Leisure Facilities Damaged by Super Typhoon Mangkhut in the Southern District

A total of 84 items of facilities in the Southern District of the LCSD were severely damaged during Typhoon Mangkhut. As at 3 July 2020, 78 items of facilities have been restored, the remaining recovery works are as follows:

Venue name Progress Turtle Cove Beach  Recovery works of railing was completed in late May 2020.

Hairpin Beach  The recovery works of the damaged BBQ pits will be (beach is not open for swimming) commenced once HAD has completed the repair works of the path between and .  Recovery works of the damaged access will be commenced (beach is not open for swimming) after clean up of collapsed structures is completed. Stanley Main Beach Water  Recovery works of outdoor boat shed is expected to be Sports Centre completed in July 2020. Headland Picnic Area  The works department has submitted a preliminary reconstruction scheme and project estimate for the damaged bridge leading to Tai Tau Chau (“Lovers’ Bridge”). LCSD is now following up with works department for details and arrangement of the scheme. The project was published in the Gazette under the Foreshore and Sea-bed (Reclamations) Ordinance (Cap. 127) on 13 March 2020 to reinstate the original appearance of the "Blue Bridge" under technical feasibility. The proposed project is expected to commence in the second half of this year and to be completed in 2021. Aberdeen Promenade  Repair works of 3 nos. of park lights is expected to be completed in July 2020.  Repair works of damaged pavilion cover is expected to be Children’s Playground completed in July 2020.
