Bootle manager Joe Doran was left frustrated after watching his side Bootle Football Club - crash out the North West Counties League Cup, after a 1-0 home Founder members of the defeat to Abbey Hey. Doran who expressed his anger in side’s Football Alliance 1889, The Football League Div2* performance said: “Performances like that are nowhere near good 1892 & The Northwest enough for this football club.” Counties Football League 1982 Doran could only watch on in horror as his side started slowly against Awarded FA Charter the visitors from Manchester. And eventually fell behind on the 31st Standard Status in minute mark, after plenty of Abbey Hey pressure. Justin Pickering’s November 2011 free-kick was headed away by Jamie Hay. However, Hay’s header An associated committee landed straight into the path of John Hardy, whose shot hit team mate consisting of elected members: Matt Harrop's leg and rolled into the bottom corner of the net to give the visitors a well-deserved lead. Frank Doran Snr Despite going behind the Bucks only managed one shot on target in the Joe Benton MP first half and a two in the second half, something which concerned Doran. “I am very concerned about our lack of creativity. “Everything Dave Ruth, Geoff Frasier, Dave Miley Snr; Ben Roberts we've worked on in training since I took over has been focused on Bobby Capstick, Dave Miley jnr working as a team, then working all the way to the penalty area, to Ray Woodhouse, Joe Doran create good opportunities for our attacking players. Today we failed do this.” Joe Doran The bucks were lucky not go further behind in the second half, when Hey created two glorious chances to further their advantage. First Sam Bobby Capstick Jones did superbly down the right hand side, dispossessing then Joe Doran escaping Neil McQueen - before crossing for Harney, who had the goal at his mercy – but he somehow managed to fire over from 10 yards. Neil McQueen Harney again had a chance to wrap the game up for Hey. This time he Richie Boswarva Matt Kirby turned superbly inside the Bootle box, before unleashing a fierce shot, John Charnock which was superbly stopped by Bucks goalkeeper Dean Porter. Nick Browne Despite the bucks having plenty of possession in the closing stages, Darren Carr they looked well off their game and Hey managed to see the game out comfortably. Carla Yue After the game Doran gave an honest reaction to his teams defeat. Match Officials Dave Miley Jnr, MR M ASTLEY “Today has been a really frustrating day. I don’t think we were strong Connor O’Neill enough in the tackle and were second to too many balls all over the MR C BROWN pitch. “The side was a bit short and this isn't good. But I’ll take it on the [email protected] MR D EVANS chin and address it the way I need to, in order to move the team forward.”

26 3 *Original Club folded in 1893 The original Bootle FC were formed in 1880 and played at Hawthorne Road (next to the cricket ground). They were in fact Everton FC’s biggest rivals. Bootle were the first team to win the Liverpool Senior Cup competition and narrowly missed out on becoming a founder member of the football league, to Everton.

In 1889–90 Bootle became founder members of the new Football Alliance, which soon became the second division (now the championship!). That season was the most successful as we finished league runners-up, reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, where we lost to Blackburn Rovers (0-7). When the Alliance merged with the Football League in 1892, Bootle became founder members of the new Second Division. However, despite a respectable 8th place final position, the club dropped out after one season and seemingly disappeared due to financial problems. Bootle FC’s place in the football league was taken by Liverpool FC.

Football returned to Hawthorne Road when a new club, Bootle Athletic. was later formed with the new team initially playing in the Liverpool Leagues. In 1948 the club moved to nearby Bootle Stadium and were elected to the Lancashire Combination 2, which was won at the first attempt. However, Bootle struggled in the top-flight and after several tough seasons withdrew and folded during the 1953–54 campaign.

In 1953, the current club was formed as Langton and played in the local leagues. After a very successful spell in the Liverpool County Combination (which we won on numerous occasions) the club reverted back to it’s It’s better known identity of Bootle F.C. in 1973; and a year later joined the Lancashire Combination, which we won in 1976 and 1977. Bootle then joined the Second Division of the Cheshire County League, which was won in our first season, and we were promoted to the First Division. In 1982 the Cheshire County League was one of the leagues that merged to form the North West Counties League, which Bootle duly joined, becoming a member of the First Division. The club spent most of their time in the First Division until 2000 when we unfortunately dropped into the Second Division. However, despite finishing 6th in 2002, the club dropped into the Liverpool County Combination as Bucks Park was consigned to history. In 2006 the club, with a new ground, were elected back into Division 2 of the North West Counties League. In 2009 Bootle won promotion to the NWCL Premier Division and also won the Championship. In 2009/10, our first season back in the NWCFL Premier Division Bootle finished a NWCFL highest placing of 3rd. In 2010/11 finished 6th place. They equalled the 3rd place again in 2012.

