PAC-12 SOFTBALL CONTINUES NON-CONFERENCE DOMINANCE

With five teams ranked in the top 10 of both polls, two of which are still undefeated through week three, the Pac-12 has continued to dominate the diamond despite some tough losses ... ARIZONA STATE and UCLA have yet to suffer a loss this season, with both teams near the top of the polls as ASU came in at third and UCLA at fifth ... WASHINGTON was upset twice this past weekend, and as a result the Huskies have dropped to seventh in the rankings ... ARIZONA made another big jump after knocking off two higher-ranked opponents last weekend at the prestigious Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic ... OREGON continued its hot streak, winning 14-straight games after dropping the season opener ... PAC-12 ANNOUNCES SOFTBALL PLAYER AND PITCHER OF THE WEEK Mysha Sataraka voted Player of the Week Ally Carda named Pitcher of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - UCLA sophomore infielderMysha Sataraka and junior pitcher Ally Carda have been voted the Pac-12 Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for play from Feb. 17-23, the Conference office announced today.

Sataraka (Honolulu, Hawai’i) .500 with nine runs batted in at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic at Cathedral City, Calif., including a two-run, walk-off against No. 16 Missouri, as the eighth-ranked Bruins recorded a perfect 5-0 mark to improve to 16-0 on the season. The third baseman had seven hits in 14 at-bats, scoring five runs and drawing four walks. She drew a walk in the Bruins’ lone match on Friday versus No. 13 Oklahoma. After slamming the walk-off double to give UCLA the 4-3 walk-off victory over Mizzou, Sataraka had a career-high five RBI against Maryland, going 3-for-3 and falling a shy of hitting the cycle. On Sunday, she recorded hits in both games, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored against No. 11 Nebraska and recording a single, a walk and two runs versus New Mexico.

Carda (Elk Grove, Calif.) went 4-0 in the circle for the Bruins, including three wins against ranked teams (No. 13 Oklahoma, No. 16 Missouri and No. 11 Ne- braska). Carda had a 0.67 average, struck out 27 batters in 21 innings, allowing only two earned runs, 15 hits and six walks in her four games. She opened the weekend with a 10- performance against Oklahoma, her third double-figure strikeout game of the year. The junior came in against Missouri in relief, striking out five in three shutout innings to pick up another win, then started the second game of the day versus Maryland, going five innings and striking out five batters. On Sunday versus Nebraska, Carda had seven K’s in six innings, allowing two earned runs, four hits and one walk. The two earned runs were the first allowed by Carda in 43 1/3 innings. She leads the Bruins’ pitching staff with a 9-0 record and 68 with a 0.40 ERA.

It is the first-career weekly selection for both Sataraka and Carda. The two mark the 124th and 125th weekly accolade for UCLA all-time.

The undefeated Bruins head to Lakewood, Calif. to play in the Mayfair Invitational from Friday, Feb. 28 through Sunday, March 2. UCLA will open the tourna- ment against a ranked opponent in No. 6 Michigan before facing Long Beach State on Friday. The Bruins will play Louisville and Northwestern on Saturday, then close out the tournament against Illinois on Sunday.
