Iona College Athletics 2010-11 Annual Report Dear Friends of Iona Athletics,

On behalf of the Athletics Department, I want to thank you for your continued support of the Gaels. Our school motto, “Certa Bonum Certamen” (fight the good fight), guides our student-athletes to give it their best on the fields of competition and in the classroom. We are proud to have our student-athletes represent the mission, tradition, and goals of excellence that Iona is built upon. With the continued philanthropy of many, the Iona Athletics Department is able to give these student-athletes the means to fight and achieve excellence. While we are constantly working to keep moving forward, I would like to take this opportunity to look back at the past year.

The following Annual Report serves to review the many successes achieved during the 2010-11 athletic seasons here at Iona College. Below I’ve recapped a few of our many remarkable achievements.

• For the first time in school history, Iona tied for the MAAC Commissioner’s Cup, the highest honor in the conference. Additionally the Gaels won the Men’s Cup for the third time in school history, and tied for second place in the Women’s Cup. • Junior Leonard Korir became the first national champion in Iona history with a win in the 5k at the NCAA Indoor Track Championships. The Gaels then raced to an eighth place finish at the 2010 NCAA Championship at the LaVern Gibson Championship XC Course, the program’s ninth straight Top 10 finish at the national championship as the program remains one of two in NCAA Div. I to accomplish the feat. • The women’s cross country team continued building a tradition of excellence, winning its sixth consecutive MAAC Championship. • Last year’s team earned fourth place in the MAAC regular season. After falling in their opening contest at the MAAC Championship, the Gaels won four elimination games to claim the 2011 crown. The team then earned the program’s second consecutive bid to the NCAA Regionals held in Norman, Oklahoma. • On the court, our men’s program posted a 25-12 record, the 15th 20+ win season in school history. The Gaels took second at the MAAC Championship before earning a berth in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. • Academic honors were also numerous this past year, as 112 student-athletes were named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll.

Please join me as we look back at the accomplishments of the 2010-11 year, made possible by your support. Thank you once again for helping our student-athletes and all those involved in Iona College Athletics fight het good fight and write new chapters in the history of Iona College!
