Newfound Water Quality Sampling: • In Lake Sampling – 8 Historic Sampling locations – Initial Sampling in 1986 – Standard Measurements include: Total Phosphorus, Chlorophyll and Secchi Disk Transparency – Determine long‐term trends, identify threats to the lake – Near‐Shore sampling and periphyton sampling to screen for “hot” spots. • Headwater Tributary Sampling – Expansion of 2006‐2007 Water/Nutrient Budget – 6 Major Sub‐watersheds sampled: Black Brook, Cockermouth , Dick Brown Brook, Georges Brook, Fowler River and Whittemore Brook – Emphasis on the collection of Total Phosphorus, Turbidity and Specific Conductivity data.

Summary: • Overall in‐lake water quality is excellent while localized water quality variations are evident. • Threats exist • Long‐term trend of increasing chlorophyll and decreasing Secchi Disk transparency at 2 Mayhew and Site 3 Pasquaney Bay • Major water quality fluctuations have been associated with episodic precipitation events. • Phosphorus tends to enter the lake in a particulate form based historical data.
