List of Joint Military Exercises of India 2020-21 www.gradeup.co List of Joint Military Exercises of India 2020-21 Name of Exercise Few Points to Remember • 30th edition of India-Thailand Coordinated Patrol (Indo-Thai CORPAT) conducted between the Indian Navy and Royal Navy. • It was carried out between 18th -20th Nov 2020. Indo–Thai CORPAT • The CORPAT is genuinely reflective of the strong desire for the peaceful Indian Ocean safeguarded through good maritime order in the region. • SITMEX-20 is a 2-day maritime drill between India-Singapore- Thailand. The exercise aims to strengthen relations amongst the three nations. • It emphasizes to enhance interoperability, strengthen mutual trust, and build greater synergy to address shared maritime concerns among both navies. SITMEX 2020 • It was the trilateral naval exercise involving India, Singapore and Thailand commenced in the Andaman Sea. • The multi-faceted maritime operations aimed to consolidate interoperability between the three navies. Also, enhance understanding and sharing best practices. • Joint military exercise between India and Thailand. • India and Thailand conducted the military exercise from 16-29 September at Foreign Training Node, Umroi, in Meghalaya • The contingents of the Indian Army and Royal Thailand Army MAITREE-2020 (RTA) comprising of 50 soldiers each will participate in the exercise. Note: There is no record of conducting the exercise in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic • It is a Joint Military Exercise between the Indian and US Army conducted on 8th February 2020. • ‘Yudh Abhyas-20’ held at the Mahajan Field Range. • The 16th edition of the joint exercise. • Aim: it began on the counter-terrorism operations under the mandate of the United Nations. Yudh Abhyas 2020 • It emphasises on: • Subject matter exchange of the tropical issues of contemporary significance • Drills at the tactical level and sharing of best practices • Strengthening the capabilities of joint operations by both armies • The first-ever tri-service joint exercise between India and the United States. • The exercise is being conducted from 13th-21st November 2019. • The exercise will be conducted off Visakhapatnam and Kakinada Tiger Triumph coasts in Andhra Pradesh • It aims to develop interoperability for conducting HADR operations. www.gradeup.co Note: No record of Tiger Triumph conduction in 2020 amid the pandemic • Maritime exercise between India, Japan, and the United States. • It is the 23rd edition of the Trilateral Maritime Exercise MALABAR. • It is a bilateral exercise began in 1992. In 2020, it was conducted in Malabar 2020 the northern Arabian Sea from 17th to 20th November 2020. • Then it got permanently expanded into a trilateral format with the inclusion of Japan in 2015. • It is a trilateral naval exercise- Japan, the United States and India as permanent partners. • First counter-terrorism exercise for "Quad" countries (U.S., India, Counter-Terrorism Japan, and Australia). Between November 21, 2019, and November Table-Top Exercise 22, 2019. (CT-TTX) Note: No record of Tiger Triumph conduction in 2020 amid the pandemic • Part of the Russian Armed Forces' annual training cycle. • Along with Russia, military contingents from China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Pakistan, and Uzbekistan will take part. • The exercise aims at evolving drills of the participating armies and practising them in the fight against international terrorism, thereby TSENTR 2019 ensuring military security in the strategic Central Asian region. • It will comprise two modules. • The first module will include counter-terror operations, repelling airstrikes, reconnaissance operations, and defensive measures, while the second will focus on offensive operations. Note: No record of its conduction in 2020. • India-Mongolian joint military training exercise. • The 14th edition of India-Mongolia joint military exercise is being held from 5th to October 18, in 2019 at Bakloh, Himachal Pradesh. • The Mongolian ArmyArmy is being represented by officers and troops of the elite 084 Airborne-Special Task Battalion while Indian ArmyArmy is being represented by a battalion of the Nomadic Elephant RAJPUTANA RIFLES Regiment • It evolves various tactical drills in counter-terror environments such as Convoy Protection Drill, Room Intervention Drills, Ambush & Counter Ambush Drills. Note: No record of it being conducted in 2020. • The second BIMSTEC Disaster Management Exercise is a three- day exercise • It was attended by five out of seven member countries of BIMSTEC • The objective of the exercise is to discuss, standardization of BIMSTEC-DMEx protocol, formulation of policy and guidelines for the protection of 2020 heritage sites during a disaster and their conservation post-disaster www.gradeup.co • National Disaster Response Force Hosted BIMSTEC-DMEx 2020. • The Exercise was conducted on 11th February 2020 at Bhubaneswar. • Biennial exercise between armies of India and France. • The edition will be conducted from October 31, 2019, to November 13, 2019, in Rajasthan, India. • The exercise aims at enhancing understanding, cooperation, and interoperability between the two Armies. Exercise SHAKTI • The exercise will focus on Counter-Terrorism operations in a semi- desert terrain under United Nations Mandate. • The exercise will also have a 36 hours long validation, which involves neutralisation of terrorists in the village hideout. Note: No record of it