Yadgiri is located at the heart of the Deccan plateau, and it has spread in the north east part of the State and Falls within the geographical Region of northern maiden. It lies between the 16º 20' and 17º 46' of north latitude and east longitude. Further it has extended between the 76º 4' and 7º 42' longitude. Yadgiri city is located 693 mtr high above the sea level. Yadgiri is bonded by Kalburgi district of Karnataka state on North side. Raichur district of Karnataka on the South side, Bijapur district of Karnataka state on the West side and Mahaboob Nagar district of telangana on the East side. Historical Background of Yadgiri Yadgiri has a strong historical Background from 6th century AD there were various dyanasties ruled like Rashtrakhutas, Chalukyas, Kalachuries, and devagiries. In the end of the 12th century Devagiries yadavas were ruling.Hence Yadgiri was called earlier as a ‘Yadhavagiri’ which means ‘Hill of Yadhavas’, Giri of Kannada word means Hill. This Hill we can find at the Centre of the city. The city has surrounded to the Hill which is having 600 feet of height from the surface of the Land. It is just like the nose of a face. Later on it became Yadgiri instead of Yadhavagiri. Before Independence of India this Yadgiri was under control by the Hydrabad Nizam. After Independence, during the unification of Karnataka this Yadgiri became the part of Mysore state in 1956. Now, it is the 30th new district Headquarter of Karnataka state. This, Yadgiri comes under the Hydrabad Karnataka Region which is a Backward in Economically, Occupationally and Educationally. xiv Government Degree College, Yadgiri NAAC SSR Cycle-II The Yadgiri Taluka is having 152 villages its Average Literacy is 49% (Over all Urban and Rural Literacy). Its population is 398359 as per 2011 censes. Out of which 199661 is female population and 198698 is male population. Further, Yadgiri rural population is 298019 and urban population was 100340 as per 2011 censes. Yadgiri district holds 3 Talukas which are Shahapur, Shorapur and Yadgiri Taluka. Yadgiri got a good Road and Railway Transport towards Banglore, Chennai, Bombay, Hubbally, Hyderabad and other deferent parts of the country. Yadgiri is having 2-Govt. Degree Colleges. One is ours Govt. Degree College Yadgiri which is having co-Education system another is Govt. First Grade College for Women. The Govt. Degree College Yadgiri was established in the year 1979. Our College building is in T-shape model in 12.6 acres of land, it is a Three Store Building which is 14000 sq.ft plinth area with 35 rooms including Principal chamber administrative Office, Library Hall and Function Hall. Our College Holds 5 under Graduate courses like BA, B.Com., B.Sc., BBM and BCA with good combination of Subjects.

    11.13 KARNATAKA 11.13.1 Introduction Karnataka, the seventh largest State of the country, with a geographical area of 1,91,791 sq km accounts for 5.83% of the geographical area of the country. The State is located in the south western region of India and lies between 11°30' N to 18°30' N latitudes and 74°00' E to 78°30' E longitudes and is bordered by Maharashtra and Goa in the North, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the east, Kerala & Tamil Nadu on the South and the Arabian Sea on the West. The State can be divided into two distinct physiographic regions viz the 'Malnad' or hilly region comprising Western Ghats and 'Maidan' or plain region comprising the inland plateau of varying heights. The average annual rainfall varies from 2,000 mm to 3,200 mm and the average annual temperature between 25°C and 35°C. The Western Ghats, which has an exceptionally high level of biological diversity and endemism, covers about 60% of forest area of the State. East flowing rivers in Karnataka mainly Cauvery & Krishna along with its tributaries drain into Bay of Bengal and west flowing rivers mainly Sharavathi & Kali drain into Arabian Sea. The State has 30 districts, amongst which 5 are tribal and 6 are hill districts. As per the 2011 census, Karnataka has a population of 61.13 million, which is 5.05% of India's population. The rural and urban populations constitute 61.43% and 38.57% respectively. Tribal population is 6.96% of the State's population.
