These new additions to the Department of Public Work’s fleet will support the City’s Single Stream Recycling program. The recycling imitative launched in August, 2015, has already shown Glen Cove’s commitment with recycling participation increasing by over 28% since the programs launch. “The City receives $5.05 per ton of recyclable materials collected through this program so the uptick in participation is going to result in cost savings for the City. The more our residents recycle with our “All In. One Bin” effort, the more money the City can save while reducing the waste sent to our landfills; now that’s what I call a win-win situation,” Mayor Spinello said.

Connolly School students laced up their sneakers and took strides to help fight breast cancer during the school’s sixth annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk-a-Thon on Oct. 15. At the event, students and faculty dressed were dressed in pink as they walked around the school building perimeter to show their support for the worthy cause. Connolly’s Student Council organized the walk with assistance from advisers Susan Stanco and Monique Vaccaro. The group created a banner that read “Connolly Cares” to mark the occasion. In all, the students raised $565 through pledges, which will be donated to Glen Cove C.A.R.E.S, a not-for-profit agency that provides assistance to residents of Glen Cove and neighboring communities coping with the crisis of cancer.
