Mar 05, John Yelverton rated it really liked it. This isn't terrible and you get some answers but this is definitely for completionists only , at this point. And where Flashpoint: The World of Flashpoint featuring Batman gets it right, it's more of a swing and a miss here. To ask other readers questions about Flashpoint , please sign up. If there is one thing you have to understand about this comic, it's that it is a "What if scenario". Abin Sur does what he can to serve the people of Earth especially against orders from the Lantern Guardians. These stories are progressively more and more half assed and derivative. I love the way the story takes twists and portrays Superman and his origin differently. What happened to all the other speedsters? Turns out Iris was also a native of that time period. And anyone can die. The Superman story features Lt. It's kind of fun that they did an alternate universe like fanfiction, but I don't like the logic behind the catalyst for the changes. I've been meaning to read this for a very long time, but since I didn't get around to it when Flashpoint was the new big thing it kept getting put on the back burner. Error rating book. Orders are processed each weekday morning, so be sure to submit all orders quickly if you want us to combine them. These two characters are way past it, can't DC just let them die and be gone? Barry realizes that his power in tapping the speed force has it so that he cannot change the past, Eobard's power with the negative speed force is different in that change has happened. Tony Bedard Writer ,. Traci 13 is not a character I'm familiar with, but this story was very good. Graphic Novels Comics. Jan 17, Scott Rees rated it did not like it. You'll enjoy it more if you have a solid understanding of the Flashpoint storyline; otherwise you will feel the 3 stories here are a bit disconnected. Details if other :. The Outsider, by James Robinson, brings up the rear and this series, whilst superfluous to Flashpoint in general, is actually a lot of fun. It's a world on the brink of a cataclysmic war--but where are Earth's Greatest Heroes to stop it? Unfortunately, he wakes up to a world far worse than he could have known. This darkness is pronounced in every arc of this collection and helps it stand apart from both the standard DC Universe and even the rest of the Flashpoint comics. Bart travels to the past and meets Windrunner in the Old West, but when Windrunner reaches out to him, he's destroyed and Bart jumps forward. Mar 06, John Yelverton rated it liked it. Hyde, Godiva united with Etrigan in the resistance fight against New Themiscyra. The opening chapter has a villain rip a child out of existence, the next two have villains going around brutally murdering people, the next one centers around a gorilla obsessed with violence, and the closing arc is set in a dystopian future. This gives a wider view of what's going on in the Flashpoint world - Red Tornado and his android brothers and sisters protect Japan but want nothing to do with the rest of the world; Nat Irons in Brazil leads a group fighting the Nazis who have taken over the country; Guy Gardner has found Buddism, let go of his anger, and opened a bar in Australia; and Jason Todd is a priest in Gotham. Showing A bunch of antiheroes have become guerilla warriors for the cause of England, including Cantubury Cricket, who has a very checkered past. Project Superman was secondary. Flashpoint: The World of Flashpoint Featuring the Flash Writer Nov 27, Steve rated it liked it. There's plenty of the then-recent Brightest Day to his tale, given that the Guardians are hot for Abin to retrieve the White Lantern avatar. Jun 21, Michael rated it liked it. I'm definitely not sold on this Captain Cold that's what happens when you cast Wentworth Miller for the live action version though , and although the parts with the Rogues were interesting, it just wasn't the greatest. Learn how your comment data is processed. I liked all the stories, but they were pretty much all just mediocre. Green Arrow Industries Didn't really like that one, I guess it gives some input into the rest of the universe but Pornsak Pichetshote Writer ,. It's really kind of a scary what if about Superman's origins. The Guardians, being rather concerned with the state of the Universe also only send Abin Sur to Earth for a simple "find-and-retrieve" mission. Readers could completely skip this collection and find that their understanding of the Flashpoint Universe hasn't changed one bit. Graphic Novels Comics. The final story features an odd villainous character known as The Outside Whereas other volumes in the "World of Flashpoint" series have contained four separate stories, The World of Flashpoint featuring