The connections of star filly Crys Dream San Pail Aiming For Nat Ray (Taurus Dream) have decided to go in the Hambletonian Oaks instead of the Hambletonian. By Bill Finley Whether or Coming off a resounding not Blue win in the Maple Leaf Trot, a Porsche race he has now won three (Glidemaster) straight years, San Pail will compete in (San Pellegrino) is ready to the make a rare trip south of the Hambletonian border. Crys Dream is Oaks bound (New Image Burgess reports Because San Pail is not a good shipper, Hughes has Media) he will not largely campaigned him in Canada. He has not race in the make a decision until the very last second. U.S. since the 2009 Nat Ray, where he finished Believing their filly could compete with anyone, the Crys (continued, page 2) Dream team had been mulling a start in the Hambletonian but ultimately decided that it would be too much to ask considering that she has not race in over a month. Crys Dream last competed in the June 18 Elegant Image at Mohawk. Following that race she tested positive for an anti-depressant known as Desvenlafaxine, which resulted in a 90-day suspension by the Ontario Racing Commis- sion. The ownership group, adamant that the filly was not drugged, won a stay from a New Jersey court last week that will allow Crys Dream to compete in the Garden State for the foreseeable future. “Had we not had this problem she would have had four races in a row and we would have been more comfortable about her state of preparedness for the Hambletonian,” co- owner Mike Gulotta said. “Now, we’ve missed all these races. We would have liked the option (to go in the Hambletonian) and we were essentially forced into this decision because of the fact she was not given the proper opportunity to prepare. We’re upset about that.” When asked if Crys Dream may take on males in an- other race, Gulotta replied: “The Hambletonian is the place where you would want to demonstrate her ability. There may or may not be other opportunities in the future but they won’t compare to the Hambletonian. She’s never going to have a chance because of what has happened to be the next Continental Victory or Duenna. Those are the cards we were dealt.” Blue Porsche has also been inactive of late, missing recent races after spiking a temperature. He last raced in HarnessRacingUpdate.com • 7/26/11 PAGE 2 of 7 fourth. “I think he has matured a lot this year and I am hoping he has as far as trucking goes,” Hughes said. “Not that he has ever been terrible, but you hate to truck him a long distance like that and have him get off his feed and just go somewhere for the sake of getting beat up. But we will go to the Nat Ray and see how he handles the trucking.” Hughes knows he has something to prove with a win outside Canada. “I think it would ne nice to get a win down there and show everybody that he’s good enough,” he said. “I know he gets criticized and people say he’s only good in Can- ada. But they’ve come up here three times for the Maple Leaf and we’ve been them three times in a row. “I don’t see why he wouldn’t like the Meadowlands track. There’s lots of room; it’s bigger than the tracks here, so I can’t use that as an excuse. I hope we go down there and we have a positive outcome.” Cane Pace To Tioga For 2011, 2012 (Tioga Downs press release) The Cane Pace, set for Saturday, Sept. 3, has been moved from Freehold Raceway to Tioga Downs.
