and visitors ensuring that reasonable care is taken at all times for the health, safety and welfare of yourself and others • To be familiar with relevant policies and procedures and to take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of the children and young people in School Candidate Information

A self-starter with a positive ‘can-do’ attitude with an ability to work on their own, using their initiative to work on concurrent projects and meet agreed deadlines.

Digital literacy - high level of competence in standard office software (word-processing, presentation and spreadsheet packages). Some experience in design software and film editing. A proven understanding and skilled user of social media platforms and their effective use in a marketing and communications strategy.

The ability to approach each task with flair, creativity, innovation and passion, providing guidance within your field of expertise, engaging, motivating and producing work to a consistently high standard. Candidate Information REMUNERATION AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

The salary will be in the region of £27,500 - £30,000 per annum dependent upon candidate skills and experience. A formal contract of employment will be drawn up on appointment.

Contract This is a permanent, whole year role.

Appointment date As soon as possible.

Hours of work Normal office hours are 37.5 hours a week but the Marketing and Communications Officer will be expected to work such hours as may reasonably be required to carry out the role. Flexible working will be expected on occasion.

Pension Scheme The School operates a money purchase pension scheme to which the employer contributes up to a maximum of 6% (matched to employee contributions).

Provision of meals Meals and refreshments are provided free of charge in the Refectory during working hours .

Sports Centre The College has a wide range of sporting facilities which are available for use by staff at subsidised rates and free access to the Swimming Pool.
