My husband at the time was in the United States Air Force, stationed at RAF Upper Heyford. We rented a flat in The Gate House for two years. At the time it was divided into nine flats and all but two were occupied by American GIs. Beatrice Hulme, who I understood had once owned the House, lived in the flat below us. It didn’t take long to fall in love with the village and its people.
