SUPPLEMENTAL SUMMER READING

Students in all grades are strongly encouraged to participate in an additional reading program this summer. Books read for your school summer reading requirements (for students entering 2nd-4th grades) may also count toward books read in connection with one of the programs listed below. Please check with your local library for specific information on these programs. Each student who presents his/her “participation certificate” in August will receive a designated Jeans Day. Listed below are several reading programs for you and your child to choose from:

 Fort Bend County Libraries will have a similar program this year as in years past. The library rewards readers with a variety of awards based on the number of books read. https://www.fortbend.lib.tx.us/

 Harris County Public Libraries has a summer reading program open to all residents in the state of . You may sign up in person or online. Readers earn points for reading books and other fun activities including coding. Various prizes are awarded based on point levels and age groups. http://kids.hcpl.net/

Public Libraries will have a similar program this year as in years past. Students receive a free book and lanyard for registering and can earn more free books and pins to put on the lanyard. Additional prizes for different levels achieved include certificates, trophies, food coupons, and free tickets to events. Fort Bend County residents are allowed to apply for library cards (called the MY Link) at any Houston branch, including Alief. http://houstonlibrary.org/summer

 BookAdventures.com is a free online reading program for K-5th grades. Children create their own book lists from over 6000 titles. This program is very similar to our Accelerated Reader program. K-2nd has five content questions and 3rd-4th have ten content questions per book. http://bookadventure.com/
