Che Guevara RESUMO A alteração antrópica mais comum na região amazônica é o desmatamento que provoca prejuízos aos ecossistemas aquáticos, tornando-os cada vez mais vulneráveis a diferentes distúrbios. Por consequência, isso causa efeitos negativos à biodiversidade através de mudanças na cadeia trófica e na composição de espécies aquáticas. Dessa forma, este estudo objetivou avaliar quais variáveis ambientais e escalas espaciais possuem maior influência sobre a diversidade das assembleias de peixes de riachos na Amazônia Oriental. A área de estudo localiza-se na Bacia do Rio Capim, que possui um gradiente de degradação da cobertura vegetal resultante de atividades antrópicas. As variáveis ambientais locais foram obtidas no período de estiagem, entre agosto e setembro dos anos de 2014 e 2015, em 20 trechos de riachos. As variáveis da paisagem foram obtidas para o mesmo período através de imagens do satélite RapidEye previamente processadas para posterior classificação dos usos e coberturas de terra, sendo identificados em quatro diferentes escalas espaciais (buffer de 50m, buffer de 100, buffer de 200m e microbacia total). Com os resultados do modelo DistLm pode-se inferir que as variáveis índice de proximidade de impacto total, profundidade do talvegue, presença de solo exposto, tamanho de substrato, % de pasto e % de solo exposto foram responsáveis pelas diferenças na abundância de espécies. A proporção de solo exposto na microbacia total foi negativamente relacionada com riqueza de espécies. Com isso, observamos que as mudanças na estrutura do habitat físico desses riachos incidiram especialmente na morfologia do canal, causado pelo aumento de áreas de pastagens e solo desprotegido nas microbacias. A análise Procruste demonstrou que todas as escalas analisadas apresentaram concordância com a abundância de espécies, reforçando a existência de uma hierarquia entre as escalas espaciais. Portanto, o estabelecimento de estratégias de restauração e mitigação dos efeitos de usos de terra devem abranger características da paisagem nas áreas de drenagem (bacia), a fim de conter o avanço dos efeitos dos usos de terra e assim prover condições ambientais favoráveis as assembleias aquáticas. ABSTRACT The most common anthropic change in the Amazon region is deforestation that causes damage to aquatic ecosystems, making them increasingly vulnerable to different disturbances. Consequently, this has negative effects on biodiversity through changes in the food chain and in the composition of aquatic species. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate which environmental variables and spatial scales have greater influence on the diversity of the fish assemblages of streams in the Eastern Amazon. The study area is located in the Capim River Basin, which has a gradient of degradation of vegetation cover resulting from anthropic activities. The local environmental variables were obtained in the drought period, between August and September of the years 2014 and 2015, in 20 stretches of streams. The landscape variables were obtained for the same period through images of the RapidEye satellite previously processed for later classification of land uses and coverages, being identified in four different spatial scales (50m buffer, 100 buffer, 200m buffer and total microbasin). With the results of the DistLm model, it can be inferred that the variables of proximity of total impact, depth of the stem, presence of exposed soil, substrate size,% of pasture and% of exposed soil were responsible for the differences in species abundance. The proportion of soil exposed in the total microbasin was negatively related to species richness. With this, we observed that the changes in the physical habitat structure of these streams had a special focus on the channel morphology caused by the increase of pasture areas and unprotected soil in the microcatchments. The Procruste analysis showed that all the scales analyzed were in agreement with the abundance of species, reinforcing the existence of a hierarchy between the spatial scales. Therefore, the establishment of strategies for restoration and mitigation of the effects of land use should cover landscape characteristics in the drainage areas (basin) in order to contain the advance of land use effects and thus provide favorable environmental conditions for aquatic assemblies Keywords: Landscape Ecology, Antropization, Watershed, Riparian Vegetation, Ichthyofauna. The composition, phylogeny, and classification of Characidae is currently uncertain, despite significant efforts based on analysis of morphological and molecular data. No consensus about the monophyly of this group or its position within the order Characiformes has been reached, challenged by the fact that many key studies to date have non-overlapping taxonomic representation and focus only on subsets of this diversity. Results: In the present study we propose a new definition of the family Characidae and a hypothesis of relationships for the Characiformes based on phylogenetic analysis of DNA sequences of two mitochondrial and three nuclear genes (4,680 base pairs). The sequences were obtained from 211 samples representing 166 genera distributed among all 18 recognized families in the order Characiformes, all 14 recognized subfamilies in the Characidae, plus 56 of the genera so far considered incertae sedis in the Characidae. The phylogeny obtained is robust, with most lineages significantly supported by posterior probabilities in Bayesian analysis, and high bootstrap values from maximum likelihood and parsimony analyses.

At the population level, reductions in complexity negatively affect densities of territorial species, as increased visual distance increases the territory size of individuals. Individual behaviour, including aggression, activity and boldness, is also altered by complexity, due to plastic behavioural responses to complexity, habitat selection by particular personality types, or both processes occurring simultaneously. This thesis explores the behavioural effects of habitat complexity in four chapters. The first chapter, a laboratory experiment based on the ideal free distribution, observes how convict cichlids (Amatitlania nigrofasciata) trade-off the higher foraging success obtainable in open habitats with the greater safety provided in complex habitats under overt predation threat. Dominants always preferred the complex habitat, forming ideal despotic distributions, while subordinates altered their habitat use in response to predation. The second chapter also employs the ideal free distribution to assess how convict cichlids within a dominance hierarchy trade-off between food monopolization and safety in the absence of a iv predator. Dominants again formed ideal despotic distributions in the complex habitat, while dominants with lower energetic states more strongly preferred the complex habitat.

Travasoss (1952) undertook the revision of the subgenus Jobertina of Pellegrin 1909 (Characidium with incomplete lateral line), he expressed some restrictions as he did not have the possibility to examine the type -species (= interruptum), the unique specimen being in Paris. Thanks to Professeur G u i b é of the Museum National d'Histoire Naturelle, I had this opportunity in the course of a new revision required by the discovery of a species from French Guiana. The purpose of this paper is then to give a redescription with figure of the type, the descrip- tion of the new species and to end with some taxonomical and phyloge- netic hypothesis. I. Redescription of Jobertina interruptum (Pell, 1909) Holotype : cf (?) 32.5 mm standard length, collected by M.Job er t in 1878 in Brazil. Paris Museum: N» 09—309. Exact locality unknown, as the „Serra d'Estrello" referred to by Pel- legrin seems to be a „fantasy name".

Tustin uring my presentation in January 2011, some people indicated that the Latin names I was so used to dealing with in my interest with D Rainbowfish, weren’t necessarily known to them. (“Now you are all familiar with Dr. Gerald Allen, right? … No? Okay, he is…”.) The fish that captivate their interest have different discovers, describers and honourees associated with them, and as they were not related to Rainbowfish, I had never really looked at those names. At the January 2011 meeting George had once again asked me to lend a hand with the auction and in doing so I ended up auctioning a bag of Apistogramma agassizii, named in honour of the next gentleman I would like to introduce you to. On May 28th, 1807 Jean Louis Rodolphe Agassiz was born in Môtier, Switzerland to the Reverend Louis B.R. Agassiz and his wife Rose. The eldest of four surviving children, Louis (as his family always referred to him, and as he would always be known) was seen as special – charming, exceedingly bright and with an inquisitive approach to the world around him. He was initially educated at home by his mother and father, but at the age of ten he left for formal schooling at the College of Bienne where he studied until he was fourteen. Then, deciding that he did not want to be a clerk for his uncle, he managed to obtain a placement at a college in Lausanne, Switzerland where he studied for another four years.
