The Online Welsh Rugby Championship Has Been Devised and Created by All Wales Sport Ltd The Online Welsh Rugby Championship has been devised and created by All Wales Sport Ltd. The Online Welsh Rugby Championship - Bowl Final Preview by Ian Davies - chief Rugby writer Grand Finals Day gets underway at 6pm on Wednesday, 21 October with the Bowl Final between Rhydyfelin and Tycroes. Up for grabs is £100 for the winners and £50 for the losing finalist. It has been a strange online tournament for Rhydyfelin, who were formed in 1905 and last tasted success when crowned WRU Division 1 East champions in 2016-17. Rhydyfelin were also Championship play-off winners and Glamorgan County Silver Ball winners in the same season. In season 2017-18, the Rhydyfelin 2nd team were the Rhondda and East Glamorgan Division 2 winners and also captured the Mel Davies Cup. Rhydyfelin Youth were the Blues Division BB champions in 2007 and beaten finalists in the WRU Plate competition in 2015-16. President of Rhydyfelin RFC is Tommy David, a former dual-code international rugby union and rugby league giant. He was selected for the 1974 British Lions tour to South Africa and was part of the 1976 Grand Slam winning Wales team. After a process lasting over 50 years, opponents Tycroes were finally accepted as members of the WRU in 1990. Few of the players who had first hoped for membership in 1936 were alive to see their dream fulfilled. Tycroes lifted their first trophy in 1919, the Amman Valley League Cup, but their most successful period was in the 1950's when winning the Llanelli and District Championship Shield twice, plus the Lady Howard Cup in 1955. In the last decade 2011-12 and 2016-17 were promotion years in the WRU National Leagues for Tycroes, who were also crowned SWALEC Division 4 West champions in 2012-13. Member Profile – David Pringle Club Captain for 3 Seasons 1973-74 to 1975-76, Club President 1988-90. Club County Rep, County Player, County Selector, County President 2014-15. (1st XV Caps – 332, County Caps – approx. 30, Carded as a non-travelling reserve for England, 1973, versus All Blacks, Wales, and Ireland) Education Tritlington C of E Primary School – Friends School. Brookfield Wigton, where I was introduced to rugby and finally settled as a scrum half and represented Cumbria at Under 15 level playing against Northumberland, among others. Left school after O Levels in 1959. Employment Returned to work for parents on home farm; Peigh Hills. They also rented Bellion Farm at Netherwitton which became our residence after marriage in 1970. Became independent by splitting from family partnership and moved to South Healey Farm, Netherwitton. Retired to Longhorsley, due to ill health in 2002. Favourite Music Always enjoy Country and Western, The Carpenters and nothing too highbrow. Favourite Films Saw many good action films on “leave out” of boarding school. The Guns of Naverone sticks in my mind. If I were not a flanker I suppose I have answered that by switching. Started as a scrum half and finished there. Most difficult opponents Two come to mind immediately – Andy Ripley (Rosslyn Park) and Dave Hoyland (Morley) – I have vivid memories of being swatted like a fly whilst trying to stop him scoring in the Northern Sevens. Phil Horrocks-Taylor and Mike Weston’s side steps were also troublesome. Favourite Players (in the same team) There were many as I was privileged to play in several invitation games which included – Phil Bennett, J.J.

This is a tremendous milestone and I pay tribute to players, staff and supporters both past and present for all that has been achieved over the decades. during my time as Chief executive of Taff ely Borough Coun - cil I had great pleasure in watching the famous “Black Army” for myself and know the pride and passion in which they play. I have been closely involved with welsh rugby as a player, an administrator and a passionate fan so I was incredibly pleased to have been elected President of the welsh Rugby Union. I pledged to use my time in this major ambassadorial role to spread the word far and wide about this great sport of ours and its important place in the hearts and minds of the people of wales. However, wherever I go I make it clear that there’s no future for welsh Rugby unless the grass roots remain strong.
