Why the Bahamas? Why The Bahamas? As a country made up exclusively of islands, cays and coral reefs, this unique archipelago covers an area of 250 000 km2 in the Atlantic ocean stretching from the shores of Florida and Cuba. The Bahamas are made up of 16 main islands that represent a large and unique region; each island has its own particularity and identity. The most visited and populated islands are Nassau/Paradise Island and Grand Bahama Island. Both offer the largest selections in terms of accommodation, facilities and services. The others, less famous but more authentic and preserved, are: The Abacos, Andros, The Berry Islands, Bimini, Cat Island, Eleuthera/Harbour Island, The Exumas, Long Island, Inagua, Rum Cay, San Salvador, Mayaguana, Acklins/Crooked Islands and Ragged Island. The unique charm and character of The Bahamas come mostly from the beauty of the waters and the wonders of the underwater world. The subtle variations of blue and green are found around the islands: green crystalline waters in Grand Bahama Island; deep blue in the Exuma Sound. These waters and their natural treasures are ideal for seekers of aquatic adventures. Any dream is possible: from the tranquillity of the long secluded beach to the rhythm of the local festivals.
