Think 53: Food Talks Dan Jurafsky & Yoshiko Matsumoto Sound Symbolism and Synesthesia (and Wheat Thins and Rocky Road) Thursday, April 13, 2017 Conventionalism vs. Naturalism Conventionalism: What’s in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet Naturalism: There is an inherently correct name for everything for both “Greeks and barbarians.” Plato, Cratylus John Locke 1632-1704 “Thus we may conceive how words, which were by nature so well adapted to that purpose, came to be made use of by men as the signs of their ideas; not by any natural connection that there is between particular articulate sounds and certain ideas, for then there would be but one language amongst all men; but by a voluntary imposition, whereby such a word is made arbitrarily the mark of such an idea.” Of the Signification of Words Book 3 Chapter II Xúnzi 荀子 Written by Xún Kuàng荀況 Confucian scholar, 3rd century BCE “Names have no intrinsic appropriateness. One agrees to use a certain name and issues an order to that effect, and if the agreement is abided by and becomes a matter of custom, then the name may be said to be appropriate… Names have no intrinsic reality.” What could Naturalism Mean? Now the letter r, as I was saying, appeared to the imposer of names an excellent instrument for the expression of motion; and he frequently uses the letter for this purpose: for example, in the actual words rein and roe he represents motion by r; also in the words tromos (trembling), trachus (rugged); and again, in words

As everyone is saying on the internet the crackers are not the same. Most successfully good tasting frozen pizza? You all make a great cracker. • The Truefood Guide Is Your Shopping List for Healthy, GE-Free Food
The Truefood Guide is your shopping list for healthy, GE-free food Australia has very limited laws for the labelling of genetically engineered (GE) foods. That’s where the Truefood Guide comes in. The Guide rates food brands and products as Green (GE-free) or Red (may contain GE ingredients). ✔ Buy Green Brands and products in the green section have policies and procedures throughout their supply chain to actively avoid ingredients derived from GE crops. ✘ Avoid Red Brands and products in the red section of the Guide may contain ingredients derived from GE crops. GE crops were introduced in Australia in 2008. GE canola is now commercially grown in NSW and Victoria. Canola is found in many pantry foods from margarine and vegetable oil, to ice-cream, breads and sauces. Ingredients derived from soy, maize and cottonseed are also in many food products in Australia. Most Australians do not want to eat GE food. Many food companies are responding to consumer demands by removing GE ingredients from their products. You can help by asking copanies with red-listed brands to adopt a non-GE policy. • The World Health Organization Is Taking Cash Handouts from Junk Food Giants by Vigilant Citizen October 23, 2012
The World Health Organization is Taking Cash Handouts from Junk Food Giants By Vigilant Citizen October 23, 2012 The World Health Organization (WHO) is the United Nationʼs “public health” arm and has 194 member states. While its official mission is “the attainment by all people of the highest possible level of health“, it is also clear that it works according to a specific agenda, one that laid out by the world elite and the organizations that are part of it. In the article entitled ‘Contagionʼ or How Disaster Movies “Educate” the Masses, weʼve seen how the WHO was involved in the promotion of mass vaccination campaigns following (bogus) disease scares, of civilian camps, of the bar-coding of individuals and so forth. More proof of the WHOʼs “elite bias” has been recently uncovered by a study: The organization has been taking hundreds of thousands of dollars from the worldʼs biggest pushers of unhealthy foods such as Coca-Cola, Nestlé and Unilever. It is relying on these companies for advice on how to fight obesity..é which is the equivalent of asking a drug dealer for advice on how stay off drugs and NOT buy his product. Coca-Cola, Nestlé and Unilever are not simply “food companies, they are gigantic conglomerates that produce and distribute an enormous proportion of processed foods across the world. In the article entitled Irrational Consumerism (or The Few Companies Who Feed the World), I described how only a few mega-conglomerates own most of the worldʼs brands of processed foods. To refresh your memory here are some of the brands
