All members of the media will be provided with game notes, media guides, and other pertinent information. Abbreviated statistics will be available shortly after the conclusion of each contest. Wireless internet access, telephones and a fax machine will also be available to the media throughout the event. Basketball (Men’s and Women’s) The University of Detroit Mercy home basketball games are played at Calihan Hall. The 8,000+ seating arena is located on the McNichols Campus and media parking is available in the North lot with proper identification. Press row is located between the team benches on the east side of the arena. Sports Information Intern Mekye Phelps Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Fencing, Softball Larry Bleach Fitness Center The Larry Bleach Fitness Center is the fitness area for all 19 Varsity sports as well as for student usage in the evening hours. The strength staff continues to stay abreast of new training techniques and programs that will make the student-athlete more competitive. Recent renovations to the Larry Bleach Fitness center include the installation of a new interlocking floor system as well as the creation of another 400 square feet on the South side of the fitness center. The strength and conditioning program has also improved through the purchasing of four new Olympic platforms, three squat racks, auxillary speed equipment, as as well as the addition of ONS Performance nutritional shakes for all student-athletes. The Strength and Conditioning staff is composed of four individuals with the new addition of one intern for the 2008-09 academic year. The Director of the Strength and Conditioning is Joe Tofferi and he can be reached at 313.993.1719 for all inquiries related to fitness and well-being of all 250+ student-athletes. Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Room At the University of Detroit Mercy, the sports medicine staff is committed to providing the best care for all Titan student-athletes. Director of Sports Medicine and Head Athletic Trainer Michael Miller coordinates and oversees the sports medicine services provided to over 250 student-athletes. His staff includes two assistant directors as well as three graduate assistants. The sports medicine staff is responsible for assessing athletic injuries and illnesses, administering first aid and CPR care, making medical referrals, and preventing and rehabilitating athletic injuries that occur during the school year. The sports medicine department is under the guidance of Dr. Michael Workings, family practice physician from the Henry Ford Health System. Dr. Workings also acts as the Team Physician for the Detroit Tigers. The athletic training facility is located in the main level of Calihan Hall. The training facility is equipped with a taping and first aid station, treatment and modality tables, hydrotherapy whirlpools, rehabilatative modality equipment and a new cold compression unit. The goals of the University of Detroit Mercy Sports Medicine Department is to prevent athletic injuries as much as possibly through effective injury prevention programs, and to return injured athletes to their previous competitive status in the safest and quickest manner possible. From Northwest on M-10 Driving south on the Lodge Freeway, take the Livernois exit. At the traffic light, turn left onto Livernois and proceed three-quarters of a mile north to W. McNichols (third traffic light). Turn right on W. McNichols and the entrance is one- quarter of a mile on the right. From the North on I-75 Driving south on I-75, exit Eight Mile Road and turn right off the ramp. Take Eight Mile Road west and proceed 2.5 miles to Livernois. Turn left (south) onto Livernois and proceed 2.0 miles to W. McNichols. Turn left onto W. McNichols and entrance is one-quarter of a mile on the right.