being held in 2020. • Exercise between Indian and French Air Force. • It was hosted by French Air Force (FAF) from 01 to July 12 19 at Mont-de-Marsan France, was successfully completed. • The participating aircraft included four Su-30 MKI fighters besides one IL-78 and two C-17 aircraft. • It fosters a closer relationship between India and France so as to Exercise Garuda-VI promote interoperability through the exchange of knowledge and experience. • It was unique, fascinating, and timeless learning at the exercise for the IAF contingent. Note: No record of it being held in 2020. • Joint military exercise between India- Nepal. • It is conducted in Nepal from 3rd- 16th December 2019. Exercise Surya • The 13th edition of the exercise was held in Uttarakhand, India. Kiran- XIV Note: No record of it being held in 2020. • Joint military exercise between India-Sri Lanka. • The 7th edition of India-Sri Lanka joint military training exercise Mitra Shakti– 2019 was conducted in Pune from December 1, 2019, to December 14, 2019. • The exercise aims to build and promote positive relations between armies of India and Sri Lanka for counter-insurgency & counter- Exercise Mitra terrorism operations in the urban and rural environment under the Shakti-VII United Nations mandate. • The Mitra Shakti exercise began in 2013 • The exercise is conducted annually as a part of military diplomacy and interaction between the armies of India and Sri Lanka. Note: No record of it being held in 2020. SLINEX 2019 • Maritime exercise between India and Sri Lanka. www.gradeup.co • It commenced on September 7, 2019, and will go on till September 14. • Sri Lankan Navy has sent two offshore patrol vessels, namely SLNS Sindurala and SLNS Suranimala, to India to participate in the seventh annual Joint Indo-Lanka Maritime Fleet Exercise- SLINEX 2019.The 8th edition of the annual India-Sri Lanka bilateral naval exercise held at Trincomalee, Sri Lanka from 19-20th October 2020. • Military exercise between India and Bangladesh. Exercise SAMPRITI- • SAMPRITI-IX held in between India and Bangladesh at Umroi, IX Meghalaya from 3rd-16th Feb 2020. • Joint maritime exercise between the navies of India and Qatar. • It was being conducted between November 17 and November 21, 2019. Exercise Za'ir-Al- • It was held for the first time. The exercise will include Air defence, Bahr Surface action, interdiction operation, maritime surveillance, and anti-terrorism. Note: No record of it being conducted in 2020. • It is a first-ever joint military exercise between India and Uzbekistan. • The exercise will be held at Chirchiq Training Area, Uzbekistan, Dustlik-2019 between November 4 and November 13, 2019. From India, a 45- member contingent has been trained for this. Note: No record of it being conducted in 2020. • Military exercise between India and China. • The 8th India-China joint training exercise Hand-In-Hand 2019 is being conducted at Umroi, Meghalaya, from 7 to December 20, Hand in Hand 2019. Note: No record of it being conducted in 2020. • Joint Tri-Services Exercise between India and Russia. • It was conducted in India from 10th-19th December 2019 simultaneously at Babina (near Jhansi), Pune, and Goa. Indra Navy • In the year 2020, the biennial maritime exercise held between the Indian Navy and Russian Navy on 4th to 5th Sep in the Bay of Bengal. • The exercise was conducted between the Indian Air Force and Royal Air Force of the United Kingdom. Exercise • The 5th edition of India-UK joint Air Force Exercise Indradhanush - V ‘Indradhanush' began at Air Force Station, Hindan (Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh) on February 24, 2020. • Joint Military Exercise between India and the United Kingdom. It was conducted at Salisbury Plains, the United Ajeya Warrior-2020 Kingdom from 13th-26th February 2020. IndSpaceEx • India's first-ever simulated space warfare exercise. Note: No record of it being held in 2020. • Multilateral naval exercise hosted by the Indian navy. • MILAN (11th edition) was held in Visakhapatnam from 18th - 28th March 2020. MILAN 2020 • More than 40 countries were expected to participate in the exercise in 2020. • Conducted by the Indian Army to test offensive capabilities against China in Arunachal Pradesh. Operation Him • The first phase was held between October 7 and October 10, 2019. Vijaya The second phase was held between October 20 and October 24, 2019. • The exercise is conducted between the Indian Air force and Exercise Eastern Royal Air force of Oman Bridge • The Joint exercise was held in Oman .

Participating teams from India: o Indian Naval ships Jalashwa, Airavat and Sandhayak o Indian Army troops from 19 Madras and 7 Guards o Indian Air Force MI-17 helicopters and Rapid Action Medical Team (RAMT) Participating teams from the USA: o US Navy Ship Germantown o Troops from US Third Marine Division It is an exercise carried out on the Eastern coast of India starting with the Harbour Phase at Visakhapatnam. Personnel from both navies would participate in training visits, subject matter expert exchanges, sports events and social interactions. After this phase, the ships, with troops embarked, would sail for the Sea Phase and undertake maritime, amphibious and HADR operations. On reaching the HADR area at Kakinada, the landing of Relief Forces would be undertaken to the Exercise scenario. At the HADR Exercise Area, a Joint Command and Control Centre would be established jointly by the Indian Army and US Marines.
