The Letter Sent to Robert Jenrick MP THE RT HON MATT HANCOCK MP HOUSE OF COMMONS London SW1A 0AA The Rt Hon Robert Jenrick MP Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government 2 Marsham Street London SW1P 4DF 16 August 2021 Dear Robert, Thank you for setting out so clearly your proposals for the next stage of devolution in England, and for inviting local areas to respond with propositions of what will work in our area. We agree with you that devolution can help to fulfil our mission to serve our residents to the best of our abilities. Decisions taken more locally can better fit local circumstances, and deliver on the hopes and expectations of those we serve. Suffolk has demonstrated support for this approach at all levels, among our Councils, MPs, PCC, LEP, local NHS and other public services. As the Councils have said: “Suffolk has already demonstrated its credibility as a place where Government will find strong and ambitious delivery partners.” We agree. As Suffolk’s seven MPs we are therefore writing to wholeheartedly support the vision set out, collectively, by Suffolk County Council and all of Suffolk’s District and Borough Councils. We believe this unity of purpose behind taking the next step in devolution through a County Deal can not just help persuade you that we should be in the vanguard of the next stage of devolution, but also that Suffolk can use such a deal to deliver better services locally. This is not a recent or short lived view. For many years local leaders in Suffolk at all levels have worked more closely together, and have put forward constructive propositions for further improvements. We hope to work with you on your forthcoming White Paper to show that strong local leadership and strengthened local governance can deliver better. The Councils have set out the material factors which we hope you will consider for why Suffolk should be in the vanguard for the next stage of devolution. We believe a Suffolk County Deal would demonstrate the Government’s levelling up agenda extending to East Anglia by empowering our area. Of course there will be many details that will need to be worked through. We believe that these can be satisfactorily resolved because the strong support for the principle of a County Deal means we are confident for a successful outcome. We want to stress the very strong degree of support for such leadership, and our determination to work with you and all local partners on a strong, effective and ambitious County Deal. We would be grateful for the chance to meet you soon to discuss how we can best work with you, the Councils and others to take forward this proposal with enthusiasm and pace, so we can all deliver for the people of Suffolk. Given the recent significant investment in the town, we predict that over the next 2 years Government will want to showcase the projects. In local context, we need to emphasise that the two bridges being built in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft respectively, are not in competition but will work collaboratively, complimenting each Peter 2 other. This is significant investment in our region to improve transport links. As result, there is a Aldous MP wider local business and social benefit - work is being undertaken in terms of procurement through Meet the Buyer events.

  • A Guide to the Government for BIA Members
A guide to the Government for BIA members Correct as of 26 June 2020 This is a briefing for BIA members on the Government led by Boris Johnson and key ministerial appointments for our sector after the December 2019 General Election and February 2020 Cabinet reshuffle. Following the Conservative Party’s compelling victory, the Government now holds a majority of 80 seats in the House of Commons. The life sciences sector is high on the Government’s agenda and Boris Johnson has pledged to make the UK “the leading global hub for life sciences after Brexit”. With its strong majority, the Government has the power to enact the policies supportive of the sector in the Conservatives 2019 Manifesto. All in all, this indicates a positive outlook for life sciences during this Government’s tenure. LETTER BY OVER 100 RURAL BUSINESS OWNERS to PM & SECRETARIES OF STATE 25 September 2020 The letter below is also signed by a further four businesses, represented by seven individuals, who requested their names be withheld from publication. It was published in the East Anglian Daily Times https://www.eadt.co.uk/news/sizewell-c-construction-opposed-by-suffolk-businesses-2700468 To: The Rt Hon Boris Johnson MP, The Rt Hon Alok Sharma MP, The Rt Hon George Eustice MP, Minette Batters, President National Farmers’ Union Mark Bridgeman, President, Country Landowners’ Association Stephen Miles, President, Suffolk Agricultural Association cc Rt Hon Lord Goldsmith of Richmond Park, Victoria Prentis MP, Lord Gardiner of Kimble, The Rt Hon Therese Coffey MP, Dr Dan Poulter MP, Peter Aldous MP, The Rt Hon Matt Hancock MP, James Cartlidge MP, Jo Churchill MP, Tom Hunt MP Cllrs Matthew Hicks and Richard Rout, Suffolk County Council. Cllrs Steve Gallant and Craig Rivett, East Suffolk Council We the undersigned, as rural business owners, farmers and landowners in Suffolk, write to express our opposition to EDF’s plans to build two new nuclear reactors at Sizewell. The threat of Sizewell C has been hanging over the heads of many of our number for at least eight years now with no immediate end in sight. This would be tolerable if the Sizewell C project was for the “greater good” but we have concluded that it is not necessary to meet the UK’s commitment to net zero, and would be a slow, risky and expensive waste of taxpayers’ money that removes opportunities to make use of alternative, green, deliverable and cost-effective energy solutions.

This is something of concern across the House. It is Thursday 26 September 2019 not a party political matter and, certainly as far as I am concerned, it should not be in any way, at any time, to any degree a matter for partisan point scoring. It is The House met at half-past Nine o’clock about something bigger than an individual, an individual party or an individual political or ideological viewpoint. Let us treat of it on that basis. In the meantime, may I just ask colleagues—that is all I am doing and all I can PRAYERS do as your representative in the Chair—please to lower the decibel level and to try to treat each other as opponents, not as enemies? [MR SPEAKER in the Chair] Sir Peter Bottomley (Worthing West) (Con): On a point of order, Mr Speaker. Speaker’s Statement Mr Speaker: Order. I genuinely am not convinced, but I will take one point of order if the hon. Gentleman Mr Speaker: Before we get under way with today’s insists.
