Macquarie University Alex Munt New Directions in Music Video: Vincent Moon and the 'Ascetic Aesthetic'
Munt New directions in music video Macquarie University Alex Munt New Directions in Music Video: Vincent Moon and the ‘ascetic aesthetic’ Abstract: This article takes the form of a case study on the work of French filmmaker and music video director Vincent Moon, and his ‘Takeaway Shows’ at the video podcast site La Blogothèque. This discussion examines the state, and status, of music video as a dynamic mode of convergent screen media today. It is argued that the recent shift of music video online represents a revival of music video—its form and aesthetics— together with a rejuvenation of music video scholarship. The emergence of the ‘ascetic aesthetic’ is offered as a new paradigm for music video far removed from that of the postmodern MTV model. In this context, new music video production intersects with notions of immediacy, authenticity and globalised film practice. Here, convergent music video is enabled by the network of Web 2.0 and facilitated by the trend towards amateur content, participatory media and Creative Commons licensing. The pedagogical implications of teaching new music video within screen media arts curricula is highlighted as a trajectory of this research. Biographical note: Alex Munt is a filmmaker and screen theorist. He is a Lecturer in the Department of Media, Music, Communication and Cultural Studies at Macquarie University. He recently completed a PhD on ‘Microbudget Digital Cinema’ and has published on topics that include digital filmmaking, screenwriting, music video, fashion and design media in Australian and UK media, journals and magazines. Keywords: Aesthetics – Music – Video – Vincent Moon 1 Broderick & Leahy (eds) TEXT Special Issue, ASPERA: New Screens, New Producers, New Learning, April 2011 Munt New directions in music video The focus of this article is the work of French filmmaker and music video director Mathieu Saura, more commonly known by his alias ‘Vincent Moon’. -

How to Re-Shine Depeche Mode on Album Covers
Sociology Study, December 2015, Vol. 5, No. 12, 920‐930 D doi: 10.17265/2159‐5526/2015.12.003 DAVID PUBLISHING Simple but Dominant: How to Reshine Depeche Mode on Album Covers After 80’s Cinla Sekera Abstract The aim of this paper is to analyze the album covers of English band Depeche Mode after 80’s according to the principles of graphic design. Established in 1980, the musical style of the band was turned from synth‐pop to new wave, from new wave to electronic, dance, and alternative‐rock in decades, but their message stayed as it was: A non‐hypocritical, humanist, and decent manner against what is wrong and in love sincerely. As a graphic design product, album covers are pre‐print design solutions of two dimensional surfaces. Graphic design, as a design field, has its own elements and principles. Visual elements and typography are the two components which should unite with the help of the six main principles which are: unity/harmony; balance; hierarchy; scale/proportion; dominance/emphasis; and similarity and contrast. All album covers of Depeche Mode after 80’s were designed in a simple but dominant way in order to form a unique style. On every album cover, there are huge color, size, tone, and location contrasts which concluded in simple domination; domination of a non‐hypocritical, humanist, and decent manner against what is wrong and in love sincerely. Keywords Graphic design, album cover, design principles, dominance, Depeche Mode Design is the formal and functional features graphic design are line, shape, color, value, texture, determination process, made before the production of and space. -

James S. Dwight III ABSTRACT Hyperpedagogy seeks to actualize social justice pedagogies and poststructuralist theorizing in digitally enhanced and online learning environments. Hyperpedagogy offers ways to incorporate transactional pedagogies into digital curricula so that learners throughout the United States’ pluralistic culture can participate in e-learning. Much of the hyperbole promoting e-learning is founded on social-efficiency pedagogies (i.e. preparing tomorrow’s workers for the information-based, new global economy) that tend to homogenize culturally pluralistic learners. The premium placed on a strict adherence to rigid learning systems inculcated within standards- -
Week 11, Semester 2, 2020 / First Printed 1929 Acknowledgement of Country
Honi Soit Week 11, Semester 2, 2020 / First printed 1929 Acknowledgement of Country Honi Soit is published on the stolen land of the Gadigal People of the Eora Nation. For over 230 years, First Nations people in this country have suffered from the destructive effects of invasion. The editors of this paper recognise that, as a team of settlers occupying the lands of the Bidjigal, Darug, Gadigal, Wangal and Wallumedegal people, we are beneficiaries of these reverberations that followed European settlement. As we strive throughout the year to offer a platform to the voices mainstream media ignores, we cannot meet this goal without providing a space for First Nations people to share their experiences and perspectives. A student paper which does not acknowledge historical and ongoing colonisation and the white supremacy embedded within Australian society can never adequately represent the students of the institution in which it operates. We seek to resist colonial violence and the racist power structures that serve to oppress those who are Indigenous to this land. Sovereignty was never ceded. Always was and always will be Aboriginal land. Contents Editorial As the age-old adage goes: time flies when answering my 5am calls.