Wonder Woman consists of four much more closely related stories. He also arrives at a cemetery only to see Iris mourning the recently dead Wally West. Jeff Lemire Writer ,. Adam Schlagman. Overall a good read. But I was taken for a roller coaster ride. The Superman story features Lt. Flashpoint: The World of Flashpoint Featuring the Flash Reviews Hawkgirl, Terra, Huntress, Vixen, etc. Ben Oliver and Cliff Richard have similar styles, which give this mini a good consistent visual, but they are also very good at facial expressions, which gives this mini the weight in needs when the main focus are the very human characters at its heart. According to some versions of her story she died in the Trojan War. Jul 12, Jeffrey rated it did not like it. In this TBP we are first introduced to the story of Reverse - Flash who is the greatest enemy of The Flash and the story really holds good. While Abin Sur is awesome, there is not enough of him in this trade paperback. The other stories were a waste of time. Error rating book. The problem is that Francis doesn't seem to appreciate this. It's really kind of a scary what if about Superman's origins. This volume also features four stories. Cold's a fascinating protagonist. Related Posts. Other editions. I enjoyed learning more of the Green lanterns, and the tantalising glimpse of what could be my next graphic novel indulgence With a miniseries dedicated to the horrific world that no longer exists. Mar 21, Cameron Purcell rated it really liked it. And anyone can die. He makes a tremendous sacrifice, but Traci also manages to save him. Flashpoint becomes an epic read. The only ongoing series to tie into Flashpoint, Booster Gold, fills the final third of the book. Loved the backstory on this superman, and how so many characters were woven in. It reads like a grade 7 student wrote it Adam Glass , containing some of the worst grammar imaginable. Related Articles. The effect of twisting characters' personalities and histories which is the whole point of Flashpoint is wasted if the reader doesn't know the characters well enough in the first place to appreciate the changes, so I don't know if the book was incredible for pre-existing Flash fans but it had no effect upon me. Traci 13 was not a character I was familiar with, but I ended up being really interested in those issues! If only the Authors could have stopped with Wonder Woman and Aqua man it would have been better and they could have released a separate TBP for Resistance and The Outsider where both had an important role to play in the whole Flashpoint Paradox. The Adventures of Supergirl 6. At the same time, the being who would be Superman is a small child - who is tortured, experimented upon, and abused. As well as other people close to her which lead to this version of Wonder Woman becoming a violent dictator but mostly because of the manipulation by her aunt Penthesilea.

  • Crossmedia Adaptation and the Development of Continuity in the Dc Animated Universe
“INFINITE EARTHS”: CROSSMEDIA ADAPTATION AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONTINUITY IN THE DC ANIMATED UNIVERSE Alex Nader A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2015 Committee: Jeff Brown, Advisor Becca Cragin © 2015 Alexander Nader All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Jeff Brown, Advisor This thesis examines the process of adapting comic book properties into other visual media. I focus on the DC Animated Universe, the popular adaptation of DC Comics characters and concepts into all-ages programming. This adapted universe started with Batman: The Animated Series and comprised several shows on multiple networks, all of which fit into a shared universe based on their comic book counterparts. The adaptation of these properties is heavily reliant to intertextuality across DC Comics media. The shared universe developed within the television medium acted as an early example of comic book media adapting the idea of shared universes, a process that has been replicated with extreme financial success by DC and Marvel (in various stages of fruition). I address the process of adapting DC Comics properties in television, dividing it into “strict” or “loose” adaptations, as well as derivative adaptations that add new material to the comic book canon. This process was initially slow, exploding after the first series (Batman: The Animated Series) changed networks and Saturday morning cartoons flourished, allowing for more opportunities for producers to create content. References, crossover episodes, and the later series Justice League Unlimited allowed producers to utilize this shared universe to develop otherwise impossible adaptations that often became lasting additions to DC Comics publishing.