2013 saw Bootle come so close to promotion, narrowly missing out with three games to go, and eventually finishing 3rd again. However they put that disappointment aside to win the Liverpool Senior Cup for the first time in 124 years. 25 Hello to all supporters players committee of both Bootle FC and our visitors Bacup and Rossendale Borough and welcome back to the Delta taxis stadium.

Saturday was a frustrating day. We were 2nd to too many balls all over the pitch and not strong enough in the tackle. MATCHDAY PRICES Performances like that are no where near good enough for this football club.

7 NEXT UP AT HOME BACUP FOR THE BUCKS & ROSSENDALE BOROUGH RUNCORN TOWN Bacup Borough Football Club was established in 1875. Their first match to take place at their current Brian Boys West View SATURDAY 8TH MARCH 2014 3PM KO Stadium was not until 1889 when one of the founder members of the Accrington Stanley played there in front of over 1,000 spectators.

Bacup’s proudest achievement was winning the Lancashire Combination Championship in the 1946/47 season, this along with finishing runners up EVERTON TBA after losing to Marine 2-1 in the Lancashire Combination Cup Final. 1972/73 season the club finished runners up in the League, losing out on SEMI-FINAL OF THE LCFA SENIOR CUP goal average despite scoring 101 goals. In 1974/75 they reached the Lancashire Junior Cup Final losing 1-0 against Lancaster City, this despite famous victories against Formby, Wigan Athletic, South Liverpool, and Morecambe. In the last ever Lancashire Combination Challenge Cup Final Bacup were beaten 1-3 by Caernarfon Town in a two-legged Final. GLOSSOP NORTH END In 1982 Bacup Borough became founder members of the North West Counties League, this following the amalgamation of the Cheshire League TUESDAY 8TH APRIL 2014 7.45PM KO & the Lancashire Combination. In the 1987/88 season Bacup had to apply for re-election following finishing bottom of the Second Division. In the 1988 /89 season under the Management of Gary Warburton the club finished Runners up in Division Two and also finished Runners Up in the Lamot Pils Trophy, they also the same season reached the Quarter Final of the League Cup and due to the Leagues re-organisation the club started the 1989 /90 season as a First Division Club. However, in the1994 /95 season Bacup Borough were relegated back to the Second Division & did struggle both on and off the field.

In September of the 1997/98 season with no points on the board and following a humiliating 0-10 defeat by Tetley Walker this prompted the Committee to part company with their then Manager. This then made way for the appointment of the former Doncaster Rovers Assistant Manager, Bury F.C Youth Team Coach, Accrington Stanley Director of Football, & Rossendale Utd & Glossop North End Manager Brent Peters to take over as Manager, a position he has held ever since. Brent’s early record of achievement saw the club finish the 1997/98 season in 14th position, climbing in 1998 /99 to 11th position before in 1999/00 they finished 5th in MATCH the league, the clubs highest league position in over ten years. In Season 2000/01 the club reached the Second Division Cup Final but lost 1-0 to Squires Gate. Brent’s greatest achievement came at the end of the 2002/03 season when he guided the CENTRE club to the Championship of the North West Counties League Division Two, the first major success for the club in 56 years. This brought Brent Three Manager of the Month Awards and The Manager of The Year Award. Season 2003/04, Bacup’s first season following the Second Division Championship the club finished 14th in Division One and did win the North West Counties League Challenge Cup at Southport’s Haig Avenue Ground by beating Newcastle Town 3-0.Other cup runs saw Borough as NWCFL Challenge Cup Quarter Finalists in 2004/05 and Lancashire FA Co-operative Trophy Quarter Finalists in 2007/08. They finished in 8th Position in the NWCFL Premier Division in the 2008/09 Season.

June 14th 2004 brought another land mark for the club when Bacup’s Secretary Frank Manning celebrated not only his 70th Birthday but also 50yrs in the game of which well over 40 years have been spent in administration at his beloved Bacup Borough F.C, This achievement was recognised by Frank being presented with a gold award on behalf of by Mr Jim Kenyon the Secretary of the Lancashire Football Association. This achievement brought Frank the position of Chairman of the club, a post he held until accepting the position of President of Bacup & Rossendale Borough FC at the re-branding on June 17th 2013.

