Did you know that on the 29th of April 2012 the first World Peace Flame of Belgium was ignited at the Vroenhoven Bridge? The everlasting flame shines in a 2 metre high glass monument. It is a unique symbol of peace at this historic place. World Peace Flame Riemst is part of the international World Peace Flame network.

Fort Eben-Emael The “unconquerable” Fort of Eben-Emael became famous at the outbreak of World War II on May 10, 1940. A small team of German paratroopers was able to gain control of the artillery of the fort in less than 15 minutes. Visit Fort Eben-Emael and discover the incredible adventure of World War II's first moments, as well as learning about daily life in this giant fortress.

Milk goat farm

Half-way between the beautiful St. Hubert church of Mem- bruggen and the Molenbeemd nature reserve, there is the goat dairy farm of the Noelmans-Peters family. The patron will gladly show you around the farm that has 500 dairy goats. In the pro- cess, you will discover what "life is like" on a goat farm!

More than 50 years ago, grandfather Parthoens began con- structing the ring oven furnace. Bricks are still being baked in this oven, but now by the third generation. According to a strict press procedure a unique facade brick is made using a traditional production process for which time has stood still.

Mushroom nursery

Riemst is Purveyor to the Court for mushrooms. In the past they were grown in the marl caves because they have a perfect climate for growing mushrooms throughout the year. But there was a change in the early 1950s. The modernization of cultivation technology moved mushroom cultivation above ground.

De Smokkelmolen grain mill

The “Smuggler Mill” is a luxury B & B in a 500 year old water mill. From April to October the door of De Smokkelmolen is open to visitors on Sundays from 13.00 to 17.00 hrs. As a visitor, you can enjoy a demonstration of the grain mill. Schools and groups can visit the mill by appointment (if available).