  • Why No Wonder Woman?
Why No Wonder Woman? A REPORT ON THE HISTORY OF WONDER WOMAN AND A CALL TO ACTION!! Created for Wonder Woman Fans Everywhere Introduction by Jacki Zehner with Report Written by Laura Moore April 15th, 2013 Wonder Woman - p. 2 April 15th, 2013 AN INTRODUCTION AND FRAMING “The destiny of the world is determined less by battles that are lost and won than by the stories it loves and believes in” – Harold Goddard. I believe in the story of Wonder Woman. I always have. Not the literal baby being made from clay story, but the metaphorical one. I believe in a story where a woman is the hero and not the victim. I believe in a story where a woman is strong and not weak. Where a woman can fall in love with a man, but she doesnʼt need a man. Where a woman can stand on her own two feet. And above all else, I believe in a story where a woman has superpowers that she uses to help others, and yes, I believe that a woman can help save the world. “Wonder Woman was created as a distinctly feminist role model whose mission was to bring the Amazon ideals of love, peace, and sexual equality to ʻa world torn by the hatred of men.ʼ”1 While the story of Wonder Woman began back in 1941, I did not discover her until much later, and my introduction didnʼt come at the hands of comic books. Instead, when I was a little girl I used to watch the television show starring Lynda Carter, and the animated television series, Super Friends.

  • What Superman Teaches Us About the American Dream and Changing Values Within the United States
TRUTH, JUSTICE, AND THE AMERICAN WAY: WHAT SUPERMAN TEACHES US ABOUT THE AMERICAN DREAM AND CHANGING VALUES WITHIN THE UNITED STATES Lauren N. Karp AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Lauren N. Karp for the degree of Master of Arts in English presented on June 4, 2009 . Title: Truth, Justice, and the American Way: What Superman Teaches Us about the American Dream and Changing Values within the United States Abstract approved: ____________________________________________________________________ Evan Gottlieb This thesis is a study of the changes in the cultural definition of the American Dream. I have chosen to use Superman comics, from 1938 to the present day, as litmus tests for how we have societally interpreted our ideas of “success” and the “American Way.” This work is primarily a study in culture and social changes, using close reading of comic books to supply evidence. I argue that we can find three distinct periods where the definition of the American Dream has changed significantly—and the identity of Superman with it. I also hypothesize that we are entering an era with an entirely new definition of the American Dream, and thus Superman must similarly change to meet this new definition. JUSTICE LEAGUE: ORIGINS Written by Chad Handley [email protected] EXT. PARK - DAY An idyllic American park from our Rockwellian past. A pick- up truck pulls up onto a nearby gravel lot. INT. PICK-UP TRUCK - DAY MARTHA KENT (30s) stalls the engine. Her young son, CLARK, (7) apprehensively peeks out at the park from just under the window. MARTHA KENT Go on, Clark. Scoot. CLARK Can’t I go with you? MARTHA KENT No, you may not. A woman is entitled to shop on her own once in a blue moon. And it’s high time you made friends your own age. Clark watches a group of bigger, rowdier boys play baseball on a diamond in the park. CLARK They won’t like me. MARTHA KENT How will you know unless you try? Go on. I’ll be back before you know it. EXT. PARK - BASEBALL DIAMOND - MOMENTS LATER Clark watches the other kids play from afar - too scared to approach. He is about to give up when a fly ball plops on the ground at his feet. He stares at it, unsure of what to do. BIG KID 1 (yelling) Yo, kid. Little help? Clark picks up the ball. Unsure he can throw the distance, he hesitates. Rolls the ball over instead. It stops halfway to Big Kid 1, who rolls his eyes, runs over and picks it up. 2. BIG KID 1 (CONT’D) Nice throw. The other kids laugh at him. Humiliated, Clark puts his hands in his pockets and walks away. Big Kid 2 advances on Big Kid 1; takes the ball away from him.