It was a sad start to the 2011/2012 season with the sudden passing away of Kenneth Peters on the 15th June 2011 and he was also the club president and father of our manager. On the field of play further success was to come with more silverware, this following a comprehensive 5-0 victory over in the NWCFL Challenge Cup Final which was played at the Tameside Stadium Ashton in front of a big crowd, the team was captained by Davey Luker. The 2012/2013 season proved to be another difficult time at the club following the sad deaths of people dearly close to the club. Four came in the month of October 12 from which the biggest shock was 27 year old player Bryan Herbert. On the pitch the team once again did well by getting to yet another cup final and this time it was the Lancashire FA Cooperative Trophy Final played at the Reebok Stadium at Bolton. This Season Ken Head has Kindly sponsored both Daniel O’Connor & Jamie Hay. Despite playing a team from two leagues above, Bacup gave a very good account of themselves against team from the Evo Stick Premier Division, AFC Fylde ran out Frank McCann has kindly sponsored 2-0 winners. June 17th 2013 Bacup Borough officially adopted the title of Paul Byrne & Dean Porter If you would like Rossendale; this came about following the sad demise of Rossendale United FC, to find out what sponsorship is available please see our pdf Brochure on our website: thus leaving Bacup Borough as the Rossendale Valley’s most senior football club. www.bootlefc.co.uk They were now the sole flag bearers of the Rossendale Valley and, for the commercial side, it made sense to add ‘Rossendale’ to the club’s name making the Alternatively, please e-mail 20 club Bacup & Rossendale Borough FC. They returned bitterly disappointed that they never took home BOOTLE 18s REACH COUNTY CUP FINAL all 3 points after a blistering opening 30 minutes of almost total domination. Another great performance from the lads on saturday on a pitch which should be growing potatoes!! to reach the county cup final with a Against a strong home side boasting 8 First Team Squad Players, Bootle fantastic finish from jake preston. seized the initiative from the outset. Starting at a really high tempo they forced their opponents onto the back foot. Shaken by Bootle's determination to win the The boys had to dig in for this game as we only had the 12 players ball high into the Colne half, the home side were forced into a number of early again, for luke, jamie and matty had been called up to play for the errors. reserves which meant we had just enough for the 3rd game running. The first chance fell to the Bucks inside the opening 10 minutes - Jack We had to play 3 at back due to a lack of defenders where lewis kirby McDowell made an intelligent run in between the Centre Half and Full Back and took a great through ball in his stride only to fire wide of the target. 5 minutes give one of the best performances we have seen all season as a later slick link up play between Atkinson and McCabe saw the Bucks makeshift leftback, the quality of our play was again to much for the impressive young left back run clear of the Colne back line only to suffer opposition as we dominated the middle of the park with danny locke "shock" in the home area and fire wastefully high and wide. making a comeback and macca and jake running their back four into the ground. A few minutes later McDowell again found himself clear of the home defence. His shot was saved by the keeper and the rebound fell to Grant Pruden whose well done boys lets keep it going in the league now and hopefully we fierce effort rattled the bar and went over. will get back to full strength for a push for the title. Within minutes Bootle fashioned another 1 on 1 chance with the Colne Keeper. This time John Cheetham found himself bearing down on goal but his well placed shot was well saved again.

Surely a Goal would come for the Buck's - the opening 30 minutes was the best Manager Richie Boswarva had seen all season. However, as has been the case too often this campaign, they fell behind to a poor goal after dominating. A scramble in the Bootle box led to a mis-hit shot going in off the unfortunate Atkinson for a sloppy own goal.

It wasn't long however before they restored parity. A wonderful cross field ball by Smart was met on the volley at the back post by Pruden who expertly steered the ball home - 1-1.

The second half was less of a spectacle but Bootle showed resilience and character to withstand Colne. Indeed the best chances still fell to Bootle - Cheetham clean through shot early straight at the keeper and Pruden saw a goalbound effort strike an unwitting Colne defender in the chest amid appeals for a penalty.

1010 19 An impressive display from a young Bucks side with an average age of 18 that ended in frustration at not taking all 3 points.

This was the only downside from a good nights work, except the squad having to put up with Grant Pruden'S incessant garbage all the way home! Worth it I suppose if he keeps performing like this….! South Liverpool vs Merseyrail Bootle was dependent upon a 10am Pitch Inspection and sadly the ground was not playable.

Once again Merseyrail Bootle Ladies game has been postponed due to an unplayable pitch. The weather had been mainly dry last week but it was not enough time for the South Liverpool pitch to fully recover.

Hopefully it will continue to stay dry this week to allow MBLFC next game to go ahead.
